PeopleTools 8.54 Enhancements in the zzusis Portal
29 April 2015
PeopleTools is the proprietary software development environment that was created by the PeopleSoft Corporation. The developer
tools make up the underlying application that runs the zzusis portal, Campus Solutions and Business Intelligence environments.
This document shows a few of the new zzusis enhancements you will notice after the zzusis portal is upgraded to the latest
version of the PeopleTools software. As with all new software, there are a few bugs that are present and we have alerted Oracle
to the two bugs we have identified and they are actively working on a fix. Once the resolution is developed for the bugs, we will
install them in the portal. This document provides a description of the two bugs and describes several work-a-rounds to allow
end users to complete their day-to-day tasks until the issues are resolved.
1. The Favorites Menu Item moves from the top right of the screen to the first column of a new Menu Line starting on the left
side of the screen.
2. This new menu line will expand to show the Breadcrumbs representing your navigation path. In this example, the navigation
path moves through Campus Community to the Person Comment Summary page.
3. You will notice there are drop down arrows next to several menu items. These are navigational aids and not active graphic
links and just indicate that there are other sub-menus within that item. You do not click on the arrow to show the sub-menu,
you need to click on the menu item text to open a drop down menu showing the options within that navigation path. In this
example shown below, you can click on the Comments – Person text and see the other options for that sub-menu. You can
click the text of any of the menu line items that have a down arrow to show the other page view options available for that
navigation path. Selecting one of the listed items in this window will navigate to that page.
4. Menu items within the Main Menu and Sub-Menus now have a Folder Icon listed in front of the item when there are submenus within that topic. The arrows shown in the drop down menus are navigational aids and are not active graphic links as
part of the delivered Oracle design. You need to click on the text Main Menu and not the down arrow graphic to expand the
menu and show the list of menu items. You have two options for viewing the sub-menus.
a. Clicking on the Name of any sub-menu item will open a pop-out window showing the items in the next level of that
menu. You continue clicking the menu item Name until you drill in to the page you need to access.

b. A second option is to click on the Folder Icon next to the menu item name and this will open a new FAN (Fast Application
Notification) page showing all the associated menu folders and the contents of each subfolder contained within that path.
This option allows for fast access to open a specific application page or folder to view all items and then select the specific
page you need.
Clicking on the Name will expand the menu
Clicking on the folder icon gives you the FAN page view
5. We encourage you to explore how you can use the Favorites menu to have quick and easy access to the pages you do your
day-to-day tasks. To add any page to the Favorites menu, use one of the two options above to navigate to the page you need
to work on. Once on that page, click on the “Add to Favorites” link at the top of the page and then from the window that
opens, click OK. That page will now appear in your Favorites menu.
One Outstanding Issue with the new PeopleTools 8.54.07 version
The Search function within the portal is the only outstanding issue we have with the new version and using the Search feature
does not return any results. The Enterprise Systems Tech team is currently working with Oracle on the resolution to this issue.
A brief summary of the issue is that PeopleTools version 8.54 uses a new search engine call Secure Enterprise Search (SES)
which will allow us to have a search returning more detailed results beyond page navigations. However, that new search
engine will require additional hardware to operate and Oracle is in the process of setting up those servers. We do not have a
timeline for when the search feature will be available in the portal.
To prepare for the search feature not being available in the portal on June 1st, we recommend that you think about the tasks
that you complete and the pages you need to access to complete those tasks. Then, navigate to each of those pages and once
on the page, use the Add to Favorites link to save that page into your favorites. When we compete the upgrade on May 29th
-31st, the pages saved in your favorites list will transfer over and you will have direct access to those pages. The steps to create
favorites are outlined in #5 above.
