25 March 2015 UPCOMING WORKS: NORTHERN ZONE Leach Hwy and Tonkin Hwy, Cloverdale and Redcliffe Continuing throughout April 2015 Following on from the realignment of traffic onto the recently constructed Tonkin Highway carriageways in the vicinity of Leach Highway, work will be commencing in the area previously occupied by the Tonkin Highway / Leach Highway intersection. Earthworks, pavement construction and progression of structures work will be ongoing to form the remaining ramps as part of the Grand Gateway interchange. With some traffic moved off the ramp that carries Leach Highway eastbound traffic onto the Tonkin Highway northbound carriageway, finishing work such as barrier construction will be able to progress. This will be followed by Principal Shared Path (PSP) formation through this section of the interchange. PSP construction will also be progressing on the southern side of this interchange. > Construction of road pavement, involving delivery, placement and compaction of sub-base material and laying asphalt for the interchange ramps > PSP construction including pavement construction and asphalting > Permanent barrier construction and finishing works including lighting and kerbing > Steel fixing, concrete pours and delivery of materials for the construction of final interchange structures and urban design / art features. The construction of the new Tonkin Highway / Dunreath Drive interchange adjacent to Redcliffe Park continues to progress at a rapid pace, with the team continuing the asphalting of the ultimate northbound carriageway and the ramps on the western side during April. Works will continue nearby Great Eastern Highway to connect the upgraded section of the highway into the existing, along with construction of the PSP north of the new bridge up to Stanton Road footbridge. Finishing works will also continue in the vicinity of the Tonkin Highway / Dunreath Drive interchange and along Tonkin Highway during the month, with the painting of a public art piece on the bridge retaining wall adjacent to Redcliffe Park expected to get underway. Upcoming work details LEACH HIGHWAY BETWEEN FISHER STREET AND TONKIN HIGHWAY TONKIN HIGHWAY BETWEEN FAWCETT CRESCENT AND TERELINCK CRESCENT Works to be undertaken in the vicinity of these areas during this period include: > Delivery and movement of construction materials and earthworks to import and move fill material to form the remaining interchange ramps and remove the redundant intersection Aerial photographs of the Tonkin Highway / Leach Highway intersection taken in late March just prior to the layout modifications being implemented. Reference: GWA-NZ-COR-0145 TONKIN HIGHWAY BETWEEN TERELINCK CRESCENT AND GREAT EASTERN HIGHWAY Works to be undertaken in the vicinity of these areas during this period include: > Delivery and movement of construction materials and earthworks to import and remove fill material, particularly along the western side of the highway > Construction of road pavement, involving delivery, placement and compaction of sub-base material and laying asphalt for the ultimate northbound lanes and interchange ramps > PSP construction, involving pavement construction and asphalting, along the western side of the highway between the new bridge and Stanton Road footbridge > Steel fixing, concrete pours and delivery and lifting of precast parapets and other materials for the construction of the new interchange structure Aerial photograph of the new Tonkin Highway / Dunreath Drive interchange taken in late March. > Duoceptor installation within the road reserve between the Tonkin Highway southbound off-ramp to Great Eastern Highway and Locock Street in Ascot > Painting of the new Tonkin Highway / Dunreath Drive intersection bridge, including a mural on the western side adjacent to Redcliffe Park. ACROSS THE NORTHERN ZONE > Investigative activities including service location / potholing and survey > Adjustment of traffic barriers, changes to signage and line marking and realignment of traffic to create safe work areas and complete newly constructed areas > Installation of services, including road network drainage, street lighting, permanent Variable Message Boards and telecommunications > Finishing works, including signage and steel and concrete installation, painting of bridge structures and kerbing > Landscaping activities, including the delivery and spreading of mulch. Changed traffic conditions Changed traffic conditions will be in place while some of these works are underway, including a reduced speed limit and lane closures. Signage will be in place to guide motorists through any changed traffic conditions. Motorists are encouraged to factor additional time into their journey. Working hours Work in the Northern Zone will be carried out Monday to Saturday day shift (between 7am and 7pm) and Monday to Friday night shift (between 7pm and 5am), excluding public holidays. There may also be occasional weekend work required outside of these times. Emergency maintenance and repair work may also need to take place outside of these times. Gateway WA recognises the impact out of hours works may have on local residents and will make every effort to minimise disruption. Asphalting of the ultimate Tonkin Highway northbound lanes between Terelinck Crescent and Great Eastern Highway started in March and will continue throughout April. CREATING AN ICONIC GATEWAY TO WA The road network around the Perth Airport and Kewdale industrial precinct is continually changing as the Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project progressively transforms the area to its ultimate arrangement.
