Professor Russell Gwilliam, University of Surrey,
is the Professor of Semiconductor Process
Engineering and Director of Technology for Surrey
Ion Beam Centre. He has over 30 years of
experience in the development of advanced
semiconductor processes in materials including
Si, III-V's, II-VI's, SiC and diamond and is also
founder and director of Si-Light Technologies Ltd.
A regular invited speaker and chair at international
conferences. He has built a large industrial
clientele who routinely access the ion beam
facilities. He is the UK representative on several
International Scientific Committees including the
Ion Implantation Technology, the Ion Beam
Modification of Materials, and the Surface
Modification of Materials with Ion Beams. He has
a strong international reputation in the field of ionimplantation and has a significant record of
accomplishment in the area of silicon photonics.
Welcome to the National University
of Science and Technology MISiS!
Here you will receive a highly competitive
education and practical skills as well as
enjoy the friendly and enthusiastic
atmosphere of students and a young
researcher community. In addition to your
studies, you can participate in the
numerous exciting extra-curricular
activities we offer: sports, theater, music,
and more.
We are located in the very heart of
Moscow – close to all of its wonders and
cultural treasures, granting you convenient
access to the historic places of Tolstoy and
Dostoyevsky. Plus, intensive Russian
language courses are included in our
master’s programs to help you get the
most from your stay and studies in Russia.
Professor Andrey Polisan,
National University of Science and Technology «MISiS».
His extensive expertise lay in the fields of solar
power engineering, material science of
semiconductors, and dielectrics and technology
of semiconductor devices. Professor Polisan
has developed and is now teaches the following
course: Physics of Photonic Devices,
Fundamentals of RadiationTechnology of
Semiconductors, Fundamentals of
Semiconductor Materials Used in Space
Technology, and Material Science and
Technology of Promising Materials in Solid
State Electronics. Being an active researcher,
Professor Polisan is currently carrying out
several research projects, which include the
development of technology for synthesis and
fabrication of experimental batches of highpurity oxides, salts and nanoparticulatepolymeric sols and the development of methods
for metal nanopowders of iron with enhanced
corrosion resistance.
Dr. Masamba Kah, National University
of Science and Technology «MISiS»,
Head of Solar Energy: Science and
Materials program. He has research
experience of various semiconductor
materials characterization techniques.
His current research interests are solar
cell efficiency, new materials for solar
cells, and environmental issues of solar
cell utilization. Dr. Kah is actively
involved in international relations of the
university and is responsible for
developing educational and research
collaborations worldwide.
Energy is essential for any human activity. It affects all
aspects of our social life, which include science,
technology, economics, politics, education, healthcare, and
sociology. Global demands for clean and efficient energy
solutions require engineers with knowledge and skills
which cover fundamentals of current energy sources,
whilst capable of specializing in one of the areas of
renewable energy industry. The sun is the most abundant
energy source known to men. The master's program Solar
Energy: Science and Materials provides students with
theoretical and practical skills necessary for development
and modernization of solar energy harvesting within the
renewable energy sector. Upon completion of the program,
the students will be capable of using new technologies and
innovative ideas for implementation of environmentally
friendly solutions to global energy problems.
The aims of the program are:
- To teach the science of solar energy harvesting,
generation of electricity, and energy efficiency
- To develop expertise in theoretical and practical aspects
of the solar energy industry
- To prepare students for employment in the solar energy
industry
- To teach skills for further research at the PhD level
Successful completion of the program enables the students
with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical
skills.
The students will be aware of various types and
constructions of solar cells as well as production techniques
and processes deployed by the micro- and nano-electronics
industries. They will also gain knowledge about
fundamental physical and chemical properties of materials
used in the electronics industry for solar cell production.
The program provides knowledge about a wide spectrum of
applications and qualities of new materials and structures
designed at the nano-scale, which makes successful
students highly employable in the renewable energy
industry.
