TOGETHER WE INSPIRE HOPE AND TRANSFORM LIVES Clara’s Kids HALE HOUSE CENTER NEWSLETTER • WINTER 2015 HOLIDAYS AT HALE HOUSE Thanks for the holiday generosity Bringing Joy to Our Children Storytime with former mayor giuliani What has come to be a long-standing holiday tradition, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani visited the children of the Mother Hale Learning Center on December 19. During his 21st annual visit to Hale House, he read a spirited rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” before handing out gifts he brought for each of the children. It’s an event our kids look forward to each year and we can’t thank Mayor Giuliani and his staff enough for taking the time to visit and spread a little holiday cheer! A celebration of diversity The week prior to Giuliani’s visit, the children had a festivity of their own to celebrate the many holidays that take place around this time of year. During the annual Multicultural Festival the kids participated in activities and sang songs to learn more about a number of holidays, including Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah and Diwali! During this holiday season, Hale House Center received an outpouring of love and support from our donors and the local community during our Toy Drive. Gifts collected brought lots of holiday spirit and plenty of smiles to all the children and their families in our Supportive Transitional Housing Program. Our sincere thanks to all of this year’s toy drive donors for their generosity, and special recognition to our participating companies and organizations: Bronx Preparatory Charter School, Columbia University -- Government and Community Affairs, and King + Company. We’d also like to thank Fairway Market and Whole Foods who again this year provided all the food for each of our supportive housing families to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal. They were delighted to be able to cook their own feast! WINTER 2015 • HALE HOUSE CENTER a note from our executive director Dear Friends, Between our Multicultural Festival, Mayor Giuliani’s annual visit, and toy and food drives, the holidays are always a busy time at Hale House with much to celebrate. This season also offered ANNIE MURPHY us a chance to reflect on the numerous lives of children and families we’ve been able to touch through our Supportive Transitional Housing Program – which turned 10 in December. This program has allowed us to continue Mother Hale’s vision of keeping families together through their toughest challenges, and it has been a resounding success. The love, stability, and support provided by our staff ensures that once families leave our doors, they are prepared for success. It fills us with enormous pride to share one recent success story of a family’s journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Please see the story below, which would not have been possible without the help of our donors.
