SUMMARY: The Broadening the Base (BtB) Coordinator assists in various aspects of the
administration, coordination, leadership and promotion of the BtB initiative.
BACKGROUND: Broadening the Base (BtB) is a community-centered, collaborative and
inclusive Ottawa initiative focused on catalyzing and leveraging land, property,
philanthropic and development resources to support the building of 1,500 new affordable
housing units over the next five years to provide sustainable, long term and affordable
accommodation for key vulnerable populations including: individuals who are chronically
homeless, low income families with multiple young children, youth at-risk, Aboriginal
people, and vulnerable seniors.

BtB is administered by the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, but is supervised
collectively by the BtB co-creators.
This position is contingent on funding that is yet to be fully realized. Beginning as a fourmonth commitment, it is anticipated to become a one year contract, expected to be 0.75
full-time equivalent time commitment.
RESPONSIBILITIES




Coordinate the Broadening the Base initiative
Administer and lead the 5 BtB Development Circles
Supports the BtB Core Design Team
Corporate Administration
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum three years of management experience in the non-profit sector, preferably in
the homelessness sector and in a senior role

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues related to homelessness,
affordable housing and poverty

Familiarity with collective impact and co-creation methodology

Experience in leading volunteer driven activities

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain sound relationships with volunteers,
colleagues, members of the public, the media, donors and existing or potential
stakeholders

Proven experience in community outreach, public engagement & advocacy

Excellent communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal) and the ability to work
effectively in both English and French

Competently understands and utilizes various social media platforms to enhance
awareness, networking, and fundraising

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Prezi and Design
Software (such as Adobe InDesign)

Experience in administering a website and adding content

Exceptional organizational and project management skills

Willingness to work flexible hours and attend meetings/events outside of normal
business hours
REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa
COMPENSATION: $5,000/month (initial commitment of 4 months tied to confirmed
funding, with extension to full 12 month period as funding is confirmed)
