T
he East Meadow chapter of the New York State Science Honor Society
will hold its eleventh annual induction ceremony on February 24, 2015.
Acceptance into this prestigious Honor Society shows that the student has
met rigorous requirements. The students must maintain an overall science average
of 90%, overall math average of 80%, and an overall scholastic average of 85%. Additional requirements include donating their time
for peer tutoring, being a member of an additional science club, and
assisting with fundraising for events such as Adopt-a-Family.
This year’s induction ceremony will begin with an opening speech
by Sanaa Khan, President of the Science Honor Society.
The induction will continue with a candle lighting ceremony conducted by the
board, President Sanaa Khan, Vice President Kerri Percoco, Treasurer Ayyan
Zubair, Event Manager Nicole Innvar and Secretaries David McGee and Joseph
Puciloski. Sixty new members will be inducted this year.
At the conclusion of the ceremony dinner and dessert will be served.

Science Honor Society Induction
Music Students Perform at Disney
S
eventy members of the EMHS Mixed Chorus was chosen to perform at
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida from Friday, February 6th
through Monday, February 9th based on the audition tape they submitted. This
was the first time that the Chorus has been invited to perform at Disney. They
gave a performance at Downtown Disney on Saturday afternoon, and on Sunday
were able to participate in a workshop with a professional musician from Disney. The chorus is under the direction of Ms. Caitlin Hale and Ms. Rachel Fogel. The Director of Music and Art Kathryn Behr, Chairperson Joel
Levy, teachers Jonathan Ross and Chris Hale, Assistant
Principal, Scott Woerner and School Nurse, Diane Groth
also attended this memorable event.

JUNIOR BANQUET
n Tuesday, February 3rd the East Meadow High School Juniors enjoyed a
banquet at the Milleridge Cottage in Jericho. The event was planned by the
class representatives, President, Victoria Bova, Vice-President Taylor Oommen, Secretary Kerry Jankowski, Treasurer Nikita Khosla and Co-Advisors Ms. AnneMarie Collins and Mr. Ryan Rochford.
Over one hundred and fifty students experienced an evening of good food and music. It
was a memorable and enjoyable evening for all.
BATTLE OF THE CLASSES
This year’s theme for Battle which will take place on Friday, February 27th is Movies. Class
of 2015 chose “Seniors Have the Last Laugh” as they present Comedy. Their Captains are
Nina Abate, Nikki Keicher, Justin Rivera & Johnny Wilson. Their Aerobics Coordinators are
Selena Calabrese, Cara DeMartin and Nicole Turnbull. Mural Coordinator is Raeqa
Mahmud.
Class of 2016 decided on Horror with “Jeepers Creepers It’s the Juniors” Megan Bener, Victoria Bova, Frankie Michelini and Richie Mollura are the captains. Aerobics Coordinators are
Savanna Gavan and Nicole McGuiness. Katelyn Benson, Crawford, Kyra Kraus and Daisy
Spencer are their Mural Coordinators.

Captains Nicole Leary, Isabella Oliverio, Anthony LaRosa & Dan Sparkowski will lead the
Class of 2017 into battle with their choice, Action with “Super Sophomores”. Aerobics Coordinators are Gabrielle Piccolo and Lauren Schiffer and Sienna Natale is the Mural Coordinator.
Class of 2018 will present Musicals as they chose “Fresh Beat Freshmen” led by Captains
Vittoria Fuduli, Jillian Lucito, Matthew MacKay and Anthony Turrisi. Aerobics Coordinators are Jill Kehlenback and Alexys Valdez.
The Advisors for Battle are Ms. Lisa Guerriero and Mr. Bryan Horrmann and this year’s emcee will be Justin Rivera. Months of preparation make up this exciting and enjoyable event
for all.
JUNIOR PARENTS COLLEGE PLANNING
C
ollege Planning Night will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to address the post high school college and career opportunities available to our students. Students and parents will gain
insight into the application process and the various types of admission plans
that colleges offer (Early Action, Early Decision, Rolling Admissions). Some
of the topics discussed include the SAT/ACT, what to look for in a college,
activities, and choosing a major.
Guidance Counselors will be available for questions after the information session.
