TIPS FOR A GREAT GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K DAY!
Tips for everyone…




Be sure to use our Event Layout map and participate in as many pre-race activities as you’d like. There will be a detailed map on each
team’s clipboard and at the information tent if you need help finding anything. Activities include tiara making, hair painting, tattoos,
pinky promise, sign making, and dance party, merchandise booth and concessions.
Anybody photographing our event should have proper identification given by GOTR or Kandid.ly. The safety of our girls and participants is
a priority to us! Look for their ID badges to confirm they are a-ok!
Be sure to visit the photo booth and use the fun decorated photo frames to capture a great photo! Be sure to share your photos on
Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. GOTR Cincinnati is on Instagram at @gotrcincinnati and can be tagged there too.
When you arrive to the race, identify an easy landmark and let everyone in your party know that if they are lost or separated you will
meet them at that spot. We recommend using the stage or team sign. If a youth is lost and unable to find their family or party, please
bring them to the volunteer check-in table (identified by pink balloons). You will find the table on the event map and it is located near the
DJ booth at Mehring and Central Ave.

Wear your name somewhere for spectators to see and cheer for you!
Festive race day attire is widely practiced at our races. We encourage you to wear some funky socks, your wildest headband, tutus or
anything else that makes you look and feel your best on race day. Family friendly and appropriate attire only, please.
Visit our finisher's photo booth after the race to take a celebratory photo.
Race medals are the final keepsake for our GOTR participants as they finish their season together. Volunteers identify them by their #1
bib. Please reserve medals for our GOTR girls. We will a limited number of GOTR 5k finisher ribbons for our other youth participants
(under 18 finishers only, please).
High five and encourage other race participants and remind them of what a great job they are doing as you run along!
If you are a running buddy, encourage your girl to share with you when she is feeling tired, needs a drink, or needs extra motivation.
Encourage her to do the Motivation Shuffle (jogging a slow walker's pace while swinging her arms) which allows her to catch her breath
without losing momentum to a walk.
Be sure to line up correctly (runners, run/walk, walkers) for safety reasons and walkers keep to the right of the course.
Try not to walk more than 2 wide and be mindful of people behind you on the course who may need to pass.
Running buddies should stay with their girl the entire time including pre-race activities and the entire race. Identify a meeting spot with
your girl should you get separated. We suggest using your Team Sign or stage. Both are identified on the event layout map. If a youth is
lost and unable to find their family or party, please bring them to the volunteer check-in table (identified by pink balloons). You will find
the table on the event map and it is located near the central most flag pole on the sidewalk area.
Be sure to vote for your favorite cheer zone after the race by visiting the Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati Facebook page and liking
their photo in the “Cheer Zone” album. (Album will be posted by the Monday after the race.)
Tips for race spectators…



Encourage all participants, even if you don’t know them. Look for ways to cheer them on like “Great job, girls!”, “You are awesome, keep
it up!” or “Way to go, _______!” if you can see their name on their shirt.
Bring noise makers, posters or other items to provide an exciting race environment.
Please stay off the race course until all participants have crossed the finish line. Please respect barricades and race volunteers in their
efforts to keep a clear and safe course. Please do not move barricades or cut between them. They are there for a re ason.
