Relay for Life Team Central
PCMS Central participated in
Relay for Life of Pembroke Pines
on April 24-25th. Five students:
Dylan Perry-Smith, Zachary Pizzo,
Nicholas Pizzo, Ethan Frankel, and
Alexis Cid started the team and
recruited others. Our team fundraised from October to April. Our
goal was to raise a minimum of
$100.00 per student, and we exceeded our goal. Our team raised
$4,697.73 with the total group (44
teams) raising $149,000. During
our Relay event, four cancer survivors were part of our team. Survivors participated in a dinner, a
recognition ceremony receiving a
medal, and the first lap around the
track. Caregivers received a sash
and walked the second lap around
the track. It was an amazing
night.! Many of our students have
family members that have recently
died of cancer or have been diagnosed with cancer. Our students
relay for many reasons, the most
pertinent is that they want to
make a difference. Proceeds from
our fundraisers are donated to the
American Cancer Society. We
are excited to continue with this
effort next year and hope to expand out team membership and
our overall financial goal. We are
proud of all of those who participated for this very worthy cause.
Thank you, Ms. Alina Perry-Smith
for your leadership and dedication
to this effort!
