Innovation for the Global Community
The emergence of the 2014 Ebola crisis in West Africa,
challenged the global community in a variety of new ways.
Mr. VanRoekel will discuss the role that technology and
innovation such as mobile devices and applications to
health informatic systems to new approaches to point of
care technologies and diagnostics played in the response,
and how engaging entrepreneurs and innovators
accelerated the impact of the global efforts to fight Ebola.
Innovation – Delivering the $
The vision is articulated, you’re increasing customer
intimacy and focus, understanding the ecosystems, have
R&D and applications development programs underway
and the early stage innovation pipeline is growing
h e a l t h i e r eve r y q u a r t e r.
But new product
commercializations are getting bogged down, innovationderived revenues are less than expected and new product
margins are eroding faster than anticipated. How do you
turn it around, manage costs and maintain the
momentum you’ve worked so hard to build?

Innovation: From Technology Breakthrough to
Customer-Centered
For many companies, there is often a huge difference
between what’s in their business plans and the market’s
expectations for growth. This growth gap comes from the
fact that companies are still pouring money into what
made their success in the past, namely developing
technology breakthrough in their R&D labs, instead of
working to understand what the customer wants and then
using that understanding to drive innovation. In this talk
we will look at the different ways to innovate, especially in
large companies, and describe new customer-centric
approaches which enable companies to innovate and
maximize return on investment while coping with the ever
accelerating time to market.
Evolving Expectations & Shifting Markets What Does This Mean for Innovation?
At WSFS, an independent community bank in Delaware,
innovation is not just a noun, it is a way of doing business.
It is engrained in our culture.
We encourage each
Associate to think of new and creative ways to improve
the way we do business. Innovative ideas do not just
come from the Innovation Team, nor even from the
business lines - rather they come from every layer of the
organization. It is not always the next great product or
service that makes us innovative, but also the incremental
improvements to the way we do business on a daily basis.
At WSFS culture is key to our innovation efforts.
Balancing Silicon Valley with Traditional
Requirements
In this presentation, Alexander will discuss how
international automotive supplier Continental has opened
innovation operations in Silicon Valley to accelerate new
technology. Despite this, there is a real need not to
innovate too quickly, as there are still traditional safety
regulations & other things that need to be considered.
How do you balance consumer demands with traditional
needs?

industry for more than 20 years. His accomplishments
include building a national data and interactive services
platform and driving product development strategy for
Canoe Ventures LLC, a consortium founded by the top six
U.S. cable companies.
Evolving Expectations & Shifting Markets What Does This Mean for Innovation?
In today’s digital world, interconnectedness is the new
standard for designing and creating products, services
and business models. Consumers expect higher levels of
adaptation, personalization and engagement. This
requires seamless eco-systems of interconnected
products, services and solutions that grow and adapt with
the users to bring them new value and meaning. Sean
Carney will discuss why this evolution of expectations also
requires a transformation in Design Thinking and
Experience Design, from linear design to holistic cocreation. Philips develops new people-centered concepts
from bottom-up, crossing borders with teams from across
the company and with outside partners, to deliver
innovations that matter.
Innovation as a 140-Year-Old Startup
In his presentation, Arthur Orduña will offer perspective
on his approach to driving innovation at ADT: Operating
like a 140-year-old startup, while also staying true to the
company’s roots in security. He will share valuable insight
on leading new innovations through the lens of security
and safety, addressing industry challenges and
opportunities, and shaping ADT’s positioning to educate
consumers that a smart home is not necessarily a safe
home. Arthur’s presentation will culminate in how this shift
is driving new product introductions and partnerships that
differentiate ADT in a crowded, competitive space.

IoT for Everyone: Bringing Connected Solutions
to Vulnerable Populations
Internet of things or smart municipal solutions are
beginning to become a reality, but how can they be
harnessed for those who can use them the most: our
elderly, the disabled, low income and others. Montgomery
County has opened up a living laboratory for the internet
of things, the Thingstitute, to help answer that question.
Building Enterprise Capabilities for Innovation
Making innovation excellence an integral part of the fabric
of a large company is a challenging, multi-year
undertaking. At its core (and where most companies do
well) is having a well-functioning system for developing
and commercializing new products and services. What is
often missing is the design and execution of a broader
ecosystem for innovation. In this session, you will hear how
the Hershey Company is approaching an enterprise-wide
approach to innovation – innovation that stretches
beyond core and beyond new products, and a holistic
approach to building the capabilities for innovation
everywhere in the company to drive business value and a
culture of innovation.
The Science and Art of Culinary Open
Innovation
Immerse yourself in the world of culinary open innovation,
where expert culinology intersects with science and
engineering. Campbell Soup has embraced open
innovation as it evolves to appeal to new consumer
lifestyles while growing its businesses. The meeting of
culinary art and science is exciting, but can it be made
better with the involvement of a global network on
innovators? A disciplined process is required to capture
the artistry while delivering at a scale to delight
consumers around the world. Join Carlos Barroso,
Campbell Soup Company SVP of Global R&D, as he shares
culinary open innovation best practices.
