President stresses on cooperation among innovators, investors and entrepreneurs New Delhi : President Pranab Mukherjee today stressed upon the need to deliberate on the strategy for changing the climate of cooperation among innovators, investors and entrepreneurs. Addressing a round table meeting on financing of innovations with leaders of banking and financial sectors at Rastrapati Bhawan, Mr Mukherjee said there are many instances of innovations that are languishing for want of financial support. He said innovations in different segments will aid the high growth that the country has envisaged to improve productivity across all sectors. Referring to the opening of a large number of bank accounts and issue of Rupay debit cards under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the President said that only a small number of account holders have access to credit for improving their livelihood. Mr Mukherjee also asked bankers to reach out to the innovators, mentor them and connect them with other clients who may help them in expanding their market. The Third Launch Pad is intended to support increased launch frequency, launching requirements of future advanced launch vehicles and also serve as a redundant launch pad for the GSLV MIII class of vehicles. Detailed studies on possible concepts / options and preliminary configuration have been carried out. The possible site for the Third Launch Pad has been identified in Sriharikota taking into account the safety distances and maximal utilisation of existing launch pad facilities. However, further work on design of the launch pad will be taken up at an appropriate time after finalising the configuration of the advanced launch vehicle, operationalisation of GSLV MIII, programmatic requirements and resource availability. EPFO’s to raise age limit under pension scheme to 60 New Delhi : Retirement fund body, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s trustees has decided to raise the age limit from 58 to 60 years for vesting of pension. Central Board of Trustees member D L Sachdev said that the EPFO’s apex decision making body, the CBT, which is headed by the Labour Minister, met yesterday and took a slew of decisions. At present, a formal sector worker covered under the EPS-95 can make contributions towards pension scheme till the age of 58 years and can claim pension thereafter. After the amendment to the pension scheme, a formal sector worker can choose to contribute towards it till 60 years of age. This will provide him a benefit of 4 per cent enhanced pension per year. Besides, the trustees has also decided to raise the age of short-term pension by five years to 55 years. He said the initiative of Deen Dayal Upadhaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana of NRLM, which is the placement linked skill development programme for rural youth is being implemented in partnership with private sector, public sector and civil society organisations. Mohamood India’s literacy rate rose to 72.98 % in 2011: Smriti Irani New Delhi : The government today said that its basic thrust is giving maximum opportunities to girls and women to make them literate and empowered. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha today, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said, as per census 2011, the number of illiterates has declined to 28.27 crore in the country from 30.41 crore in 2011. She said, after the launching of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in 200102, enforcement of the Right of children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 and Saakshar Bharat programme, the country’s literacy rate has gone up from 64.84 per cent in 2001 to 72.98 per cent in 2011. The Minister also informed the House that under the Saakshar Bharat, a centrally sponsored scheme for Adult Education and Skill Development, promotion of adult literacy with special focus on women, SCs, STs, minorities and other disadvantaged groups in rural areas of 410 districts. Mrs Irani said the objective of this programme is to raise the literacy level to 80 per cent and reduce the gender gap by the end of XII Five Year plan.
