THANKSGIVING
The word “thanksgiving” most often calls to our mind the holiday in November. But as early as the middle of the second century Justin Martyr referred to the blessed bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper as “food we call ‘thanksgiving’ ” (in Greek eucharistia). The Thanksgiving we celebrate in the autumn is at times marked by a sort of proud societal self‑congratulation and the consumption of food until we sink into an inert stupor. The “thanksgiving” that we call our Eucharist is just the opposite: we are led to
it by an acknowledgment of our own failings; we remember our humble place in the scheme of things by giving praise to God
alone. While the food of Christ’s body and blood fills our spiritual hungers, it also creates in us a greater hunger. We are not sent
to our spiritual sofas to let the Lord’s Supper settle; we are sent to be living signs of that thanksgiving for the world by looking out
for the poor and powerless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, speaking out against the self‑righteous. In short, the hunger
created by our doing in remembrance of Christ must lead us to living in remembrance of him.

St. Mary’s Seminary Collection
This weekend on the Feast of Corpus Christi, the total offertory in every parish of the archdiocese is dedicated to the support of those studying for the priesthood.
We are asked to double the amount of our regular church
support for this weekend. Please do your part to help the
archdiocese provide priests for the sake of our future and
please continue to pray for vocations. Thank you for supporting this appeal.

A Note From Fr. Andy
Dear Parishioners,
This last Sunday, I was contacted by the Denver Province superior and asked if I could fill a need in the Redemptorist General
Government in Rome, Italy. They are in need of help in the
financial offices on a temporary basis and my name was mentioned.
Reaffirming that it was a temporary assignment, I accepted the
position in Rome which is to start on June 14th, 2015. As of
now, I will be leaving for Rome on June 11th and returning to
Houston around September 14th. I will be working in the financial offices as an assistant to the head of that department.
My temporary absence will be felt by all of you, especially as
we prepare for the Parish Bazaar in October. But, I am confident that the coordination team will work hard, you the parishioners will step up and the Bazaar will be better that ever. The
theme chosen for this years Bazaar is: “It Doesn’t Get any
Better Than This”, let’s make it happen! I will do as much as
I can in the short time before I have to leave.
Please remember me in your prayers while I am away and know
that you the parishioners of Holy Ghost Parish will be in my
heart and prayers. Missing you already,

BAPTISM CLASSES
To have a baby baptized at Holy Ghost the parents and
Godparents are required to attend two Baptism Preparation classes. Our next classes will be Sundays, June 7th
and & 14th at 6:30 pm in the Adult Education Room. It is

HOLY GHOST SCHOOL NEWS
2015-2016 REGISTRATION
Holy Ghost School is now accepting new students for the 20152016 school year. Families may pick up the registration packet
at any time between 8:30 am - 1:30 pm in the school office,
Monday through Friday. There are openings on all grade levels
from PK3 through the 8th Grade. Forms for tuition assistance
are also available in the school office.
FATHER’S MASS LEAGUE
Father’s Day will be June 21st. An
enrollment in the Father’s Mass
League is a nice way to let a special
person know how much you care. Members of the League will share in a
Mass each week from this Father’s
Day until next Father’s Day. You may enroll your father, grandfather, uncle, brother or just a good friend
living or deceased. Enrollment cards are on the tables
in the back of church and in the rectory office.
Human Trafficking
Misa Nguyen
Misa Nguyen, Program Director of United Against Human
Trafficking, will speak at Wellsprings Village’s Founders
Luncheon, June 19, 2015, at the Junior League of Houston.
Misa Nguyen was exposed to the social injustice of human trafficking and participated in faith-based initiatives to spread
awareness of this growing crime while she was a student at UT.
Tickets are $100/person. For reservations call Virginia Kasmierzak, 281-241-8764. Wellsprings Village is a transitional
residence program for homeless and abused women.
VIRTUS
The Safe Environment Office for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking individuals to become certified VIRTUS Facilitators. Final candidates will be trained to present
“Protecting God’s Children” and “Keeping the Promise Alive”
VIRTUS workshops throughout the Archdiocese. Suitable candidates are asked to attend the 2-day training on June 27-28,
2015, commit to facilitate at least four workshops per year and
agree to present workshops at various parishes or schools
within the Archdiocese. Experience and comfort speaking before large audiences is essential. We would like to ask that Pastors and Principals recommend reliable and faithful individuals
who you think might be interested in volunteering for this important ministry. Please submit the names and phone numbers

toda la ofrenda de cada parroquia en nuestra arquidiócesis es para apoyar a los jóvenes que están
estudiando para ser sacerdotes. Se nos pide que en

Queridos hermanos,
Este Domingo pasado, fuí contactado por el Superior de la
Provincia de Denver y me preguntó si podría llenar una necesidad en el Gobierno General de los Redentoristas en Roma,
Italia. Ellos necesitan temporalmente ayuda en la Oficina de
Finanzas y mi nombre fue mencionado.
Repito que este es un asignamiento temporal, Yo acepté la posición en Roma a partir del 14 de Junio, 2015. Si Dios permite
viajaré el 11 de Junio y regresaré probablemente como el 14 de
Septiembre . Estaré trabajando como asistente del Jefe del Departemento Financiero.
Sé que ustedes sentirán mi ausencia temporal, especialmente
ahora que estamos comenzando a prepararnos para el Bazaar en
Octubre. Pero tengo la confianza que los coordinadores van a
trabajar duro, y todos ustedes junto con ellos y el Bazaar será el
mejor de todos. El Tema seleccionado para el Bazaar este año
es “ No Puede estar Mejor que Este”, Permitamos que así sea!
Haré lo más que pueda en el poco tiempo que me queda antes
de irme.
Por favor siempre recuérdenme en sus oraciones mientras esté
ausente y les aseguro que todos ustedes estarán en mi corazón y

Trafico Humano
Misa Nguyen
Misa Nguyen, Directora del Programa Unidos contra el
Tráfico Humano, estará hablando en el almuerzo en
Wellsprings Village’s, el 19 de Junio, 2015, en La Junior
League of Houston. Misa Nguyen fue expuesta a la
injusticia social del tráfico humano y participó en iniciativas basadas en la fe para dar información y prevención en este creciente crímen cuando ella fue
estudiante en la Universidad de Texas. Tickets $100/
