Are you ready for better
than normal hearing?
With Siemens most advanced

can. In fact, the technology in
Siemens hearing aids is clinically
proven to provide up to 25% better
speech understanding than people
with normal hearing.*
The hearing aids work automatically.

the background noise can sometimes prevent you from hearing the conversation. Siemens

Take the family to a car show

PENQUIS REGION - There is a spring ritual which comes along
with the bursting out of the green leaves and early flowers. The event
is a sure sign that central Maine citizens really believe that spring
weather is again opening the door to another summer of “Cruising in
the ride of their choice”.
One of central Maine’s best kept secrets is the number of Antiques, Classics, Hot Rods and Cars of the 60’s & 70’s that reside in
barns and garages all winter long just waiting to see the clean, dry
pavement, this , in no way leaves out the many other 4 Wheel Drive
Trucks, Jeeps and Motorcycles which all seek the days of spring and
summer.
As with the beginning of spring in central Maine, a sport called
“Cruising” takes place. Getting together with a group and traveling
to your favorite restaurant, or ice cream shop. On any nice day in
Maine you’ll see a large variety of vehicles traveling the roads, or
parked at someone’s garage, most always being enjoyed by a big smile
and a friendly wave of those who waited for Jack Frost to disappear.
The exciting part of classic cars is that everyone can enjoy them
whether you choose to own one or not.
Many organizations; car clubs, schools, and groups have taken on
the project of Car Shows and Cruise-Ins, using them as fund raisers
the benefit their charities.
We are very fortunate in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties not
only do we have the beauty of scenic roads and great places to eat, but
the opportunity to attend a Car Show or Cruise-in comes about every
weekend and even during the week in the Summer months
The small towns of Dover, Dexter and Abbott, as well as others in
central Maine, offer great places to enjoy your favorite ice cream cone
and treats.
June 28 the Dover ball field will become the 5th Annual Classic
Car Cruise-In, always a great time; offering DJ Music of the 50’s, 60’s
&70’s, food and awards.
It is only a short time and the 4th of July and town celebrations
bring parades in communities throughout central Maine. Parades
that allow Classic Cars and Trucks to be seen and enjoyed by those
who line the parade routes.
Organizations like the Dexter Historical Society also are offering
an evening out to enjoy the Museum and Cars of yesterday at their
2nd Annual Cruise-In in the Dexter Muni Parking Lot next the their
Museum. Food, DJ, Prizes & Fun. it is a good chance to get Dad out
of the house to an event everyone will enjoy! The show will be July 11,
5 - 9 p.m. See the cars, enjoy the Museum, eat a great hot dog.
There are many events available that your family and friends will
turn a Saturday night of TV into a great evening out! The family will
find something for everyone at a local car show or parade. Grammie
and Gramp remember the days when they drove those old cars on a
daily basis. Mom and Dad wishing they’d just kept that car or truck
of their youth. The kids, what a thrill just to see the past drive by, to
sit in an old car or hear the sound of today’s powerful motors traveling
down the roads.
The old days wouldn’t be the same in Central Maine without the
music!
The Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, on August 8, 2015 are going to open
wide their Cruise-In with not only DJ music, Food and Fun, but with
the special performance from well known tribute artist, “LP Rock”,
a wonderful Elvis rendition performer. This promises to be an evening of real excitement for the young and older alike. Bring your own
chair, it is going to be great!!
Their show will be August 8 in Dexter at the Muni Parking Lot.
The Cruise-In begins at 4:30 - 8 p.m. The Elvis type show with “LP
Rock” begins at 6:45 p.m.
This is one Saturday Night you won’t soon forget. There is no way
the family can stay home these nights. Cars, Food, Music and Fun, it
is time to get out and enjoy Central Maine in your favorite ride.
Take the family to a car show and you may just find a project in
your garage next winter waiting just to come out in the spring yourself.

*Two clinical studies have shown that binax provides better than normal hearing in certain demanding environments (University of Northern Colorado,
2014; Oldenburg Hörzentrum, 2013): Speech Reception Thresholds (SRT) in cocktail-party situations improved up to 2.9 dB for wearers with mild to
moderate hearing loss using Carat binax or Pure binax hearing aids with narrow directionality, compared to people with normal hearing. The new
wireless, two microphone Motion and Insio binax models have the same directional performance as the Pure and Carat binax.

Visioning Group for
Sangerville’s Future meeting results
SANGERVILLE - The second
meeting of the Visioning Group
for Sangerville’s Future, formerly
the Sangerville Steering Committee, was held on June 3 in the
Town Hall Community Room.
With Chris Buchanan acting as
facilitator, the Group reviewed a
number of issues including examining the results of the community survey that was sent to all
town residents. The survey asked
resident to rank a variety of town
assets as essential, important or
nice to have. The strongest responses favored air and water
quality, lakes, open space, rural
character, and water aquifers.
Hoping for additional responses
to ensure that the preliminary
results were accurate, the Group
will be posting the survey around
town and asking voters at the
SAD #4 school election in Sanger-

ville to complete the survey.
The next step after completing
a review of the survey results will
be to draft a White Paper of the
Trends and Implications for how
to protect, preserve and strengthen the values that Sangerville
residents treasure most about the
Town. Recognizing that Sangerville is bordered by three service
center towns, there is no need to
duplicate the facilities, services
and offerings of Guilford, DoverFoxcroft and Dexter. Sangerville
can provide excellent residential
opportunities for families and
retirees and farming land for agriculture. Protecting these assets
for future generations has implications for present actions that
might be taken, such as ordinances on noise, land use, hazardous
materials handling, fireworks,
off-street apartment parking and
how best to provide recreational
opportunities for all ages.
The next meeting of the Group
will be on Tuesday, June 30 in the
Town Hall Community Room at
6:30 p.m.
All meetings of the group are
open to everyone as there is no
regular or appointed membership. Residents are urged to attend one, many, any or all meetings to informally discuss the
future direction for the growth
and development of the town to
guide the Board of Selectmen
over the next five years.

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Helping Hands with Heart (HHH) is hosting a two-hour learning session on
June 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at Mayo Regional Hospital in the Sebec Room. This learning session will be
with Scott Cates, Office of Family Independence (OFI) and is designed to provide an opportunity for local
residents to learn more about the electronic application for public benefits through Maine Department of
Health and Human Services (Maine DHHS).
HHH is committed to ensuring that access for children, families and seniors who are eligible for public
supports to protect against food insecurity, ensure access to healthcare, promote education and employment and the variety of supports (transportation, childcare, etc.) is available throughout our county and
service area. They are working to reduce the barriers to these benefits and believe that, with these
supports, the overall health and wellbeing of neighbors and friends -and consequently, the county - will
improve.
Piscataquis County is currently the only county in Maine with an “out-stationed” kiosk, placed at Penquis in Dover-Foxcroft, which permits residents to electronically apply for benefits and supports “on line.”
They are finding that this kiosk, which is an ATM-like stand with computer and scanning abilities, has
been minimally used by area residents. While they anticipate that one reason for this may be a lack of
transportation to the Penquis office, the use of the electronic application is often a barrier for people in
this region, as is the complex and sometimes confusing process.
Scott Cates will review the application process and form with us, explain what documentation is needed
on the part of the applicant, and answer questions. They are initiating a “Piscataquis Partners” effort to
provide volunteers throughout our region who are willing and available to help friends and neighbors in
accessing appropriate and needed benefits.
The goal for this session is to explain the process simply and help to create a greater support system
for families and seniors in the region. Volunteers may help area residents assemble the documentation
needed to support an initial or renewal application, or they may accompany the resident to the Penquis
office to use the kiosk or help a Piscataquis county resident access the online application in their own
community – perhaps at their local library, or other location with Internet access.
Anyone can visit the site below and register for this session. Light refreshments will be provided and
there is no cost for this session. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/061915HHH

PITTSFIELD – The Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge will host its annual Flag Day ceremony at Veterans’
Park in downtown Pittsfield on Sunday, June 14 at 1 p.m.
The fraternal order will be assisted by members of the Burns W. Knowlton American Legion Post.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks officially designated June 14 as Flag Day in 1907 and
persuaded President Woodrow Wilson to recognize the observance nationally starting in 1916.
In 1949, President Harry S. Truman, a member of the Elks, signed an Act of Congress that proclaimed
the flag of the United States would be displayed on all government buildings on June 14 and asked that
the American people join in the observance of the flag’s anniversary.

What are “self-administered drugs”
and “observation level of care”
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Since “Mayo Regional Hospital values education in the community,” a spokesperson shared this week, “here are
some helpful hints on two healthcare topics related to Medicare. We
want to ensure that you understand your healthcare bill and make
the best of your healthcare dollars, she explained.
Did you know there are two levels of care in a hospital setting
where you may stay overnight in a bed? Sometimes people come to
the hospital and tests need to be run in order to find the reason or
diagnosis of why a patient is not feeling well. Your doctor may order
you to stay overnight under an “observation” level of care. “Observation” falls under the outpatient or “Part B” benefit of Medicare. A 20%
co-insurance is due from the patient after Medicare pays your bill to
the hospital.
Another level of care, called an”
inpatient admission,” is ordered
when the doctor knows your diagnosis and they know you need
to be cared for in the hospital for
more than 48 hours. This benefit
falls under Medicare A. Patient’s
will be billed a deductible for this
level of care. The 2015 Medicare
A deductible is $1260.00.
Did you know Medicare calls
“over the counter” medication or
medicine prescribed by your doctor that you take at home as a
“self-administered drug.” Medicines included in this list might
be inhalers for COPD, insulin,
Tylenol, Milk of Magnesia, and
antacids. Medicare B, or outpatient Medicare, does not pay the
cost of these drugs. Only Medicare D may cover the cost of these
medicines. You may receive medications like this at the hospital if
you are in the emergency room,
an observation stay, outpatient
surgery, or infusion. The hospital
will bill Medicare for these services and the charges for the medicine will not covered by Medicare.
The bill will go to the patient as
a balance due. You may see a bill
from Mayo Regional Hospital, or
any other hospital, for these medications come to you in the mail.
You can always call the phone
number on your statement to ask
about the details of your bill. It
is important for you to provide
an updated list of medication
you take to your doctor and to
the hospital so they can best help
coordinate your care as well as
keep healthcare costs low for all
patients.
If you have any healthcare billing or coverage questions, please
call your insurance company or:
Medicare 1-800-Medicare or TTY
1-877-486-2048; or a Mayo Regional Patient Financial Counselor at 564-1615.

Navy Office of Community Outreach
SANGERVILLE – A 2000 Piscataquis Community High School
graduate and Sangerville native
is serving on USS Donald Cook,
living and working at a Navy
base in Rota, Spain.
Chief Petty Officer Joshua
Haskell is a machinery repairman on the Rota, Spain-based
ship. Rota is located near the
Strait of Gibraltar, the entryway
into the Mediterranean Sea from
the Atlantic Ocean.
“I am the one that gets the call
that some important machinery needs to be repaired,” said
Haskell. “It is extremely rewarding to have the responsibility to
fix machines that keep the ship
going.”
USS Donald Cook is 505 feet
long, almost the length of two
football fields. The ship is 66 feet
wide and weighs more than 9,200
tons. Twin gas-turbine engines
can push the ship through the
water at more than 30 mph.
USS Donald Cook is an Arleigh
Burke-class guided-missile destroyer that has been outfitted
with an Aegis ballistic missile defense capability that enables the
ship to conduct long-range surveillance, tracking, and engagement of short and medium-range
ballistic missiles. Only 15 other
destroyers in the Navy have been
outfitted with the Aegis BMD
system.
As a sailor with numerous responsibilities, Haskell said he is
learning about Haskell as a leader, sailor and a person.

sioned in 1998 and is named in
honor of U.S. Marine Corps officer and Medal of Honor recipient
Donald Cook; a Vietnam prisoner
of war who died in captivity.
With approximately 30 officers
and 250 enlisted comprising the
ship’s company, jobs are highly
varied which keeps the ship mission ready — this includes everything from washing dishes
and preparing meals to handling
weaponry and maintaining the
propulsion system.
Haskell also said he is proud of
the work he is doing as part of the
Cook’s crew, protecting America
on the world’s oceans.
“I like the traveling,” Haskell
explained. “My best experience
has been to go from command to
command at so many places. I’ve
been to at least 20 different countries.”
Assigned to U.S. 6th Fleet, USS
Donald Cook sailors are on watch
throughout the European region
and are important assets supporting President Obama’s European Phased Adaptive Approach
to enhance the security of that
area of the world from ballistic
missile threats originating in the
Middle East.
In addition to USS Donald
Cook, two other BMD capable
ships are forwarded deployed in
Rota: USS Porter and USS Ross.
A fourth, USS Carney, will arrive
in the fall. Having four destroy-

ers based in Rota gives the U.S.
6th Fleet flexibility to send these
ships to a variety of locations for
a range of missions, while at the
same time providing a large umbrella of protection for European
allies.
“Our Navy presence has to be
where it matters and we have to
be there when it matters. I am so
proud and amazed by the knowledge Cook sailors display and
the work they do every day,” said
Cmdr. Charles E. Hampton, the
ship’s commanding officer. “Their
professionalism, motivation and
commitment to the Navy are
genuinely inspiring.”
In addition to missile defense,
the forward-deployed, BMD-capable destroyers conduct a myriad of tasks that include the full
range of maritime security operations, bilateral and multilateral
training exercises, and NATO operations and deployments.
Destroyers are one of the most
versatile ships. Fast, maneuverable, and technically advanced,
they provide the required warfighting capabilities and operational flexibility to execute
multi-mission evolutions such as
surface warfare, anti-submarine
warfare and anti-air warfare.
USS Donald Cook can operate
independently or as part of carrier strike groups, surface action groups, amphibious ready
groups, and underway replenishment groups.
As a member of one of the U.S.
Navy’s most versatile combat
ships, Haskell and other USS
Donald Cook sailors know they
are part of a forward-deployed
naval forces team that is heavily
relied upon to help protect and
defend America on the world’s
oceans.
“It is rewarding to know that
you’re part of something that
could potentially keep everyone
else back in the U.S. safe,” said
Haskell. “We help defend the
U.S.”

TOWN OF HARMONY
NOTICE OF TAX-ACQUIRED PROPERTY SALE
The Select Board of the Town of Harmony is soliciting bids for
the sale of the municipality’s interest in a tax-acquired property.
Each bid must be in writing, including the bidder’s name, mailing
address, and phone number, and be in a sealed envelope marked
Tax-Acquired Property and addressed to the Town of Harmony,
P.O. Box 14, Harmony ME 04942. All bids must be received by
June 18th, 2015.
All bids will be publicly opened at the regular Select Board
Meeting on June 18th, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. A certified check, bank
money order, or postal order in the amount of ten percent (10%) of
the bid price shall be included as a deposit. Title to the property is
influenced by an IRS lien. Should an adequate bid be accepted, the
deadline for full payment will be at the conclusion of the necessary
negotiations with the IRS by the Town of Harmony. At that time a
municipal quit claim deed with no covenants and no warranty, expressed or implied, will be given upon satisfaction of the bid price.
The deposit will be forfeited at that time if full payment is not
made. Failure of an agreement with the IRS regarding a release
of their lien will cancel sale. The deposit would be returned unless
successful bidder desires to increase his offer to achieve settlement. Site visit prior to bid is highly recommended. The Town of
Harmony Select Board has the right to reject any and all bids.
Description of this property, totaling 2.26 acres, with structures
in Somerset County, Registry of Deeds, at Book 2779, Page 249,

Tankless Water
Heaters
You don’t use hot water 24 hours a day, but with
a standard water heater, you heat and reheat the
same water - even when you’re sleeping.
The Rinnai tankless water heater is a more efficient way
to heat quickly and will deliver an endless supply of hot
water for as long as you need it. With the Rinnai tankless
water heater, you only pay to heat water when you need
it! Produce and supply endless streams of hot water to
multiple outlets simultaneously without any fluctuation
in temperature.
• Up to 50 percent more energy efficient than traditional
gas water heaters - up to 70 percent more efficient
than an electric water heater
• Shut-off automatically when the water supply is closed,
providing significant energy savings
• Compact wall mounted units with a life expectancy of
25 years.
Rinnai Energy
Efficient
Space Heaters
Enjoy comfortable heat anywhere all winter
long. Rinnai heaters are efficient and easy
to install. And the innovative cool-to-thetouch cabinet makes it safe for the whole
family.
Rinnai’s ductless heaters are among the
quietest operating on the market. Efficient
fans offer exceptional air flow at very low
decibels, a little louder than a whisper (3147 dBA).
