Ag teacht ó theaghlach a bhí an-bháiúil ar
an dteanga dúchais, chuir sí spéis mhór sa
Ghaolainn agus í an-óg. D’fhreastail sí ar
Ollscoil na hÉireann Maigh Nuad, áit a bhain
sí B.A. amach sa Ghaeilge agus sa Tíreolaíocht,
Ard-Teastas san Oideachas agus M.A. sa
Ghaeilge.
Tá réimse leathan taithí aici ag múineadh
ag an dara agus an tríú leibhéal. Mhúin sí
Gaeilge agus Tíreolaíocht ag an uile leibhéal
i gColáiste Áth a’ Chóiste, áit a raibh sí ina
múinteoir Chúram Speisialta agus Príomhoide
Cúnta. I measc na bhfreagrachtaí a bhí uirthi,
bhí sí ina comhordaitheoir ar chúrsaí Pleanála
Forbartha Scoile, ar chursaí teangan agus ar
chúrsaí tréadchúraim. Thug sí blianta fada ag
múineadh i Roinn na Gaeilge i gColáiste na
hOllscoile Chorcaí agus in Ionad na Gaeilge
Labhartha ann. D’fhoilsigh sí an leabhar
Scéalta agus Seanchas Phádraig Uí Ghrífín,

Extra curricular activities
Tuigimid, i nGaelcholáiste Charraig Uí
Leighin, a thábhachtaí is atá forbairt fhisiciúil,
shóisialta agus mhaoithneach an duine
óig, agus chomh mór is a shaibhríonn sí an
fhoghlaim. Molaimid rannphairtíocht na
ndaltaí i réimse leathan gníomhaíochtaí
spóirt, ceoil, ealaíne, cultúrtha agus aruile.
Cuirimid béim ar rannpháirtiocht, comhoibriú
agus féinfhoghlaim sna himeachtaí uile a
chuirtear ar fáil. Tugtar tús aite d’imeachtaí
cultúrtha na hÉireann, ar aon dul le héiteas na
scoile.
At Gaelcholásite Charraig Uí Leighin, we
believe that physical, mental, social and
emotional development is central to
the growth of the person, and enriches
learning. We expect, support and encourage
participation in a broad range of sporting,
musical, artistic and cultural activities. We
emphasise participation, co-operation and
independent learning in all activities offered.
Priority is given to Irish cultural activities in
keeping with our school ethos.
Cork Education and Training Board have
announced the appointment of Áine-Máire
Ní Fhaoláin as Principal of Gaelcholásite
Charraig Uí Leighin. Originally from Co. Laoise,
Áine-Máire has spent many years living and
working in Cork. Coming from a family with
a great love of the Irish language, she was
passionate about the Irish language from a
young age. She studied at NUI Maynooth,
where she graduated with a B.A. (Hons.) in
Irish and Geography, a Higher Diploma in
Education (Hons.) and a M.A. (Hons.) in Irish.
Áine-Máire brings a wealth of teaching,
administrative and leadership experience
to her new role having taught extensively
at both second and third level. She taught
for over twenty years at Coachford College,
where she also served as Special Duties
teacher and Assistant Principal. Amongst
her responsibilities were the co-ordination
of School Development Planning, language
programmes and pastoral care. She lectured
on undergraduate programmes for many
years in the Irish Department at University

Tá taithí fhairsing aici ag tréanáil agus ag
meantóireacht ábhair oidí agus múinteoirí
nua-cheaptha. D’oibrigh sí go dlúth leis na
coláistí tréanála ag cur cúsaí teangan ar fáil
d’ábhair múinteoirí. Bhí sí ina Príomhoide ar
chúsaí samhraidh Gaeltachta d’ábhair oidí ar
feadh roinnt blianta.
Tá spéis ar leith aici sa tumoideachas, sa bhuíon
teagaisc agus is céimí í sa Cheannaireacht
Teagaisc. Tá sí pósta agus tá clann mhic uirthi.
Tugann sí roinnt mhaith ama thiar i nGaeltacht
Chorca Dhuibhne nuair a ligeann an t-am do.
College Cork, and also taught at the Centre
for Spoken Irish there. Her book Scéalta agus
Seanchas Phádraig Uí Ghrifín, a linguistic
study of West Kerry dialect, is recommended
reading in a number of Irish universities.
Áine-Máire has vast experience in the
training and mentoring of student and
newly-appointed teachers. She has worked
extensively with the teacher-training colleges
in the provision of language courses, and
was Principal of student-teacher summer
Gaeltacht programmes for many years.
She has a particular interest in immersion
education, in team-teaching and is a recent
graduate in Instructional Leadership. She is
married with two sons, and enjoys spending
time in the West Kerry Gaeltacht.

dom ár scoil nua a chur os do chómhair, agus
éiteas agus sainmheon na scoile a roinnt ort.
It is a great honour for me to be appointed
as the first Principal of Gaelcholáiste Charraig
Uí Leighin. I am delighted to introduce you
to our school, and to share our ethos and
aspirations with you.
