April 12, 2015 Thomas Sunday From the Desk of the Pastor: Dear Friends in Christ, A cute joke for you: A bank robber pulls out a gun and points it at the teller saying, "Give me all the money or you're geography!" The puzzled teller replies, "Did you mean to say 'or you're history?'" The robber says, "Don't change the subject!" Changing the subject was the Apostle Thomas’ temptation. He gave three years of his life to being “religious.” But, when that ride seemed to come to a terrible end at Jesus’ crucifixion he was content to change back into the former routine of “life as usual.” The same can be said for the fisherman: Peter, James and John. It is our temptation, too. We can be “religious” for Holy Week and Easter, but after that the devil tempts us to move beyond the transforming power of the resurrection of Christ, to go back to “business as usual” and to get on with life in this age. Jesus’ resurrection is so far beyond the normal course of events that we need to keep it at the forefront of our minds. Spiritual self-reflection: A. B. C. D. Do I really believe in Christ’s resurrection? How does this impact my life, my words? Does it change the subject of my private thoughts? Can I make an effort to evangelize someone today with this good news? In Christ, Jason, priest and sinner. New Things Happening: Your Easter Lilies and Hydrangeas can be taken home. Thank you!
