Sponsor MITRE Provides 260 Balls
At the Dale Farm Milk Cup more than 250 balls are on committee member Jim
Sandford’s never ending “to do” list every year in the run up to the event.
“It might seem obvious but making sure we are well looked after for
footballs is an imperative,” says Jim.
“Its an indication of the tournaments scale that we have landed a deal with
Mitre for supplying 160 match balls and another 100 training balls.”

NZ U20 side loses to Honduras
The New Zealand Men’s U-20s side continued their preparations for the FIFA U-20 World Cup with
a 2-1 loss to Honduras at Shoesmith Domain in Warkworth.
New Zealand captain Bill Tuiloma, back in the country for the first time in the lead up to
the tournament after being released by French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, opened the
scoring in the sixth minute with a rasping free kick struck from 25 yards.
The visitors levelled things up in the 27th minute when Brian Rochez Meija clipped the
ball around New Zealand goalkeeper Oliver Sail when through one-on-one after a swift counter
attack.
Honduras, who will contest
Group F along with Germany, Fiji and Uzbekistan, went 2-1
http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
up in the 63rd minute when Albert
Elis Martinez finished well inside the New Zealand penalty area.

Ellis Park
Saturday saw five matches against
Tech, and the always keenly contested Downie
Stewart Div 3 Derby. It also saw Chargers
head honcho Fozz tying the knot - congrats!
The Prems were at home to Tech, and
although an early goal from Rupert put them
ahead, Tech banged in three for a solid
halftime lead. A goal to the impressive Captain
Cam after the break saw some pressure on
the visitors before they scored a fourth to seal
it. It was a decent effort from the boys, up
against a strong Tech side that seems to have
a spot on mix of experience and youth. Roslyn
benefited from the experienced composure of
Patrick Ebanda, and Cam, Blair, and Shea
were excellent, with Shea’s performance at left
fullback earning him player of the day.
The Seconds had a 2-2 draw against
Tech in a fairly even affair. After conceding
early on, Peewee’s lads took a 2-1 lead into
the break after goals to Mikey and, believe it or not, Jez, who apparently scored a
blinder (according to Jez anyway). After a stunning start to the season the boys are just
lacking that killer instinct at the moment and couldn’t quite put the opposition away.
Johnny Madden had a stormer down the right wing and picked up POD.
The Thirds were also up against Tech, and both teams scored one unconverted
try apiece in a low scoring 5-5 draw at Culling Park. It wasn’t a great first half effort as
they conceded four with another goal to Dave Alsop the only bright spot for PV’s lads. It
was an impressive second half effort though to score four, with another to Dave and
goals to Mal, Ryan, and the indomitable rock Sauce scoring from halfway. Cam was
great again and was POD. Good fightback from the boys.
You can’t have a derby day without a tiny bit of controversy, and whilst there
was a little, the 4th Blacks registered a deserved 7-2 win up against the Whites. Scotty
Tierney made up for an own goal by providing 3 assists. Dyson was strong in midfield
again and scored a goal, and Dorje, Jules, & Browny scored too. Phil capped the
scoring with an acrobatic bicycle kick from 20 yards. Joey scored a fantastic goal for
the Whites, chipping the keeper from distance, and Dom was good back from injury and
the White’s POD.

The Chargers conceded another
first minute goal against Tech, and
went into the break outplayed and
three goals down after a scrappy
first half which threatened to
boilover but where we were our
own worst enemies. The
nightmarish threat of having Moose
referee the second half saw the
Wardrobe take the whistle and the
second half was played in much
better spirits. No goals in the
second half, scoring is definitely
the Achilles Heel for the Chargers
this year. Club legend CR battled
hard all day and picked up POD.
Cam celebrates while a smiling Hibby looks on ..
The Stallions didn’t quite click
against Melchester but still got a 1-1 draw, with Jay hero & villain scoring both goals.
The Originals had Pete in goals but even he couldn’t prevent them going down
1-5 to Cavvy. It was a decent first half effort from the boys with a goal to Tim and the
score 1-1 at the break, but then hopes were dashed by conceding four quick goals. Mike
Shotter was busy
throughout and
POD.
The Moas
travelled out to
Memorial to take

struggling to get a
full team together
by kickoff. The
Moas battled hard
but went down 13, with Kevin
channelling Roy
Keane in a tough
performance.
The Colts got
that winning
feeling back by
beating the
Frotters 4-0 on
the postage stamp. They were helped by a couple of own goals, and a great effort from
Lyall in goals to keep a clean sheet.

The Division One team (Fletcher Cup) After a week of good training the 2nds came
out firing against Northern on Saturday. We played well structured football with our
back mob and forwards all playing with a lot of heart. Committed Tom, Sean and Jake
made sure our transition was smooth which made things a bit easier for Tenn, Dave
and Joe. Great performances from Mitch on debut. MOM Jake. Rory Crow
The Division Two team. Great result today! Won 10 – 0. Change of some
personnel and the guys stepped up and played some good football. We were rushing
things in the top third but finally scored after 25 minutes. 3 – 0 at half time. The start
of the second half was more than a wish come true. Six to seven passes and the ball
placed in the back of the net!! Dominated the game and great to have guys coming
back from injury. Jake scored a hat trick, Ross scored two in his 15 minute come
back. A huge welcome back to Sam Brouwer who got 25 minutes. MOM Sam Dore a
dominant performance.
Wayne Henderson
The Division Three team versus Northern 4A. Probably our best
performance of the season but not the result we deserved. Two mistakes were
punished. Their keeper played well. Not a bad game overall. Just not the result we
wanted.

The Blue machine purrs on ..
Andys seniors played Uni and won 5-2 being 2-0 up after 15
minutes and then sat back bossing possession but not threating
the score card any further . Cody scored again and Issac got on
the ledger. The second spell saw Issac score again - Uni pulled
one back with a screamer which served as a wake up call and
saw Eder score a better one straight from the restart . Tilt came
on and missed one that was harder to miss - Reggie also got
his trigger boot working .Ron our travelling statto reckoned we
had 80% possession. We switched off with 20 to go Cody had
another sound game and Reg was back to his old self however
Hamish at the back got the pod.
2nds won 4-1 v varsity- stevie brooks instilling an
unusual formation which worked well and was 3-1 up at the
break. Phil Kelly & Riley both bagging a brace .
Ray was superb in his first game and was duly given the nod for
the pod.
Riley replaced his gun for gloves and was solid in the
sticks.Stevie said the lads Played as a full unit for first time and
Phil played at such legendary level he got called into Football
Souths mobile urine screening unit to determine if he's still
human .
Clints thirds are shorn of 9 on the injury list so his team was cobbled together from all
corners and played their usualhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
good game for 30 minutes. Seb & Hayden seeing plenty of ball and
Jordan playing out if goals with
bust finger was resolute at the back. Wee Jackie went in goals and
http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
acquitted himself well. Usual story -once conceded the floodgates opened and the Island horde
were rampant. Wee Tim & Sam kept ripping up the flank but with the back line resembling
England's cricket team middle order (averaging over 50 ) at the end there was only going to be one
winner. Monos Plainsmen won 13-0 over Northern, when asked who scored all we got was Phil
scored 4 - and a screamer with Mono once again firing a blank. big Dan was late serving and early
leaving with a blown calf . So had a go between the sticks along with another crock In Forbsie
(perhaps they should train like those elite athletes in the 45+ grade, ) Pete faithfully nominated
himself as pod being manager, ref, go to guy and generally just being a nice guy.
Masters Gerries lost as well at Sunnyvale being a bit short. 1-0 down at h/t
Justin had a stint in goals kept the score down to 0-3 Jeff Bell in his first game getting mom.
Old Masters played Roslyn Moas which was played In good spirits apart from the last
stanza when a resurgent Moa got sniff of an unlikely comeback . Being 3/0 up thanks to a dribbly
Greg goal ( as in it bounced 4 times before creeping over the line ) . BT scored a cracker ( but he
did miss an absolute bagful) and the last goal was a peach and pleasure to watch
as a dipping swerving curving volley found the corner. 3-1 was final score

Northern v GI Prems out at
Sunnyvale. Both teams had a lot to
prove with trying to distance from the
bottom.
Unfortunately things didn't go
to plan for us in the first 15 minutes
with conceding a couple of free kicks
outside the box GI made us pay by
scoring with both. The first one came
from a deflection and then scored
with a precise finish and the 2nd was
hit straight inside the far post.
It was always going to be tuff
to comeback from that as GI normally
defend pretty well. The rest of the
first half was pretty even but we
wasted another 1 on 1 with the
keeper.
2nd half was a much better
performance by the lads and we
pulled one back when Greg (on his
birthday) made good work out wide
beating his defender and put in a great cross for Hendo to score.
We put a lot of pressure on them in the last 20 minutes but couldn't get the
second, and GI added a third in injury time with a well taken goal. FT 3-1. Mom Greg

benefits to be derived from Dunedin hosting this world-wide event in Otago Stadium - we

It is easy to stand back and be cynical about large organisations like FIFA, but
we need to celebrate all the Good things that FIFA brings to the World.
FIFA is an agent for good in our global neighbourhood - Oceania - not only for football
development but increasing opportunities for progress in social welfare, education and
health
The World Cups are the pinnacle of elite achievement, but there is so much more
happening at the base of the pyramid, the Grassroots of the Game. The NZF/Federations

Womens Football
Dunedin Tech Premier woman were out on a very
cold and windy Logan park on Sunday to play University
Women.. The girls started strongly and were one up in
the first minute with a goal from Chelsea back from the
States. The wind got stronger and Varsity playing into
the wind managed to get one back and that’s how the
first half ended 1-1.
Tech started strong in the second half going 21 up in the 46th minute with a goal from Georgia Brown
who worked hard in the midfield. Then Varsity pulled
one more back to make it 2-2. The fitness, wind and
composure started to go Tech’s way with three more
goals to make the final score 5-2 to Tech. POD Coral

The Roslyn Women Prems took on
Queenstown this week on a beautiful Ellis Park. In a game in which we looked to bounce back
from previous weeks, we put out a strong team, with returning Captain Jordyn Walker and our little
pocket rocket Sammy Murrell. 20 minutes into the game Sammy put one in the back of the old
onion bag, we kept the 1-0 lead till half time. The girls weren't having the greatest game and that
showed, 3 minutes into the second half Queenstown brought the score to 1 - 1. The girls went
back to work, trying to get back to the old ways of passing the ball and building the play up, this
paid off with Player of the Day Una Madden netting a close range goal. 2-1 with 15 to go
Queenstown scored off a free kick, 2 - 2 it stayed, sadly we only took the one point away but the
season is long and our girls will come back from this. Next week we have yet to find out our
opponents but sure to be a good game

Whites played Balclutha in Balclutha and while the whether wasn't that flash neither were we.
Two down at the half to a side who had played better than us and although we had the wind in the
second half we couldn't pull anything back. Good performances in the middle of the park with
Carina and Esti. Kelsey played well up front with POD to Janet on the left. We won't mention the

100 Football Festivals in NZ !
Auckland and Christchurch were the host cities for
two Grassroots Coaching Courses as FIFA’s Legacy
Program for the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand
2015 got underway.
A total of 35 coach educators from all seven
New Zealand Football Federations took part in the
courses and included two Grassroots Festivals
involving more than 240 children at Auckland’s
Henderson Valley Primary School and Christchurch’s
St. Albans Primary School.
FIFA Instructor Mauricio Marques, who has an extensive background in Futsal
and is Head of Coach Education for football’s governing body in Brazil, the CBF, was
delighted by the spontaneity shown by the children during the festival.
“The coach educators proposed to the children to play without shoes and the
response was tremendous. All the boys and girls took their shoes off and had a more
sensitive touch on the ball and the natural grass field. They had a great time and it all
happened spontaneously,” he said.
New Zealand Football Junior Development Manager Owain Prosser said while
fun was the focus for the children, the participating coaches took the opportunity to plan
100 other festivals that will happen in each of the Host Cities of the FIFA U-20 World
Cup New Zealand 2015.
Special festivals for girls will happen on 6 June when the Football Ferns open
their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign in Edmonton against the Netherlands.
“The FIFA Grassroots Football Festivals are a fantastic opportunity for New
Zealand Football to continue to grow the game, by engaging new children in football,
providing positive experiences and helping them fall in love with the game.
“It has also been very successful at developing New Zealand’s grassroots
coaches, providing the knowledge and empowering them to develop their players,
volunteers and clubs in
their local community,”
Prosser said.
Auckland and
Christchurch will each
host nine matches
featuring teams such as
New Zealand, Ukraine,
United States, Germany,
Honduras, Fiji,
Uzbekistan and Brazil.
The FIFA U20 Final is
scheduled for Saturday
20 June at the same
venue with a 5pm NZST
kick-off.

Goalscorers plus Abbo...
A big weekend of football for the Teams at Dunedin Technical with 3 teams playing away
at Ellis Park.
The Premier men were hoping to bring back some silverware from Ellis Park
which was lost to Roslyn last season and with that there would also be three valuable
points. Aaron had good squad of players to choose from despite no training on
Thursday due to the weather. It was a bit of a see saw game but the Premier men rode
the storm despite a few niggles here and there, final score 4-2 win to Tech.
Richards Fletcher cup boys were early at Ellis Park in which was game that
was without it’s drama. Thehttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
teams were locked at 1-1 when Tech keeper Liam was taken
out in the box when he clearly
had the ball in both hands as the video shows.
http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
Unfortunately to the disbelief of both teams the incident was missed and Roslyn
begrudgingly netted a goal to go 2-1 up at halftime.
The second half went down hill
from here with Kai ending up at ED
with what was thought to be a fracture
and some not so nice verbal
comments meant for an ugly second
half. Tech managed to pull one back to
make the final score 2-2
Craig’s 3rds had a game of
two halves which saw his teamed
pumped up at the start and very flat at
the end. The boys were 4-1 up at half
time and looked to be sailing to victory
but the game changed in the second
half when Roslyn pulled one back to
be 4-2 then 5-2 to Tech then 5-3,5-4Page 29
5-5 Tech had a chance to
sneak in a winner right at the
end but it was not to be and
the final score 5-5 and a very
deflated coach and team.
Stu’s 4ths continue
to struggle and some late
withdrawals due to illness and
injuries meant that Stu was
scraping for the bear 11 to
start This obviously meant
some late positional changes
and tactics but it was all to
little to late going down 4-0.
Did Andy score ?
The Tech Scarfie
5ths continued to grow as a
team and play some good football only losing one so far this season. Final score was 33. The young 5ths are taking some
hard knocks in lessons of Senior
football this season but all this will
help with their development. Each
week they train and turn up on
Saturdays to make their coach Phil
proud of his team. Unfortunately
the results have not gone their way
this season despite some strong
displays and again went down 4-0
to Roslyn.
In the Masters grades the
Colts were looking forward to a
torrid battle against the Hobbits at the Oval. The Colts going into the game sitting top with
the Hobbits back in 4th The scene was set for what could be a turnaround season for the
Colts. The game was even for the first 20 minutes with both teams having chances. The
Hobbits broke through first to lead 1-0 at halftime. The Colts still had a chance but going
down 2-0 with 15 minutes to go seem to deflate them a little. Then the Colts pulled one
back from a one/two with Richard and Callum to make it 2-1 with 10 to go. Despite some
strong pressure in the Hobbits goal box the score never changed and 2-1 was the final
score POD Shane Mathews.
The Frotters were also out at Ellis park on number 4. Unfortunately when you
score 3 own goals it is going to be a tough day at the office. LT was humbles in his
speeches and is now the top scorer for the Frotters albeit in his own net. POD LT
Dunedin Tech would like to pass on it’s condolences to the Family friends and

FIFA Womens Coaching Workshop
Capital Football Federation played host to the recent
FIFA Womens Coaching Workshop from Saturday
16th May to Wednesday 21st May. The workshop was
led by Brisbane Roars W-League side Head Coach
Belinda Wilson, pic right.
Football Souths Women’s Development Officer
Hayley Stirling attended the workshop and took plenty
of learning and networking from the event. “The week
was a fantastic opportunity to get together with other
female coaches around the country to share our past
and present coaching experiences,’ she said.
It was especially beneficial to share ideas and
Belinda
thoughts regarding the National Women’s League
teams we have been involved with. I’m confident the league will continue to produce
players and coaches capable of performing on the national and international stage and
workshops like these will go along way to ensure thats the case.
Belinda’s leadership and insight of her football knowledge and footballl
experiences as a FIFA instructor and Head Coach have given all of the candidates
involved a real sense of what can be achieved with the right application of hard work and
commitment.”
The workshop gave candidates an opportunity to be involved in analyzing games
to find the football problem, defining and designing the training session and delivering
the training during the practical component of the workshop. There was also significant
emphasis and time put on each candidates playing model, playing philosophy and
playing principles.
“Belinda was fantastic in really asking the right questions to make us think
about our playing models. As coaches, it’s so
easy to forget to really define your team’s
playing model and style, so it’s been
refreshing to look within ourselves to challenge
why we are doing what we do with our players
and to find areas where we can evolve our
playing model.
The detail involved with the playing
model and session planning Belinda took us
through was outstanding and thats certainly
what I’m aspiring towards.”
16 Female candidates and 2 male
candidates were in attendance for the
workshop which included two former Football
Ferns in Kristy Hill and Jenny Bindon.
All candidates were involved in either
National Women’s League teams, NTC
coaching and FTC coaching.

Varsity met the high flying plainsmen on the
Caledonian ground hoping for a strong defensive
effort to frustrate the free scoring visitors.
With injuries keeping 2 varsity centre
backs on the side-lines Tom Morley slipped back
into a 5 man defensive unit from midfield. Sadly
any hopes for a protracted stalemate went out of
the window within 10 minutes when mosgiel
opened the scoring with a fine controlled chip
finish.
With the defensive plan in tatters the
varsity side lost their way and defensive frailties
and errors were ruthlessly punished resulting in
a second and 3rd goal and a 3-0 halftime score.
The second half saw a structural change
and with it a new team emerged to bring the game
to mosgiel. Jeremy Fong pulled one back with one
of the
finest
finishes you will likely see on the Caledonian
ground, a first time rocket into the mosgiel

top corner.
http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/
This led to a short period of intense
pressure from the home side before Eder
Franchini decided to replicate the feat with a
only slightly less impressive piledriver into
the top corner of the varsity goal effectively
ending the contest.
Fong found
the net again later on with a good finish
deceiving the keeper bringing the score to
5-2 and some consolation to the varsity
team.
A vastly improved 2nd half from the
university team and encouraging for the
rounds to come but the 1st half damage was
too much to recover from. MoM for
University shared between Jeremy Fong for
his 2 goals and Seb Brown for his
tireless running.
