As part of Churches Together in Hexham we pray
for the people of Hexham Society of Friends (The
Quaker Meeting)
Within Hexham Deanery we pray for the parishes
of Greenhead and Haltwhistle and their Vicar, Revd
Neil Wilson
Within our Diocese we pray for the work of
Partners in Community Action and all who serve the
needs of communities that are struggling.
Within our Parish we pray for our Vergers, office
staff and all who look after and care for the Abbey.
We pray for our world, especially for the situations in
Syria, Tunisia, and for the new Israeli government.
We pray for all those who died or who lost loved
ones in the Germanwings plane crash.
For those who are unwell or who have asked for our
prayers including, Karen Wells, Elizabeth Clarke, Ken
Norton, Malcolm Hare, Edna O’Neil, Stan Batey,
Joyce Christie, Alice Yates and Br Damian SSF.
For those who have died and all those who mourn.

Palm Sunday
Welcome to the Abbey today as we gather for worship
and fellowship. Today we begin the journey of Holy
Week, acclaiming Jesus today as King then following
him on the road to the cross, the empty tomb and the joy
of the Easter resurrection. A warm welcome if you are
visiting today. During communion all are welcome to
come forward for bread and wine or a blessing – if for a
blessing simply keep your head bowed. We do hope
you can stay for refreshments in the South Transept
after Parish Eucharist.
 Junior Church please join the opening procession and you
will be guided to your group in the Priory Buildings.
 Sunday Tots (0-5) make your way to the Priory Buildings
through the Cloister Porch door during the first hymn.

Easter Vigil with kindling of the Easter fire and
First Eucharist of Easter
enter into the drama of the last week of Jesus’ life –
sharing his journey from the triumphal entry into
Jerusalem, to his death on the cross, and experiencing
again the shock of the empty tomb and the dawning joy
of his new Easter life. The Easter Triduum, beginning
with the Liturgy of Maundy Thursday, then the events of
Good Friday, the Saturday Easter Vigil and finally
Easter Day itself, takes us into the greatest mystery and
wonder of our faith. The Easter Vigil this year also
includes a celebration of the First Eucharist of Easter
and through readings, music, the lighting of the Easter
Fire and Pascal Candle and the joy of the Eucharist is a
moving and uplifting service with which Christians have
welcomed in Easter since the earliest of days. Although
it’s a late start, children may well enjoy this service! Do
come and be a part of The Great Week, through the
range of services at the Abbey and across all the
Hexham Churches. See leaflets for details.
CTiH Holy Week Gazebo – From Monday to
Thursday of Holy Week there will be a gazebo and stall
outside Hexham Abbey offering people a chance to talk,
to leave a prayer request and to be reminded of the
story of Easter.
A Special Thank You - To show our appreciation of
all the hard work that our retired clergy have undertaken
during the recent interregnum, we would like to invite the
congregation to contribute towards a gift which we will
present to them at the AGM on Sunday 26th April. If you
would like to make a donation, please leave your

Contemplative Prayer Group – Concludes this

Sung Responses to the Gospel
Bach
Lent Series: We conclude our Lenten
exploration of the organ music of J S Bach (1685-1750)
today with his Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542.
Composed between 1708 and 1717, the Fantasia
contains chromatic harmonies suggesting a later date
when 'well-tempered' tuning was more available. Bach
performed the Fugue (one of his most technicallydemanding) at his audition to become Organist of the
Jacobikirche, Hamburg, in 1720. Astonishingly, he didn't
get the post, and some believe this to be the work of
skullduggery by his then current employer, who didn't
want him to leave.
