Individual Drill Competition Rules 2015
Participants:
1. Each Squadron may nominate up to 2 cadets of each rank to participate in the individual
drill competition.
2. Names of participants from each Squadron are to be submitted to the head judge by midday
on the competition day.
Drill Movements:
3. All movements will be taken from the Manual of Drill DI (AF) AAP 5135.001 chapters 2 – 4
and the Manual of Ceremonial DI (AF) AAP 5135.002 chapter 5.
4. One of the judges of the day will act as flight sergeant for the purpose of this competition. All
orders will be given by this flight sergeant.
Dress Requirements:
5. Cadets may participate in this competition in either service dress or working dress. Uniform
standard will not be a factor in determining the final winner of this competition.
Procedures:
6. There will be 7 heats, each consisting of cadets of the same rank, in ascending order.
7. When the each heat is to commence, the designated flight sergeant will form up a flight
consisting of all cadets (segregated by rank) who wish to participate in this competition.
8. This flight will then be right dressed and numbered.
9. Up until this point, no cadet can be eliminated for incorrect execution of an order.
10. Various commands will then be given by the flight sergeant.
11. Cadets who perform the movement incorrectly will be eliminated until there is only
one cadet remaining. When a cadet is eliminated, they are to march directly off the parade
ground without interfering with any other cadet still in the competition.
12. Elimination can occur for the following reasons (but not limited to):
a. Incorrectly executing the movement
b. Executing the incorrect movement
c. Pre-empting the command
d. Hesitation
e. Poor dressing
f. Incorrect timing for movement
g. Talking within the flight
12. The Top 3 of each rank division will then compete against each other in a final, procedure as per
above for the below awards.
Judging
13. All remaining judges will observe the flight of cadets and eliminate any cadet as required.
14. The following awards will be presented at the conclusion for the competition day:
a. 3rd Place
b. 2nd Place
c. McFadden/Barr Cup for 1st Place
15. The judges’ decision on the day will be final.
