Alicante -‐ Murcia If you’re planning to go from the Alicante Airport (Alicante-‐Elche) to the beautiful Murcia, there are a couple of options. You could go by: 1. Taxi 2. Train If you want to go by train, there are a some steps to take from the airport. First of all, you have to find your way from the airport to the train station. There is a bus that goes directly from the airport to the station; Elche Avenida Estación de Tren. The bus goes every 40 minutes from 06:30 h to 23:10 h, every day. Also, this service is free. When you are at the train station, you need to find a train to Murcia. Here’s a table of the trains that go from that station to Murcia (every day of the week), with the prices next to it. The simplest/normal ticket has the lowest price. By bus. You can go directly from the Alicante Airport to Murcia. Here are the timetables with the prices (the company is called ALSA). Again, there are a couple of options. You could go by: 1. Taxi Since this will a drive of more than 3 and a half hours, this might be a very expensive idea. 2. Train Assuming you came to Madrid with a plane, you probably will be at the airport Madrid – Barajas. From here it’s relatively easy to go to Murcia by train. First, you’ll need to get to a train/metro from the Airport to the train station. There is an all new metro line that brings passengers from the airport to the train stations. Some things you need to remember: you need to go from terminal four T4 (if you’re a long way from this terminal by the time that you land and have your luggage, don’t worry, there is a FREE SHUTTLE BUS on the airport), using the new metro line C1, to the Chamartin train station: Madrid-‐Chamartin. This metro/train leaves every 30 minutes every day, from 5:59 AM to 00:15 AM (in the direction from the airport to the train stations). From the airport to the Chamartin train station takes about 11 minutes and costs €2,40. Second, when you’re at the train station, you need to get the train to Murcia. The journey takes about 4 and a half hours and costs between €28,20 and €61,00, depending on if you travel in morning, on what day, etc. Just remember to bring around 30-‐40 euro’s for the train (which is a normal price during the week). The train company is Renfe. Bus The bus trip is a lot easier, but also longer. It’s a lot easier, since the bus leaves directly from the airport, Terminal T4. The bus company is called ALSA. Again, remember that there is a free shuttle service on the airport. So don’t spend hours walking to this terminal, if you can just use this free service. There are 5 buses that go from the airport to Murcia every day of the week. Again, there are a couple of options. You could go by: 1. Taxi Since this will a drive of more than 3 and a half hours, this might be a very expensive idea. 2. Train Assuming you came to Valencia by plane, you probably are at the Valencia – Manises airport. In order to go to Murcia, you first need to go from the airport to the train station. You can get here with the metro. In the airport, there is a terminal called Terminal Regional, here you will find the metro station. To go to the train station, which is called Estación del Norte, the Northern Train Station, you need to take line 5, L5, that travels between the airport and Marítim Serrería. The metro journey will only be a couple of euro’s and the times are: -‐ Monday – Friday : from 05:43 AM to 22:13 PM -‐ Saturdays: from 06:16 AM to 22:16 PM -‐ Sundays and holidays: from 06:56 AM to 21:16 PM On this line, there is a stop called ¨Estación del Norte y Plaza de Toros -‐ Xàtiva y Bailén¨. Get out here. Then, when you are at the train station, you need to find your train. The company that supports the line is called Renfe. The train takes about 3 hours and costs between €19,80 and €42,80. Just remember to bring around €25 for the trip, you should be able to manage with that. Bus If you go with the bus from Valencia Airport to Murcia, the trip is a lot easier. This is because you can take the bus directly from the airport. To get from here into the centre of Murcia, there are a couple of options. You could go by: 1. Taxi Probably the most expensive one (it still is 50 km’s to the city), but also the fastest and easiest one. 2. Bus Another possibility is to take the bus (line 70) from the little town near the airport, which is called Santiago de la Ribera. The bus stop is called Pescadores de la Ribera. When you get on the bus 70, in direction of the bus station in Murcia (Estación de Autobuses de Murcia, the driver will take you all the way into Murcia. The trip will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes and you will end at the main bus station of Murcia: Estación de Autobuses Barrio de San Andrés 30005 Murcia In Murcia FROM THE CITY TO UCAM There are several ways in which you can go to the UCAM: • Bus When you’re travelling from the city centre or the bus station or the train station to the UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, you only have to keep in mind that you need to get on the bus 44. This is the only bus that goes to the UCAM and has many stops in the city of Murcia. Your trip will probably take between 30 and 45 minutes. • Tranvía Also, you can use the Tranvía, a sort of tram, which runs from many points in Murcia with a final stop at the UCAM. Here’s the timetable for the tramway. Just remember that the tram doesn’t run on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The people who work there will be able to help you with a lot of things and they speak English as well. If you arrived in Murcia at the bus station, there are 2 ways to get to the hostel: • Taxi Just ask if the driver can go to Cathedral Hostel, or this address: Traperia 19 3ºizq 30001 Murcia • Walking Of course it’s possible to go with the bus, but if you’re going to spend money on this, you might as well take a cab (since it’s only a 5 to 7 minute drive). If you don’t want to spend on this part of your journey, you can walk to the hostel. The way is a little bit complicated, but remember to go east. (walking takes 10 to 15 minutes) This is the route you need to take: -‐ go out of the bus station onto the street (Calle Sierra Pila) -‐ turn right towards the Calle Sierra Nevada -‐ turn left on this street -‐ take the first right (Calle Dr. Jesus Quesada Sanz) -‐ cross the big road and -‐ take the first road on the right (Plaza de San Agustin) -‐ go left at the first possibility (Calle Arrixaca) -‐ take the fourth road on the left (Calle Sagasta) -‐ and immediately, the first one on the right (Calle Santa Teresa). -‐ continue for about 400 meters until you reach the road Gran Via Escultor Francisco Salzillo. -‐ When you reach this road, take a right and a left (into the street Calle Fernández Ardavín) -‐ When you’re on this road, keep going straight until you see the Cathedral Hostel in a street on the right. The street is the sixth street on the right and is called Calle Trapería FROM THE TRAIN STATION TO CATHEDRAL HOSTEL The Cathedral Hostel might be a good place to spend your first night. The people who work there will be able to help you with a lot of things and they speak English as well. When you are at the train station and want to go to the hostel, there are some possibilities: • Taxi The drive is not very long (7-‐8 minutes). Just ask if the driver can go to Cathedral Hostel, or this address: Traperia 19 3ºizq 30001 Murcia • Walking However, it’s a pretty long way. • Bus There are many different busses that you can take from the train station that go towards to Cathedral Hostel (line C5, 62, 26, 44, etc.). Just remember to take a bus north and get out at one of the following stops: Gran Via 6, Sta. Isabel, Glorieta de España, etc. Here’s a map:
