A Message From the Executive Director
“Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.” Steve Jobs
Independent Living Services, Inc. (ILS) experienced another awarding winning year throughout the agency. The expectation
of quality is important in our culture.
The honor of Nonprofit of the year was bestowed on ILS by the Conway Chamber of Commerce. We were recognized for
our high quality programs, and our increased services while maintaining an excellent financial position.
The Council for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (C.A.R.F.) granted ILS another three year certification. Our
programs are measured against national and international standards for program excellence and quality.
ILS continues to contribute to the economy of Faulkner County through increased revenue and adding jobs each year. Our
revenue increases by a minimum of 5% each year. This year our total employee count is 384 with 15 new jobs created.
Mayor Tab Townsell recognized our direct support professionals by declaring September as Direct Support Professional
Month. We are very proud of our direct care staff and the quality service they bring to each consumer.
I attribute our success and high quality to the hard work of our direct care staff, our program managers, and our executive
staff. The excellent leadership of the board of directors expects nothing less than high quality and leads us in that direction.

Development
Our Development Department planned the Annual Golf Ball Drop! In
2013 the Golf Ball Drop returned to Centennial Valley Country Club.
The Golf Ball Drop raised $12,204.00!
Christmas and Occasional Cards with original Artwork by Consumers in
the Art Program at Profiles were sold.
Card Sales raised $3,091.34
Volunteers 2,993 Hours of Volunteers
Volunteers include Board Members, Foster Grandparents, UCA O.T. Students, Conway Christian Students, Cooking Matters Volunteer, Hendrix Volunteers and many other wonderful community members!

Grants
CDBG Grant from the City of Conway $73,000 - For drainage and site renovations at Conway Apartments.
CDBG Grant from the City of Conway $9,669.20 - Used for a match for a new van.
Community Foundation $1,200.00 - Used to purchase new chairs for Profiles.
Energy Arkansas $500.00 - For the Christmas Assistance Fund.
Outreach
Arkansas Children’s Hospital
The Profiles knitting group makes hats for the premies and infants at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
City of Hope
A Christmas Toy Drive was held at Profiles. Administrative staff and Profiles employees along with consumers took part in
getting toys and other Christmas items for the City of Hope.
Faulkner County Humane Society
County The consumer council at Profiles and the Home Ec class worked to bake and sell items. The money went to the Faulkner
Animal Society. We also have a consumer who has volunteered at the Conway Animal Shelter for over 10 years.
St. Judes
Consumers at Profiles collected and donated soda can tabs to St. Judes Hospital in Memphis.
St. Peter’s Food Drive
Our consumers collected and donated food to the hungry. According to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, donated items were used to help fill over 270 boxes and feed over 2,000 adults and children in the Conway area.

Independent Living Services realizes that to be a service provider in today’s environment we must constantly
monitor our services and assess our performance to assure we are meeting the needs of the individuals served
and the community at large. One of many methods ILS uses to carry out this function is to develop annual
outcomes for the organization.

Transportation
With no public transportation in Faulkner County, our consumers depend on our fleet of
43 vehicles for transportation to employment opportunities, social activities, medical
appointments, shopping trips and volunteer opportunities. We currently have 12 FTA Vehicles
in our fleet.
We have 243 seats available on our vehicles!

Special Events
A.C.T.S. (Acting Creates Therapeutic Success)
The ACTS program, sponsored by the UCA Occupational Therapy Department, provides opportunities in performing arts for many of our consumers. With the help
of over 25 Occupational Therapy graduate students, our visual arts program at Profiles Enrichment Center made last year’s performance a success.
Arts Fest
The consumers art was on display at Bob’s Grill for Arts Fest. In addition the Sunshine Optimist Club participated in the Rotary Chili Cook Off. There was a special
evening viewing event of the art open to Independent Living Services consumers.
Christmas Choir
The Profiles Christmas Choir sang at twelve places last year. They ranged from Churches to Civic Clubs to Hospitals and Nursing Homes.
Cooking Matters
A program sponsored the Arkansas Hunger Alliance. It trains people how to cook eat and shop healthy
EcoFest
Profile Productions had a booth at EcoFest. We also supplied water jugs for people to have water.
Faulkner County Fair
Consumers from the Profiles Art Class entered their art into the Faulkner County Fair. Many of the art pieces won
ribbons at the Fair.
Sunshine Optimist Club
The Sunshine Optimist Club meets at Profiles. The consumers run the Optimist Club and are on the board.
Special Olympics
Consumers take part in local and State Special Olympic events. We also have three employees who are also certified Special Olympic Coaches. They participate in flag
football, bocce ball, volleyball, softball, floor hockey, basketball, bowling, and track & field. We had two consumer who participated in the World Special Olympic
Games in 2014!
