LAST CALL!
Looking for an end of day experience at the Zoo? Here are some insider
tips for enjoying the Zoo near closing time, at 5 p.m.
1
Predator Ridge
Our social African carnivores, the lions, spotted hyenas
and African painted dogs, may be visible. See if you can
spot them from either outside, or inside Pahali ya Simba,
where you can also see African reptiles. Don’t miss the
Grevy’s zebras nearby while you’re there, too!
2
Feline buildings
The cats residing here are always around. Watch to see
where they choose to settle in for the night. Are they
inside or outside? Keep in mind that these animals will
have indoor and outdoor access so you may have to
look around a bit!
3
Northern Shores
Our home for polar bears and pinnipeds provides one of
the best views of our sea lions, when they start snuggling
up on a rock for the evening. Tropical Discovery, home to
fish, reptiles and amphibians, is also open until the Zoo
closes.
4
Giraffes
Our awe-inspiring, reticulated giraffes are always visible,
whether outside their yard or in their indoor building.
5
Hooved animals
While many of our hooved animals will head inside in
late afternoon, some prefer to stay outside. Along the
south end of Denver Zoo, you’ll find dromedary camels,
Przewalski's horses and Bactrian camels. The two latter
species are native to the Asian highland areas, including
Mongolia, where one of Denver Zoo’s larger
conservation field projects takes place.
6
Toyota Elephant Passage
Denver Zoo’s home for endangered Asian animals should
have plenty of animals to see towards the end of the day.
Look for Asian small-clawed otters, an Indian hornbill and
fishing cats in our El Pomar Foundation Village Hall. Then
see whether an Asian elephant or a greater one-horned
rhino is enjoying the Elephant Parlor inside the Clayton F.
Freiheit Elephant House. If it is a warm evening, you
should spot even more of these animals in the multiple,
linked yards of this exhibit.
7
Bird World
This building features species ranging from storks to
starlings to toucans to turacos!
8
Pachyderms
Hippos may be outside or inside taking a nice evening
soak!
9
Primate Panorama
While many of our other primates may choose to be
inside as the sun goes down, you may find other species.
You can find orangutans and gorillas in our Great Apes
building and monkeys such as lemurs, marmosets and
tamarins in our Emerald Forest building. Also, look for red
river hogs in nearby yards.
10
Bear and Sheep Mountain
These exhibits are some of the oldest in the Zoo. In fact,
Bear Mountain is part of the Colorado Historic Registry.
Our grizzly bears, Asiatic black bears, Dall’s sheep and
bighorn sheep are usually easy to spot.
Thanks for visiting today! Hopefully you spotted a few other night owls on your journey.
If you did, share your experience on Denver Zoo’s Facebook page!
