Examination Task – Critical and Historical Studies
4.7 explores aspects of practice in critical and historical interpretations of art
4.8 explores the function of/and relationships between artist – artwork – world – audience
4.9 begins to acknowledge that art can be interpreted from different points of view
4.10 recognises that art criticism and art history construct meanings.
This formal examination focusing on your study of artists who paint portraits and still
life will take place in your timetabled class.
Allocated Examination Time: 50 minutes + 5 minutes reading time

Section 1 (10 marks) - Multiple Choice
Section 2 (10 marks) - Cloze Passage
Section 3 (10 marks) - Image Identification
Section 4 (10 marks) - Short answer section

Marking Criteria
In this task you will be assessed on how well you:
• organise and communicate your knowledge and understanding of the theory studied
• demonstrate clear understanding of the Conceptual Framework
• use appropriate Visual Arts terminology in extended responses
• demonstrate your knowledge of materials and art practice in reference to your
artmaking practice
• write in a concise and well-reasoned way
• present an informed point of view
• use the plates and any other source material provided to inform your response

In Week 4 you will be provided with the questions for the short answer section.
You should prepare your responses and learn them for the examination.
You will not be permitted to bring the prepared responses or any notes into the
classroom for the examination.
