TIME
8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
FEES
With recommendation of their Guidance Counselor or Principal,
students needing academic intervention will have their tuition waived
for recommended courses. The fees for courses will not be waived if
they are taken for enrichment, in which case the Early Bird fee
(by Friday, May 29th) is $985. On or after May 29th, the fee for 3
courses increases to the regular rate of $1,160.
Students may also register for enrichment courses to complete their
3-period schedule (see separate brochure), which will be prorated at
$328 per course for the early bird (by Friday, May 29). Registration
postmarked after May 29th will result in a prorate of $387 per course.
LOCATION
All classes are held at South Middle School, 349 Lakeville Road.
TRANSPORTATION
The school district will provide transportation before period 1
and after period 3 only. Schedule available online.
ELIGIBILITY
Any student who will be entering grade 6, 7, 8 or 9 in September 2015,
and whose legal address is within the Great Neck School District,
will be eligible for the Academic Intervention Program, with the
recommendation of their Guidance Counselor or Principal. Students
entering grade 6 in September 2015 should have the recommendation
of their Elementary School Principal.
REGISTRATION
Please fill out the enclosed application form and return it by mail.
There is no “in person” registration.
COURSE
REQUIREMENTS
Students will be graded on their academic performance. Grades will
be sent to the appropriate guidance counselors. Attendance from July 6
through August 6, 2015 is mandatory. After six consecutive days of
absence, the student will be dropped from the course.
Please note that times and course offerings are subject to change based on enrollment.

SOCIAL STUDIES 6
For incoming 6th graders; Introduction to geography, map
reading, and the world.
AMERICAN HISTORY 7
For students entering grade 7; American History through the
Civil War.
AMERICAN HISTORY 8
For students entering grade 8; Reconstruction to
present day history of the United States.
GLOBAL HISTORY
For students entering 9th grade; Understanding cultures of the
non-western world in their proper physical, historical, and
cultural setting.
ENGLISH 6
For incoming 6th graders.
ENGLISH 7
For students entering 7th grade.
ENGLISH 8
For students entering 8th grade.
ENGLISH 9
For students entering 9th grade.
MATH 6
For incoming 6th graders.
MATH 7
For incoming 7th graders.
MATH 8
For incoming 8th graders.
ALGEBRA
For incoming 9th graders; an introduction to H.S. level Algebra
and graphing calculator skills.
WILSON READING
PROGRAM
Students will learn the fundamentals of reading through Phonics.
(Upon recommendation from classroom teacher or guidance counselor).
POWER THROUGH
READING 6
Incoming 6th graders will receive support in vocabulary,
comprehension, study skills, and note taking. Emphasis on skills
required to pass the rigorous NY State assessment.
POWER THROUGH
READING 7
Incoming 7th graders will develop necessary reading fundamentals
study skills and strategies to meet NYS standards. Emphasis on skills
required to pass the rigorous NY State assessment.
POWER THROUGH
READING 8
Incoming 8th grade students will receive support in vocabulary
and reading comprehension. Emphasis on skills required to pass the
rigorous NY State assessment.
SCIENCE 6
For incoming 6th graders.
SCIENCE 7
For incoming 7th graders.
SCIENCE 8
For incoming 8th graders.
SCIENCE 9
For incoming 9th graders.
ESL (K-1)
English for speakers of other languages.
ESL (GRADES 2-3)
