At A Glance: DOMTAR’S MARLBORO MILL Domtar’s Bennettsville Mill, commonly referred to as the Marlboro Mill in honor of the county in which it is located, is one of North America’s newest pulp and paper manufacturing facilities. Named for 19th century Governor Thomas Bennett, Bennettsville rose to prominence because of its agricultural riches. The Pee Dee River, which early on made Bennettsville one of South Carolina’s most prosperous communities, also provided the perfect location for fine paper manufacturing. The turbine generator has the capacity to power renewable energy to roughly 31,000 South Carolina homes. • Water conservation was designed into Marlboro from the beginning. Today, the mill ranks in the top quarter of all North American mills for water use.
