A
ngelia Forby-Manuel earned
a bachelor's degree in
Social Work from East
Tennessee State University
in 1991, became a Licensed
Baccalaureate of Social Work by the State
of Tennessee in 2011, and completed
a master's degree in Human Services,
Marriage and Family herapy, from Liberty
University, in 2013.
Manuel has served as director of the
Greeneville City Schools Family Support
Center since 1993. In this position, she
coordinates services for families of at-risk
students, and serves as the school system's
Homeless Liaison and Migrant/Immigrant
Coordinator. She is also a staff writer for
AHERNews.
She has served in many positions with
Full Gospel Mission, Inc., including Church
Board of Directors, Council Secretary,
Youth Leader, and Worship Dance Team
Leader. In 2012, she established Women of
Worship, a women's ministry that seeks to
equip women by providing opportunities
for personal and spiritual growth while
deepening their walk with God and
building networks among women within
the community of Christ.
Manuel serves on the Foster Care Review
Board of Greene County and as secretary for
African American Health Education Religion
and News, Inc., and is the chairperson of the
Fannye M. Jones Scholarship.
She is also a member of the Northeast
Tennessee Council on Children and Youth,
and of the Appalachian Regional Coalition
for Homelessness. She serves on the board
of trustees for the Greeneville City Schools
Education Foundation and is a member of
the Greeneville City Schools Diversity Team.
Her many past positions include Education
Committee Chairperson for the Nathanael
Greene Museum (now Greeneville-Greene
County History Museum) Board of Directors,
vice-president of the Niswonger Performing
Arts Council Advisory Board, chairperson of
the Greene County Habitat for Humanity
Board of Directors Selection Committee,
and secretary of the Greeneville Education
Association, and the Contact Ministries 211
Board of Directors.
Manuel received an award of Special
Recognition for the Women on the
Frontline Ministry of Open Door Full
Gospel Ministries in 2012 and was named
a Champion for Children by Greeneville
City Schools in 2008-2009.
Angelia is married to Lieutenant
Commander Walter Manuel, U.S. Navy,
and is the mother of Mauriel Rodriguez,
who is pursuing her master's degree in
teaching; Alexandria Rodriguez, who is
pursuing her master's degree in music
journalism; and Isaiah Manuel, who is
pursuing a degree in computer science
and serving in the United States Marine
Corps Reserves.
Her nominator wrote, “She is a very
positive role model for the youth of the
community, often reaching across racial
and cultural barriers … Her desire to
make her community and the world
a better place to live, is evident in her
involvement with some of the boards she
serves on. …
“Angelia once quoted that, 'If I can
touch the life of one child, or facilitate
change for one family, then my living will
have not been in vain.'”
