Passive House-grade windows and doors, achieving total product U-values as low as .16
(NFRC)*.
There are numerous advantages to domestically manufactured Passive House
windows, including:

Our Passive House-grade tilt-turn window is built without the awkward bulkiness of typical Passive
House windows. By incorporating an overinsulation detail that provides additional frame insulation,
as well as fully concealed hinging, the window has both exceptional thermal performance and
unusually thin glass lines. With a slimmer profile and glass lines, our tilt-turn window is more in
tune with American building preferences.

Multipoint locking hardware allows the tilt-turn window to be built significantly larger than a
traditional casement window. Below is a summary of the size constraints:

Muntins and stops
Due to its negative impact on thermal performance, it is difficult to obtain Passive House
certification with a muntin grid pattern. Therefore, it is difficult to match a traditional-style window
aesthetic and still achieve Passive House certification. However, HH Windows & Doors has
come up with the prefect solution to this issue: wood muntins are applied to the glass interior and
exterior, with no internal glass spacer. This results only in shading and has a minimal effect on
overall thermal performance.







Plane of installation
Passive House windows are typically installed recessed into the wall, creating an insulating air
pocket around the exterior face of the window. However, our tilt-turn window can be installed
anywhere in the wall, thereby giving the builder great flexibility. For complete installation

Our Passive House-grade windows come with triple pane glass with an Argon gas fill and up
to three LoE coatings. The LoE coatings can be tailored for each individual window in order to
achieve the desired U-value and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC).

Screens
HH Windows & Doors manufactures optional removable screens to custom fit each window. The
screens have an aluminum frame and polyester mesh and sit flush with the exterior face of the
window.

1. Exterior jamb extensions: Jamb extensions
project outward from the edges of the window
frame, creating a transition between the window
and the casing. The jamb extension depth
depends on how far back into the wall the
window sits. If the window is recessed into the
wall, the jamb extension depth must be greater
in order to extend up to or past the exterior of
the wall.
2. Exterior sill: The exterior sill provides a path
for water to follow away from the window itself.
HH Windows & Doors manufactures both wood
and metal sills. The sill depth depends on how
far back into the wall the window sits. If the
window is recessed into the wall, the sill depth
must be greater in order to extend past the
exterior of the wall.
3. Sill rabbet cut: The sill rabbet cut is a
notch cut into the bottom rail of the window
frame to house the sill. Even if you choose to
attach your own sills, a rabbet cut is a good
weatherproofing detail.

Finishes
HH Windows & Doors offers a variety of finish options. Because of their high durability and
superior performance, HH Windows & Doors uses penetrating finishes as opposed to film forming
finishes. The result is an ultra low maintenance product that will last a lifetime.
Solid stain
Sikkens Rubbol
Rubbol is a water based, pigmented, solid color
stain that looks just like paint. Rubbol can be
custom matched to any color.
Advantages
Whereas paint forms a protective barrier over
the wood, the Rubbol solid stain penetrates the
wood, allowing it to expand and contract without
cracking or peeling. Most importantly, the Rubbol
solid stain does not trap moisture, allowing the
wood to breathe.
The result
A far superior, durable finish with minimal
maintenance required.

Semi-transparent stain
Sikkens Cetol
Cetol is a semi-transparent exterior finish
specially formulated to provide a water resistant
coating. A rich natural color and a unique alkyd/
oil layer protects against rain, snow and UV rays.

Engineered to serve as both a sealer and top
coat system, OmniGold provides outstanding

Aluminum cladding
HH Windows & Doors offers optional exterior aluminum cladding manufactured by Gutmann in
Germany. All cladding profiles are made from heavy duty aluminum extrusions and incorporate
back ventilation between the cladding and the exterior wood surface. Back ventilation prevents
trapped moisture and allows the wood to breathe, which is essential for the longevity of the
window.
