DOMTAR’S MARLBORO MILL
Domtar’s Bennettsville Mill, commonly referred to as the Marlboro
Mill in honor of the county in which it is located, is one of North
America’s newest pulp and paper manufacturing facilities. Named
for 19th century Governor Thomas Bennett, Bennettsville rose to
prominence because of its agricultural riches. The Pee Dee River,
which early on made Bennettsville one of South Carolina’s most
prosperous communities, also provided the perfect location for fine
paper manufacturing.
The Basics:
• The Domtar Marlboro Mill is located in Bennettsville, SC and is one of
Domtar’s 13 pulp and paper mills in North America.
• The mill has one pulp line and one paper machine, with an annual paper
production capacity of 263,000 tons and an annual pulp production
capacity of 317,000 tons.
• The Marlboro Mill produces specialty papers and cellulose fibers.

In 2013, the Marlboro Mill contributed $23,000 in grassroots
giving to the local community.

In 2010, Domtar invested $40 million to equip the Marlboro
Mill with a 50 megawatt bio-fueled steam turbine generator,
making the mill more energy efficient. The turbine generator
has the capacity to power renewable energy to roughly 31,000
South Carolina homes.

Water conservation was designed into Marlboro from the
beginning. Today, the mill ranks in the top quarter of all North
American mills for water use.
