PRICE CODE Lodi Apple Lodi is an older variety that was introduced to replace Yellow Transparent, which it resembles somewhat in appearance and season. It is a good early season apple for pies and sauces, but as a dessert apple it tends to be very tart and has been known to have given many a young boy a "belly ache" when picked too early. It is a better keeper than Yellow Transparent and is more firm. ZONE 4-8 ALL ROOTS C Quinte Apple Quinte is one of the earliest quality summer apples to eat. The fruit is crisp, juicy and tasty with a red blush over a yellow skin. It doesn't store well, but does harvest over a longer period and require several pickings. The tree is vigorous and very hardy. Ripens in July near Lodi and Yellow Transparent. ZONE 4-8 ALL ROOTS G Red Astrachan Apple Red Astrachan is a small to medium sized apple with a pale creamy skin striped with red and covered with a heavy bloom. The white flesh is sometimes striped with red and is excellent for eating. It is tart and an excellent cooking, sauce and pie apple. Does not store long. The tree is productive but can be biennial. The tree is vigorous, productive and heavy bearing. ZONE 2-6 ALL ROOTS G Benoni Apple Benoni is a late summer apple that is a fine dessert apple. It is highly flavored, with a mild sub-acid flavor. The fruit is medium sized, Deep red striped over an orangish-yellow skin. It is a good bearer, but can be biennial. Ripens in July to August. ZONE 4-7 AVAILABLE FALL 2012. ALL ROOTS G Carroll Apple Carroll is a very hardy apple that ripens early in the summer season. It is a somewhat dwarfish tree but produces well. It is an early bloomer. Keeps fairly well for such an early, summer apple. ZONE 5-8 ALL ROOTS C Norland Apple Norland is another good hardy apple variety for the far north. Its medium size red fruit are good for both cooking and eating. It ripens in mid-August, but is a good keeper in cold storage, lasting up to 16 weeks. ZONE 4-8 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL ROOTS G ALL Centennial Crab is a very hardy, edible crab that can beautify Centennial Edible Flowering the yard also. It is a compact grower that produces small, ROOTS G crisp, juicy edible crabs that are sweet and nutty flavored Crabapple about 1.5 inches in diameter. It ripens in mid-August and is an excellent pollinizer for other apples, bearing heavy loads of red flower buds that open into white blossoms. Good for eating, canning and jelly. It is highly scab resistant. ZONE 39 ALL Chenango Strawberry is one of the most beautiful summer Chenango Strawberry Apple apples, with medium to large, conical, shiny, yellowish- ROOTS G whitish, smooth skinned apples. The skin is almost translucent. The fruit is firm, juicy and white, but tender and very aromatic. Pick when the skin stars to turn milky. It picks over a long period of several weeks, but overripe fruit will get dry and mealy. Good for eating and sauce. The tree is very hardy, but very susceptible to fire blight. It is not a long term keeper, but is a good seasonal apple ripening in mid-August. ZONE 4-8 Ginger Gold® Apple ALL Ginger Gold® is an early golden-type apple that ripens in the summer, late in August to early September. ZONE 3-7 Maiden Blush Apple ALL Maiden Blush is a fine heirloom summer apple that produces regular crops of flattish round yellow apples with a beautiful ROOTS G crimson blush. It has a very pleasing flavor and will keep quite well for several weeks. ZONE 6-8 ALL Oldenberg or Oldenburg is likely the same variety as Duchess that we also Duchess Apple carry. We have not yet been able to compare the two ROOTS G cultivars side-by-side. ZONE 4-8 Red Summer Rambo Apple ALL Red Summer Rambo is a "double red" strain of regular Summer Rambo. It has all the same qualities. The large fruit ROOTS G is red striped. The flesh is very crisp, juicy, yellowish green, with a fine, rich, tart, aromatic flavor. Its great for eating and sauce. The tree is very vigorous, hardy and productive. It ripens earlier in the season in August to September. It appears to be denser than Gala and will keep for several months. The tree is similar to Gala is other respects. CODE ALL Grandma's most fondly remembered apple as a little girl was Fameuse or as it is commonly called, Snow Apple. It is a very ROOTS D old heritage variety known for its hardiness, good flavor and eating quality, and late summer, early fall ripening time. The old-timers made good use of it for apple cider because of its aromatic and distinct flavor, and because it is only a fair to good keeper. The flesh is tender and "snow white" like its name suggests. The fruit is red over a cream background color. ZONE 4-8 ALL Frostbite™ Apple Frostbite(TM) was just recently named by the University of Minnesota. Known as MN 447, it is an older cultivar that has ROOTS E been used as a parent in the breeding of other successful U of MN apple varieties. Because of its unique, sweet, aromatic, and unusual flavor people who know MN 447 had been encouraging the University to release it. The fruit is only small to medium in size, being 2¼ to 2½ inches in diameter, but is very firm, crisp and juicy. It will store for 3-4 months in common storage at 34-37°F. The flesh is a creamy, light yellow. It is an attractive maroon red over a yellow gold background. It usually exhibits striped coloration, but often can be somewhat dappled. CODE ALL Honeygold Apple Honeygold is a great substitute for Golden Delicious in colder, northern areas where it is much more hardy. It is reported to ROOTS D be able to withstand -50F degrees with little winter damage. It is medium to large size, with a golden to yellowish green color and a reddish bronze blush. It has a Golden Delicious flavor, but is a little sweeter and blander. It is high quality and stores well. Ripens in October, similar to Golden Delicious. ZONE 37 ALL Jonafree™ Apple Grandpa's Nature Friendly™ Jonafree is one of the scab immune varieties, that is most like it namesake, with which it ROOTS C ripens. Jonafree is nearly identical to old-time red Jonathan in eating quality, flavor, and appearance. It is slightly less acidic though. It is a bright red apple, with glossy skin and generally no russetting. It does not develop "Jonathan" spot when stored, like normal Jonathan does. Can be used as an all purpose apple. CODE ALL Red Jonathan hardly needs a description since it is one of the most popular heritage apples in the Midwest. Crisp, slightly ROOTS A striped, but mostly red, juicy and sweet tart. One of the best varieties for pies and sauce. Our strain is highly colored and sizes well for this medium sized apple. Ripens early in the fall. Stores and keeps well. ZONE 4-8 ALL Sekai-Ichi Apple Sekai-Ichi originated in Japan and will produce huge fruit, similar in color, appearance, and taste to the old original ROOTS D Delicious apple, which is one of its parents. The fruit ripens in mid-season and has high dessert quality. ZONE 5-8 Spartan Apple ALL Spartan was always one of Grandpa's favorites. It is very McIntosh-like looking and tasting, but is much firmer and ROOTS D keeps better. It picks a couple weeks later in the early fall. The fruit is medium to large, with a dark red mahogany color and a metallic sheen like McIntosh. The flesh is pure white, firm, aromatic, and finely flavored. It is a good dessert and sauce apple. ZONE 4-8 ALL Valentine Apple Valentine is an old Canadian prairie apple that is very hardy. The fruit is greenish-yellow with a red flush. The flesh is ROOTS G rather course but has an excellent taste and is good for fresh eating or cooking. Ripens in the early mid-season. ZONE 2-8 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Washington Strawberry is usually large fruited with waxy Washington Strawberry Apple yellow skin mottled and striped with red. The fruit is firm, ROOTS G yellow fleshed and juicy with a nice sub-acid flavor. It ripens early in the Fall season in September. The tree is hardy, healthy and a reliable cropper. The fruit is medium sized, round with a dark crimsonpurple color over a yellowish-orange background color. It has excellent flavor. It stores well, but shows some dropping tendencies as it ripens. ZONE 5-8 Melrose Apple ALL Melrose is a popular apple in Ohio where is originated, but will grow well in all parts of the country where it is more humid ROOTS D and rainy. It is an excellent dessert quality apple with great keeping qualities. It resembles Jonathan in appearance, but ripens later in the season before Red Rome time. Can be used for all purposes. ZONE-5-8 ALL Michelin Bitter- Michelin is an old English cider variety that has been found to Sweet Hard Cidre be great for cider blending. It has a bittersweet flavor. The ROOTS G fruits are medium sized, round and yellowish. The tree is an Apple upright, somewhat spurry grower. It is a heavy, reliable cropper that ripens in mid-late season, mid-October. It blooms in mid-season. ZONE 5-8 Noels des Champs BitterSweet Hard Cidre Apple ALL Noel des Champs is a hard cidre variety with a bittersweet character. ZONE 4-8 ALL Northwest Greening is an old heritage variety that Grandpa Northwest Greening Apple grew up with. It was a popular old winter variety that could ROOTS C sometimes produce exceptionally large apples almost 5" across. The fruit is a pale green, that turns yellow when fully mature. It has a waxy, smooth handsome finish. It is well known as a good keeper into the winter. ZONE 3-7 Nova EasyGro Apple ALL Nova EasyGro resembles Cortland in looks and ripening period. The fruit is only medium sized, round, with a stripy ROOTS G blush over a pale greenish yellow background. The flesh is creamy white, smooth, firm, crisp, moderately juicy with a subacid pleasant flavor. It keeps well and is an excellent choice for the backyard orchard as it is scab resistant. Its most outstanding ROOTS D feature is its flavor, which is described as sweet with a tart balance and rich overtones, almost buttery. The tree is extremely hardy and will grow well in cold climates. The fruit is large, oblate, with a beautiful red-bronze blush over a greenish yellow background. ZONE 4-8 Spigold Apple ALL Farmers who grew Spigold loved the apple, but it never made it commercially. Spigold is an exceptionally high quality with ROOTS G firm, fine grained, crisp yellow flesh. It stores very well. It has a flavor that combines Northern Spy and Golden Delicious into a superior blend. It is good for fresh eating, cooking and baking. The tree is a strong, hardy grower. ZONE 3-6 Tompkins County King Apple ALL Tomkins County King is a very large apple that has proven good for all uses from dessert, pies, sauce, cider and drying. ROOTS G The fruit is smooth, yellow with an orangish red, and some striping. The flesh is yellow, tender and course, but has a rich, sub-acid balanced flavor. It is not a good storage apple, showing water-core and greasiness overtime. The tree is dwarfish, but precocious and somewhat vigorous. The variety is a tri-ploid so requires cross pollinator with another normal variety. ZONE 4-8 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Tremlett's Bitter Tremlett's Bitter is a classic, bitter-sweet hard cider variety. The medium sized fruit is firm and the juice is bittersweet. CODE ALL Wagener Apple Wagener is a medium to large size, distinctly knobby, irregular five sided flat fruit. It has thin, glassy smooth skin ROOTS G which is light yellow with pale red striping and mottling. The flesh is tender, crisp, firm, fine grained and has a subacid aromatic flavor that resembles Northern Spy. It is a great sauce and cider variety. The tree is smallish, hardy, early and prolific bearing. It keeps for long periods. Ripens in late season, mid-late October. ZONE 4-9 ALL Yellow Bellflower Yellow Bellflower is a fine winter dessert apple. It is lemonyellow with white russety dots and a slight pink blush. The ROOTS Apple G fruit is usually large, elongated and sometimes lopsided. It can bruise easily. The creamy flesh is crisp and firm with a sweet, subacid flavor. It can be used for all purposes. When picked early on the tart side it will keeps for several months and mellow up. The tree is healthy and vigorous. Ripens in October. ZONE 4-8 APPLE Fall-Late season--- Listed alphabetically. CODE Ashmead's Kernel Apple ALL Ashmead's Kernel bears medium sized, greenish yellow fruits often with a heavy brownish russet. It is usually a flattish, ROOTS G round apple, but sometimes it can be conical. The yellowish flesh is crisp, sweet, juicy and aromatic, but is somewhat tart when harvested in late October. It reaches peak flavor in early November. For flavor it is highly rated. It is a good cider variety and the fruit will keep for several months. Very hardy to about -40 degrees. The tree appears vigorous and early bearing. ZONE 3-7 Baldwin Apple ALL Baldwin is a large winter apple with bright red skin. The yellow flesh is crispy, aromatic and juicy. It is an excellent all ROOTS G purpose heirloom apple and keeps well. The tree is very vigorous. It is a triploid variety so needs pollination from regular varieties. Ripens mid-to late season. ZONE 4-7 ALL Black Twig Apple Black Twig has medium-large fruit that is red flushed over a greenish-yellow skin. It is very firm with yellow flesh. It is ROOTS G quite tart, but excellent for eating and cider. Reported resistant to many apple diseases. Ripens in mid-late season. ZONE 6-9 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Boskoop Apple Boskoop has been a well known and favorite old all purpose apple in England for years. It has large, greenish-yellow fruit ROOTS G with red blush. It is crisp and tangy and highly aromatic. Great for dessert, cooking and baking. It keeps well and mellows and sweetens in storage. It is late ripening in November. Boskoop is a triploid variety and needs to be pollinated with another non-triploid variety. ZONE 3-6 ALL Bramley's Sharp Bramley's Seedling is a large, flat, firm apple with greenishHard Cidre Apple yellow skin. It is great for baking and cooking as well as being ROOTS G a good cider apple, with firm, juicy, sharply acidic flesh. It is high in Vitamin C. It is scab and mildew resistant, blooms late, but is a triploid, so must be pollinated by other late blooming apples. It bears heavily, but can be biennial. It can become greasy skinned in storage and is only a fair keeper. Ripens in late October to November. ZONE 4-9 ALL Brown Snout Brown Snout is a strictly cider variety that produces a bittersweet cider. The fruit is smallish with greenish-yellow ROOTS Bitter-Sweet G Hard Cidre Apple skin. The trees is only moderately vigorous and is very ROOTS Bitter-Sweet G Hard Cidre Apple susceptible to fire blight. It ripens late in the season. It is a late bloomer. ZONE 5-8 Cameo® Apple ALL Grandpa's Choice™ Cameo® is a new variety that almost everyone likes. It is a large, fairly attractive red-striped apple ROOTS D with excellent, sweet-tart flavor and crisp, juicy flesh. It stores well, even in the refrigerator. It picks quite late in the fall, so don't rush to pick it before its time. ZONE 5-8 ALL Criterion Apple Criterion is a very attractive golden delicious type apple with a reddish pink bluish. Good for all uses. The flesh is creamy, ROOTS G with a mildly sweet aromatic flavor. The tree is large, spreading and productive. The fruit is conical like a red delicious. Ripens in late mid-season in mid-October in Michigan. ZONE 5-8 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Enterprise Apple Enterprise is a excellent, red color, disease resistant variety, with medium to large size and good keeping qualities. ROOTS D Resembles an Idared or Red Spy in appearance. Flavor is moderately acid when harvested, but mellows nicely after storage. It harvests late in the fall season with Rome. ZONE 5-8 Esopus Spitzenburg Apple ALL Esopus Spitzenburg is a connoisseurs delight with medium to large, round, orangish red fruits. The skin is tough and has ROOTS G russety dots and hard to see stripes. The flesh is juicy, crisp, fine grained and yellow with a spicy, aromatic flavor which improves with storage. It ripens unevenly from October through November, but keeps well in storage through spring. ZONE 4-10 ALL Grandpa's Golden Rezista® is an attractive yellow-green Grandpa's Golden Rezista® apple. It is a high quality dessert apple, with a very unique ROOTS E lemony, spicy taste unlike any other. The fruit is finely Apple textured and very juicy. The medium large size fruit will change to yellow during storage, and it holds well. It harvests in mid-season, a few days after Yellow Delicious and will hang well on the tree. It is hardier than most yellow apples. Scab resistant but susceptible to fire blight. ZONE 4-8 ALL Grandpa's Rome- Grandpa's Rome-like Rezista® is an attractive bright red and like Rezista® yellow bi-colored apple. It is only medium in size. ZONE 4-8 ALL Keepsake Apple Keepsake may not be the prettiest apple to look at, but it is a good one for the northern backyard because it is a heavy ROOTS E cropper of medium sized red apples that keep thru to Spring. When picked the fruit is hard and very crisp with a strong aromatic flavor. It mellows with storage and becomes a fine eating apple in January. Ripens late in the season in October. ZONE 3-8 ALL King David Apple King David produces dark red fruit over a greenish background color. The fruit is medium sized, firm, crisp, ROOTS G spicy, juicy, yellow fleshed and is very flavorful. It is good for all uses from cider to sauce, pies, and eating. It is a late ripening variety but never seems to drop. Pick when fully red colored. Resistant to fire blight. ZONE 5-8 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 V-17 APPLE Fall-Late season--- Listed alphabetically. CODE ALL Mutsu or Crispin Mutsu, or Crispin as it is called in New York and out East, was one of Grandpa's favorites, but not good enough to be a ROOTS Apple D "Choice" variety. Mutsu is a very large, golden apple that picks late in the season. It can produce prodigious amounts of apples. The fruit is very similar to Golden Delicious in flavor when it mellows after a few weeks of storage. ZONE 58 Northern Spy Apple ALL Northern Spy may be one of the world's ugliest fruits, but it sure makes great pies! Northern Spy is a large, round, ROOTS C somewhat flat apple with greenish-yellow fruit and some red blushing and striping. The fruit is fine grained, very firm and crisp, and somewhat yellow fleshed. The flavor is tart and sub acid. It keeps for exceptional lengths and is a favorite for pie making since it keeps its texture so well after baking. It is very hardy, well adapted to cold climes, because of its late bloom. Picks late in the fall. ZONE 4-8 ALL NovaSpy Apple Grandpa's Nature Friendly™ NovaSpy is a good scab resistant alternative to Northern Spy, which it resembles. The ROOTS D fruit is medium size with some stripy, dark red blush. The flesh is creamy yellow, fine textured and very firm and crisp. It is moderately juicy, slightly acidic and has very good flavor. Excellent for fresh eating or pies, like Spy is. Ripens after Red Delicious and before regular Northern Spy. It stores and holds well. ZONE 5-8 Opalescent Apple ALL Opalescent is a large fruited apple with smooth skin that is completely red, turning to carmine or purplish. The fruit is ROOTS G firm, juicy, mildly subacid with yellow flesh. It t ripens in late fall. The skin becomes greasy in storage. ZONE 5-7 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Prairie Spy Apple Prairie Spy is an attractive Northern Spy-type apple. It has large fruit that are red over a yellow background. The fruit is ROOTS G very crisp, juicy, and has an excellent flavor. It can be used for most purposes. It stores well for several months and the flavor improves with storage. The tree is very hardy, vigorous , and productive. It bears earlier than Northern Spy. It is a late bloomer, and suitable for frostier locations. An excellent alternative to Northern Spy for the backyard! ZONE 3-9 ALL Querina® Apple Querina® is a new scab and mildew resistant late ripening variety. The fruit is firm, juicy and tasty. It usually ripens into ROOTS E a solid red color. It ripens 2-3 weeks after Golden Delicious in mid-late October. The tree is vigorous and somewhat upright. ZONE 5-8 ALL Red Rome Apple Grandpa's Choice (TM) Red Rome is an old time favorite for cooking, baking, cider and drying. Rome is a medium to large ROOTS A size apple, with all red skin, and very firm, hard, white flesh. It ripens late in the season. Its fresh flavor is appreciated by some, but Grandpa always swore that if he ate one right off the tree, he would have to buy new dentures because they were so hard. But, after mellowing and ripening, they have a nice, sub-acid pleasant flavor. ZONE 4-8 Red Stayman Apple V-18 ALL Red Stayman is a real old time variety that is still very popular in the south. It is a medium to large apple with a tart, rich, ROOTS D wine-like flavor. The fruit is a dull red, and the skin is often rather rough, not taking a real shine like most apples. It ripens late in the season and is an excellent keeper. Most people like it for baking and cider, but others like its unique flavor as a dessert apple. ZONE 5-8 APPLE Fall-Late season--- Listed alphabetically. CODE Red Winesap Apple ALL Grandpa's Choice™ Red Winesap is an old-time favorite in many places. It is a medium size, dark red apple that is great ROOTS D for cooking and cider because of its aromatic fragrance and rich, spicy flavor. Resistant to fire blight and ripens midOctober-early November. ZONE 5-8 Spijon Apple ALL Spijon resembles Jonathan in flavor and quality, but ripens later in the season with Northern Spy. It is a large, dark red, ROOTS G blushed apple with firm, light yellow flesh. The fruit is subacid, slightly tart, but with very good eating and processing qualities. It will store for several months. The tree is productive. ZONE 4-8 ALL WineCrisp™ is one of the newest disease resistant apples. WineCrisp™ 'Co-op 31' Apple As its name suggests, it is reminiscent of the old Winesap. It ROOTS D has medium sized, deep red, non-glossy fruits that ripen a couple weeks after Red Delicious in mid-October. The flesh is crisp and has a good mix of sweet and tart. It will store for a long period. The tree is moderately vigorous and semispreading. It is resistant to fire blight and mildew, but somewhat susceptible to cedar apple rust. ZONE 4-9 ALL Winesap is a favorite apple in the South where it is well Winesap Heirloom Apple known for it long keeping characteristics. It is only a medium ROOTS G sized dark red fruit. The flesh is very crisp, juicy, yellow with a spicy, wine-like flavor and aroma. It can be used for many purposes including cider. It is a heavy producer. It ripens in October. Requires a pollinator and should not be relied on to pollinate other varieties. It shows some resistance to fire blight and cedar apple rust. ZONE 5-10 Winter Banana Apple ALL Winter Banana is one of the most beautiful apples in appearance. It is a large apple with strikingly beautiful pale ROOTS D yellow, waxy skin usually blushed with a delicate rosy pink. Flesh is moderately firm, slightly coarse, crisp, tangy and juicy. It's distinctive, aromatic flavor, similar to a banana, is a favorite for cider and fresh eating. Ripens during October and November. ZONE 5-8 York Apple ALL York is a popular eating, cooking and processing apple in the Northeast. Grandpa's strain is highly colored and quite spurry ROOTS D and more compact than ordinary York. ZONE 4-7 APPLE Very Late Fall season--- Listed alphabetically. CODE ALL Arkansas Black Arkansas Black is a old-time heritage variety that has been a favorite in the south for years. It is very late maturing, along ROOTS Apple D with Granny Smith and Braeburn. When mature it has very dark, almost black skin. The fruit has a distinctive tart flavor and can be used for many purposes. ZONE 6-8 ALL Ben Davis Apple Ben Davis was one of the most widely grown apples after the Civil War. It is a large red-striped fruit with hard, course, white ROOTS G flesh. It is known as an exceptional keeper, reportedly lasting into June and July. It ripens late and is a good pollinator for other apples. Hardy to Zone 3. It has some disease resistance. ZONE 3-7 AVAILABLE FALL 2012 ALL Braeburn Apple Braeburn is one of the most popular apples in the produce section. It is a large, conical, very dense fleshed red apple ROOTS D with a nice sweet, but tart flavor. Reminiscent of Jonathan in some ways. Very crisp and juicy. It is one of the latest picking apples in the fall. Wait as long as possible for the best quality--- wait for its background color to change from green to yellow. ZONE 5-8 V-19 APPLE Caville Blanc Apple Very Late Fall season--- Listed alphabetically. CODE ALL Caville Blanc was a favorite apple of Thomas Jefferson and France's Louis XIII. It an excellent sauce, cooking and ROOTS G dessert apple with tender, sweet-spicy, yellowish-white flesh with a flavorful, banana-like aroma. It is reported to have more Vitamin C than an orange. The fruit is only mediumlarge sized with pale red dots on its greenish-white skin. It is an excellent keeper. It is resistant to scab, but not to cedar apple rust. Late ripening around November. ZONE 5-9 ALL GoldRush Apple GoldRush is a very fine, high quality disease resistant golden apple with a pretty blush. It is one of the latest harvesting ROOTS D apples, so may not ripen properly in many northern areas. However, letting it hang as long as possible and storing for a while before eating will allow it to mellow. It is very firm, crisp and juicy. Tart at harvest it will develop a very rich, well balanced flavor after a few weeks of storage. It stores very well. ZONE 5-8 Granny Smith Apple ALL Grandpa's Choice™ Granny Smith is another of the most popular varieties that almost needs no description. Go into ROOTS A any produce department and Grannies will be right next to Red and Golden Delicious. The popularity of Granny is that it is a brilliant green, very crisp, very tart apple. It can be used for many purposes. Granny Smith is one of the latest ripening varieties, so "let it hang" until the first snow flurries in early November for the best flavor. Ripens better in longer growing seasons. In many cooler climates, it will get a little red blush rather than stay totally bright green. ZONE 5-8 ALL Lady Decorative Lady Apple is a very unique apple. The fruit looks miniature Hard Cidre Apple with a glossy red cheek on a creamy yellow smooth skin. It ROOTS G has crisp, juicy, highly aromatic flesh that should not be peeled as much of the fragrance is in the skin. It is an excellent cider variety also. It keeps well through May, ripening late in November. It is often used in decorations as the fruit looks just like a miniature, waxed apple! ZONE 4-9 Newtown or Yellow Pippin Apple ALL Newtown or Yellow Pippin is not the most beautiful apple in the world, but has a rich, juicy flavor with a piney tartness. It ROOTS D is medium to large and has excellent dessert quality. The fruit is green, breaking to light yellow when ripe. It ripens late in the season, just ahead of Granny Smith. ZONE 5-8 ALL Red Fuji Apple- Grandpa's Choice™ Red Fuji apple is our selection of the world famous late harvesting Fuji that everyone sees in the ROOTS Main season C produce store. It ripens late in the fall season, with Braeburn and Granny Smith. It can be very successfully grown in most Zone 5 areas, but will not mature to its full sweetness usually. Flavor though is excellent. ZONE 6-8
