Our Principal’s Message
Dear Parents,
It is with great pride and appreciation that I thank our
wonderful Fox Trail volunteers for the support they give
to our students and staff. Once again, we received the
Golden School Award for volunteer hours exceeding twice
the amount of our student population. With over 1250
students, that’s quite an amazing number of hours!
The success of any school depends on having great
students, supportive parents and community members,
and a committed staff all working together to increase
student achievement. With that in mind, special thanks
go out to Mrs. Stewart for another wonderful Spring
Concert and to our partners at Winn Dixie for hosting yet
another fun-filled Math Night. These are great examples
of students, teachers, parents and community members
working together. We value the care and assistance
afforded to our school by our volunteers and partners
and would like to show our gratitude at our
Volunteer/Partner Appreciation Breakfast on May 11th.
Our theme, “Learning Takes You Places”, could not be
more appropriate for the journey we took this year. As I
write this article, the FSA for our 3rd-5th grade students
has been completed. The students have reported
entering the tests with a high level of self-assurance and
the teachers are confident that the students were
prepared and ready for the challenge.
Please let our journey continue throughout the summer.
There are many suggestions and opportunities listed in
this newsletter for summer learning.
There is a
phenomena known as a “summer slide”. Let’s continue
to keep our skills sharp and learn every day. Please check
out the free websites listed and begin your Reading
Across Broward reading lists. Summer usually means
vacation time and possibly traveling is on the agenda.
I’d like to share an excerpt from a professional
reading journal. It takes place at the beginning of
the school year while the children are sharing
their summer vacation experiences.
“Natalie was chosen and stood with pride in the
center of the circle. She spoke with confidence and
told of being alone on an island, being chased by
dragons and giants, and living in an enchanted castle,
she bragged about flying around the world and
diving into the ocean deep. She led us through her
adventures as a super-hero and an astronaut.
The room was so quiet… I broke the silence by asking
where she had gone exactly to experience such
incredible adventures. She replied, ‘The Library!’”
Have a wonderful summer!

Morning Breakfast
Breakfast is available to all students, free of charge.
Because of the large number of students having breakfast,
parents are not invited to eat with their child.
Our “Lost and Found” inventory has been growing! Writing
the child’s name on the inside tag assists in identifying the
owner and helps prevent the loss of the item. Please check
our lost and found as any leftover items will be donated at
the end of the school year.
Virtual School
Hello Parents,
My name is Satoko Fisher, and I teach Japanese to
elementary students via videoconferencing in
Broward County.
Mrs. Burgess is generous
enough to let me use one of the portables so I have
been broadcasting my "Tomodachi" sessions from
Fox Trail this school year. Many Fox Trail
teachers have joined my program, and their
students have been learning Japanese language
and culture. The children even greet me in
Japanese in the hallway! I am organizing a
Japanese drumming concert assembly on May 20,
2015. Some of our students will be singing a
Japanese song and the South Florida Taiko Dojo
will be performing. Thank you to our wonderful
PTSA - for sponsoring the assembly. I am sure
our students will enjoy this great opportunity!

MATERIALS ADOPTION TIMELINE
Due to the changes in State Statute, the
Instructional Materials Adoption Process now
requires opportunities for parents to preview
the recommended instructional materials,
provide comments to the School Board, and
formally object to the adoption through
petition after the material had been adopted
by the School Board. The adoption of material
does not become final until a hearing is held
to hear all petitions, if necessary.
