First­Ever EPL Teen Minecraft Tournament!
Welcome to the Eastchester
Public Library's monthly e­newsletter, underwritten
by the Friends of the
Library
On Saturday, March 14th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.,
we will hold our first­ever Teen Minecraft
Tournament for Grades 6 and up at the library.
To be able to participate in the tournament, you
must have created your own Minecraft account, as well as bring your
own laptop. There will be multiple games to allow friends to share, if
need be. The game will be a "Hunger Games Mod," and there will be
prizes awarded for first, second, and third place!

New Young Adult Titles
All the Bright Places (Jennifer

With a library card from any of
Westchester County's 38 public libraries,
you can access an array of online
resources. Here are two new ones for
2015:
Flipster can be accessed by visiting the Westchester Library System
website and clicking on the "Research" tab. It offers full digital
editions of nine popular magazines: Car and Driver, Ebony,
Entertainment Weekly, Food Network Magazine, InStyle, Kiplinger's
Personal Finance, People en Español, Prevention, Rolling Stone,
Sports Illustrated and Time.
Lynda contains thousands of online courses and web tutorials. This
resource will help you explore new hobbies, learn new software
programs, land promotions or switch carriers. To access Lynda, visit
the Westchester Library System website and click on the "Learn" tab. Local Dental Hygenist to Present New Children's Book
Joanne Roos is a Registered Dental Hygenist who works at Main Street
Pediatric Dentistry in Tuckahoe. For several years, she has given
storytime programs at local libraries (including ours). Now, she is a

Joanne's picture book, Who Visits Me from A to Z, talks about the
importance of dental health for children. The book is illustrated by
Maggie O'Keefe, a senior at Scarsdale High School. The event will
include a book signing, giveaways, raffles, and much more! All are
welcome.

The event will take place on Thursday, March 12th at 1:30 p.m. This
event replaces the regular Preschool Storytime that day, but is open
to everyone whether they are enrolled in Storytime or not. Musical Memories
On Sunday, March 15th at 1:30 p.m., cabaret singer Diana Templeton will present her
program "Everything Old is New Again." Join us as
Diana takes us on a stroll down memory lane with her
repertoire of classic American songs. Diana has nine albums to her name, and has been
recognized by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs with
their annual award for Best Female Vocalist.

March Reading Buddies Book Clubs
On Monday, March 30th at 7 p.m., 4th & 5th
Grade Reading Buddies will discuss Christopher
Paul Curtis' Newbery Honor­winning work of historical fiction, The
Watsons Go to Birmingham. We will also discuss Kenneth Oppel's The
Boundless, as the February book club was cancelled by snow.
Online pre­registration, recommended for book clubs, is now open.
Refreshments will be served. Copies of the books are available at the
Circulation Desk.
Giddy About Geography and Mad About Math
On Thursday, March 5th at 4 p.m., we will hold our Giddy About
Geography program for Grades K ­ 1. What would happen if all of the
states of the U.S. decided to switch places? Join us for a reading of
Laurie Keller's The Scrambled States of America, followed by a trivia
game about geography.
On Thursday, March 23rd at 6 p.m., we will hold our Mad About
Math program for Grades K ­ 1. Do you know how many thousands it
takes to make a million We will find out by reading How Much Is a
Million? This will be followed by a craft activity.

Free Tax Assistance at the Library
It's everyone's favorite time of year.....tax
season! Every Tuesday, now through April
14th, volunteers from AARP Foundation Tax­
Aide will be at the Eastchester Public Library
from 9 ­ 2. These volunteers are experienced
with tax preparation, and their services are
available free of charge and without
appointment. Another tax­related reminder: the IRS and the New York State
Department of Revenue continue to limit the number of paper forms
they make available to libraries. All of the needed forms can be printed
out online, at http://www.tax.ny.gov/Forms for New York State and
www.irs.gov/Forms­&­Pubs for federal. If we do not have the forms
that you need at the library, we would be happy to print any tax form
for you at the Reference Desk.

On Monday, April 6th at 6
p.m., a general interest meeting
(for participants and parents)
for our 2015 Children's and
Teens Battle of the Books
teams will be held. The
program is open to those who
are currently in Grades 3 ­ 8,
and will be in Grades 4 ­ 9 in
the 2015 ­ 16 school year.

book selections for this year,
will appear in the April
newsletter.
Robert the Guitar Guy
Robert the Guitar Guy will be
returning to the library on
Saturday, March 14th at 11
a.m., for an all­ages children's
music concert.
Open to all, no pre­registration
required.
Teen and Tween Programs in March
On Monday, March 9th at 7 p.m., there
will be a meeting of the Library Teen
Group for Grades 6 and up. This group
works with the Young Adult Librarian to
plan programs and suggest books, and is
open to new members.
On Tuesday, March 31st at 4 p.m., the
Teen/Tween Book Club for Grades 6 to
8 will discuss I Am Number Four by
Pittacus Lore. John Smith of Paradise,
Ohio is "Number Four" of nine aliens
who left their home planet of Lorien
when it was attacked by the evil
Mogadorian. After "Number Three" is
killed in Kenya, John knows that he is
next.
Pre­registration is suggested for these programs. Click here to register

March Mystery Club for Adults
On Wednesday, March 4th at 2:30 p.m. the EPL Mystery Club will
open with a visit from independent author Mel Parrish. This will be

Cop.

The protagonist, Carter Ross, is a reporter at the
fictitious Newark Eagle­Examiner. He is asked
to investigate the death of a Newark police
officer, only to be told to stop investigating
because the officer committed suicide. The book
unfolds as Carter realizes there is more to the
story.
Open to all, no pre­registration required. New members are always
welcome.
Two Children's Programs with Sukey Molloy
On Thursday, March 19th at 10:30 a.m., Sukey
Molloy will return to the library for
her Sukey's Circle program. For ages 6 ­ 36
months, Sukey's Circle is an interactive play,
move and sing session. On Wednesday, April 1st at 10:30 a.m., Sukey
will offer her Sukey and Friends Concert for
all ages.
Both programs are open to all. However, pre­registration is required for
Sukey's Circle, and begins on Thursday, March 12th at 9 a.m. Pre­
registration is not required for the Sukey and Friends Concert.
