Did you know Saturday, June 13 is National Get Outdoors Day? What a great time for G on one of their many outdoor related badges. For example, Brownie's Hiker Badge, Jun Badge or Cadette's Trailblazing Badge. Coming in June, Girl Scouts will offer five new badges: Brownie: Outdoor Adventurer (a choice of outdoor activities, including things like developing a camp skill, and more) Junior: Horseback Riding Cadette: Archery Senior: Paddling (canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boarding) Ambassador: Ultimate Recreation Challenge (a choice five outdoor challenges su waterskiing, and more Staying connected with your girls throughout the summer with outdoor activities benefits connection with their sister Girl Scouts, they look forward to the next membership year, Scouts. With the weather in Idaho, we are also limited to how many months we have of weather that is ideal for some of these badges. It can be difficult to find bugs for the Bro winter. Lastly, being outside builds immune systems, provides exercise, stimulates ima solving skills and provides vitamin D. We have programs just for them. Cadettes can help plan a program for younger girls and Seniors/Ambassadors can help run a troop for younger girls. We were very excited this year to pilot our first Daisy troop ran by our teen Girl Scouts. This helped us with the girls waiting for a troop. We are looking for troops that would be interested in this opportunity for the fall. This not only helps us serve more girls, but is a great leadership experience for the teens. Scouting Stars SW Idaho (Greater Treasure Valley and Surroundin Scouting Stars is an event that recognizes Girl Scouts and volunteers who have demonstrated extraordinary vision, achievement, and leadership. Honorees are communitycentered individuals who exemplify the key qualities of Girl Scouting Courage, Confidence, and Character. This year we've added a quality, Caring. Scouting Stars honorees will be recognized at an event on July 28, 2015 in Boise. Nomination Criteria for Girls Decisions will be based on four categories: Courage, Confidence, Character and Caring one of the following characteristics: Courage: Nominees show courage by pioneering in an untraditional field, beat extraordin or speak the truth even when it's unpopular. Confidence: Nominees conduct themselves with selfassurance, strength, grace, and ta into arrogance. Character or Caring: Nominees demonstrate moral and ethical strength, show leadersh consistently known for doing the right thing. Scouting Stars Nominating Procedures Any individual or group may nominate one or more candidates. Candidates must live within the Greater Treasure Valley area (Boise, Nampa, Ca Payette, etc.). Other criteria includes: Current Girl Scout, Cadette level or higher, have earned Bronze Award or higher and has demonstrated Courage, Confidence Complete the nomination form completely and legibly.
