After re-assessing our assessments, we have
decided to complete the assessment in term

and offer interviews to parents of children in
their first term.
If you would like to book an interview time with
Beck to discuss phonological awareness, speech
assessments and your child’s developing social
skills, please send a note in your child’s diary.
Interviews will be held on a Wednesday or can
be done over the phone at a mutually agreeable
time.
We are looking forward to sharing your child’s
development with you.

Staffing
We have had a really big change with staffing this term. Sarah
Williams has now finished at the kindy and is due to have a baby
soon (June/July).
Asthma Care plans
To replace her we have employed Katie Fitzgerald who is coming
from Lock each Tuesday. She is an ECW1.
It is a department requirement that
all children with asthma have an asthma care plan signed by a doctor.
We have also employed Catherine Flint in the role of Early Childhood teacher and she will be working on Thursdays.
Currently we do not have any plans in
our file yet our records show that
many children have asthma at our
site. Please speak to your doctor
about getting a plan drawn up so that
we can provide the best care for your
child's needs.
You may also see Laura Kite here (from BankSA) she is actually a
qualified ECW2 and will be running our speech program this term.
Feel free to introduce yourself to our new staff! Looking forward
to a new term of fun and learning.
IMPORTANT POLICY REMINDERS
Attendance
Thanks for the great attendance this
term during census week (2). This will
aid us achieving our attendance targets for the year and will positively
influence our staffing in the coming
terms. Illness and bereavements are
understandable absences. Please keep
Beck informed if your child is unable
to attend Kindy.
Governing Council minutes are available via email. Please send me your
email address in your child’s diary.
As a result of the new National Standards for Kindys, we have had some changes to our
policies (mostly last year) making our rules slightly different to past years as well as school
rules.
Please keep in mind the following…..
1.
we are no longer able to heat up food at kindy however you are still able to deliver
warmed food at lunch (1pm).
2.
We have a hat at kindy all year and wear it if the UV rating is over 3. If your
child’s hat is still at home, please return it asap.

The children were thrilled to show off their kindy, to introduce their friends and
to make some lovely crafts with you. Outcome of our Mother’s day morning tea:

National Families Week
This week is National Families Week and we were lucky
enough to have Merrill and Nina from Centacare visit.
Merrill read a story called “busy, busy, busy” about a
very busy household—the moral of the story??
“remember to have a balance of work and fun!”
The children then made a “balancing” mobile which had
3 pictures. One of Mum working, one of Dad working
one of family time.
Centacare brings you:
2 BIGGEST PARENTING
MISTAKES
The two biggest mistakes parents and teachers make
in dealing with children are: Too Much Talking and Too
Much Emotion. Talking is bad because it either doesn’t work or takes you through the TalkPersuade-Hit-Yell- Hit syndrome.
Why is too much emotion destructive?
When they are little, kids feel inferior because they ARE lacking power. Sure, they can be
cute, lovable, but they are also smaller, have less privileges, their brains are not fully developed, they are less skilful and less responsible than their parents and older kids. This
“lessness” bugs them a lot! They don’t like it. They do like to feel they are powerful and capable and making some mark on the world.
Have you ever seen a small child go down to the water and throw
rocks in the water? Children can do that for hours, partly because
the big splashes are a sign of their impact. They are making things
happen.
Your upset is their “Big Splash”
What does rock tossing have to do with what happens at home? If
your small child can get big old you all upset, your upset is the big
splash for him. It’s not that he has no conscience and is going to
grow up and be a criminal. It’s just that having all that power temporarily rewards- or feels
good to-the powerless part of the child. Parents who say “It drives me absolutely crazy
when she eats her dinner with her fingers. Why does she do that?” may have already answered their own question. She may do that at least partly BECAUSE IT DRIVES YOU
CRAZY.
There are many discipline systems and ways of thinking about parenting, but you can ruin
any of them by talking too much and getting too excited. These two mistakes of course,
usually go hand in hand, and the emotion is usually anger.
Some parents can turn off the talking and the emotional upset like a tap and others have
to work like dogs to get the job done. Even then, they often have to remind themselves
over and over that talking and arguing and yelling and screaming don’t really help. These
tactics merely blow off steam for a few seconds. If parents find that they can’t shake
these habits, some sort of support is indicated.
In Wudinna, you can talk to:
Merrill Lymn at Centacare on 86802511. Centacare offer 1:1 sessions for couples to discuss parenting issues, or 123 Magic, Circle of Security and Mindful Awareness Parenting when there enough
numbers to run a group.

After a successful term of “News” last term, we have decided to continue to offer special news once a
term.
Once a term, your child will have the opportunity at group time to share morning news with all the children at kindy.
You will be notified of themes for term 3 early in the term.
Benefits of morning news:
♦
Children are given the opportunity to speak in front of others
♦
Sharing items that are meaningful to them
♦
Children learn to respect other’s turn to talk
♦
Children practice the skill of asking and answering
simple questions.

The children love having their parents come into the Kindy and parent help is a simple way for parents to observe their child in the Kindy environment, catch up with the staff, other parents and do a bit towards the
maintenance of our Kindy.
We understand that at times working commitments mean that you may not be able to attend. If you cannot
attend on your day, please arrange a day swap with staff. We are very happy to have help from grandparents, which may be an alternative if you are unavailable to do your duty. If you are still having difficulty
finding someone, please let us know so that we can prepare to clean up a little earlier. We are happy for you
to come at a time which is convenient to you (unless you are a lunchtime helper).
Parent help is always greatly appreciated, by the staff and the children, and we thank you for taking your
time to help keep our Kindy special.
