Job Description: Program Manager
Organization: Heart Math Tutoring seeks to ensure that all elementary students develop a strong foundation
in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success by leveraging volunteers as tutors.
Teachers in high-poverty elementary schools recommend students in grades 1 – 5 who are performing below
grade level in math. Community members commit one hour per week to tutor students using Heart’s
effective, hands-on curriculum and receive on-site support from Heart’s Program Coordinator. In 2015/16,
Heart intends to operate in eight schools, serving 50 students per school in grades 1 – 5.
Job Description: Heart provides a high level of quality and responsiveness to students, volunteers, and school
staff. This is done in a variety of ways including placing an on-site Program Coordinator at each school and
regular conversation and data-sharing with school administration. The Program Manager will oversee the dayto-day operations of Heart’s eight school sites in 2015/16 through managing Program Coordinators,
stewarding relationships with school administrations, and analyzing program quality and efficacy.
The Program Manager will work with the Heart Team towards achieving these student outcomes:
 Student Academic Growth - 100% of students show growth in two or more assessed foundational
math concept areas between September and May
 Growth in Student Confidence/Enthusiasm - 100% of teachers believe students show an increase in
confidence and/or enthusiasm towards math as a result of Heart Math Tutoring.
Responsibilities:
 Manage, train, and coach Program Coordinators (8) – Responsibilities include observing tutoring
sessions, providing regular coaching and check-ins with Program Coordinators concerning goals and
outcomes, and providing ongoing hands-on support, as necessary. Program Coordinators are 18 hr/wk
employees each dedicated to a single school site where he/she assesses students and monitors
instruction, provides ongoing support to tutors, and communicates with teachers and school staff.
 Steward relationship with School Administration – Ensure that Heart is a valued, integral partner at
each school by leading quarterly check-ins with Principals and Math Facilitators, soliciting and
responding to feedback, providing helpful data, being a collaborative partner to other school partners
and staff, and anything else contributing towards Heart’s mission and school relationships.
 Oversee Program Data Collection and Assessments – Oversight includes pre- and post- math
assessments; volunteer and teacher surveys; quarterly progress reports to teachers; program
summaries to principals; and various operational data needed for program improvements, fundraising,
and partnerships. Identify and troubleshoot issues.
 Provide Tutor Support (Monthly Newsletter), working with Coordinators and other Heart staff.
 Oversee Parent Engagement Events, executed primarily by Program Coordinators, and any other
program-related events.
 Provide Team Leadership and Program Management, working very closely with Executive Director to
maintain, develop, and improve the program.
o Play a key role on HEART’s team in identifying operational strengths and troubleshooting
challenges, aiding the organization’s efforts to establish a strong, scalable program model.

Play a supporting role in volunteer recruitment and stewardship, initial program coordinator
training in 2015/16, curriculum revisions, curriculum procurement, program evaluation,
program growth, and fund development.
Represent Heart externally, and contribute to the organization’s culture of philanthropy.

learning phases and AMC. If this is an area of expertise, please indicate so in application materials.)
Experience analyzing and presenting data
Strong computer skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, email and contact management, CRM
tools, and file sharing systems
Desire to work with elementary-aged students
Interest in working in a start-up environment, which, though planned and strategic, also requires an
element of flexibility and creativity

Compensation - commensurate with experience
