On Wednesday, February 11th the Early Head Start/Head Start/Pre-K Family Service staff hosted
the monthly Parent Meeting and Red, Pink, & White Extravaganza spearheaded by Family
Service Advocates, Shontorial Gilbert and Rakyah Washington and the following Parent Activity
Committee Members: Elexis Manson (President), Tiffany Bryant, Barbara Reynolds, Shaneika
Hillman, Lashenia Lewis, Gladys Jones, Sophial Ivey, Catrice Tucker, and Gabriel Reid. Rakyah
Washington was the hostess for the extravagant evening. Mrs. Evans’ and Mrs. Ashley’s Pre-K
Class opened the meeting with a lovely welcome followed by a brief WellCare Services
presentation by Mr. Anthony Hill, WellCare Representative. Next, Parent Involvement
Coordinator (M.E. Lewis Elementary), Mr. Linton Ingram provided the parents with Influenza
Facts. After Program Updates were given by the staff, all the wonderful entertainment began!
The Mother & Daughters of Praise, under the direction of Head Start’s very own Ms. Shanquitta
Thomas, performed a rhythmic dance, and Mr. Marlon Washington, our newest addition to the
Pre-K teaching staff, filled the gymnasium with a melodic song. After, families rushed to the
dance floor to compete in the Mother & Son Dance-Off and Father & Daughter Dance-Off. The
atmosphere was filled with laughter and creativity as participants moved to the beat. Throughout
the event parents and children indulged in tasty refreshments and ice cold punch. Dr. Angela
Primus, Head Start Director stated, “There are no words to explain how my heart dropped as I
saw all the children and families dressed in such fashionable attire.”
Congratulations to our Mother & Son Dance-Off winners, Amir Gross and Tiffany Gross and our
Father & Son Dance-Off winners, Zaniyah Glover and Sebreal Taylor. The female winners won
a FREE wash and wrap from T-N-T Hair Salon of Sparta, GA, and male winners won a FREE
haircut from Rahaan Reynolds, local barber of Sparta, GA. All winners also received certificates
of achievement designed by Rakyah Washington. On behalf of the Director, Dr. Angela Primus,
and Assistant Director, Cynthia Poole, the Family Service Advocates and Parent Activity
Committee would like to recognize the following individuals for their hard work and
