Havana Club Unión is a truly unique
rum, deeply rooted in Cuban culture and
heritage, and crafted to perfectly match
the full-bodied flavour of Cuba’s other
prestigious brand, Cohiba cigars.
Cuban rum and cigars are among the world’s most revered
luxuries. They are also two of Cuba’s most celebrated
products, both born from the same exceptional climate
and fertile terrain and deeply rooted in Cuban culture and
heritage. The similarities between the two do not end there.
With their shared origin and rich, mutual heritage, Cuban
rum and cigars are natural partners. Havana Club Unión is
inspired by the Cuban practice of ‘Sobremesa’ – meaning
‘over the table’ - whereby a quality rum is passed around
the table after dinner, enjoyed with a fine Cuban cigar and
stimulating conversation amongst friends.
Both rum and cigars are created in their own unique way
by a master dedicated to his craft. Just as fine Cuban
rum can only be created by a Maestro Ronero - who has
learnt the delicate art of rum making from generations of
Maestros Roneros before him - a cigar of true quality is the
accomplishment of a Cigar Master. Just as a Maestro Ronero
crafts rum from a selection of ‘bases’ – catalogued reserves
of aged spirit, each with its own special character, providing
roundness, complexity or structure – a Cigar Master creates
a cigar using a balance of three types of tobacco leaves: seco
(for aroma), ligero (for strength) and volado (for combustion).
The exquisitely rich and complex Havana Club Unión
is the result of an innovative collaboration between two
of the industries’ most passionate characters – Havana
Club’s Maestro Ronero, Asbel Morales, and Cuba’s
most renowned Cigar Master and Sommelier, Fernando
Fernandez Millan.
The work involved Asbel preparing different blends of
rare rum reserves before the pair selected and adjusted
them to form a final blend that perfectly matches the
beautifully smooth and powerful flavour of the classic
Cohiba Siglo VI cigar.
Bottled at 40% ABV, Havana Club Unión has an
impressive deep amber glow and includes all the
traditional characteristics for which Havana Club is
renowned. However, its complexity, sweetness and
intensity have taken these characteristics to a completely
different level. The rich aroma of this opulently silky
liquid balances oak and smoke with subtle tones of citrus,
coconut, dried fruits and coffee. Softly woody on the
palate, Havana Club Unión is accented with sweet vanilla,
chocolate and dried fruit flavours and has a very rich
aromatic finish.
