The Jesuit Collaborative Position Posting Title: Employment status: Salary: Director of Contemplative Leaders in Action, a Program of The Jesuit Collaborative Full‐time Commensurate with experience Reports to: Executive Director, The Jesuit Collaborative Organization Description: The Jesuit Collaborative is a 501(c)(3) non‐profit organization whose mission is to help people draw closer to God through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. The Collaborative carries out its mission by offering the Exercises and programs inspired by them in a wide variety of formats, training people for ministry, and building networks and communities. Program Description: Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA) is an innovative Ignatian spirituality and leadership program that engages young professionals in their late 20s and 30s in a dialogue about the intersections of faith, family, career, and leadership. Started in New York City in 2008, CLA is now offered by the Jesuit Collaborative in five cities with approximately 150 participants a year. A vibrant and growing alumni network and a community of dedicated advisors, mentors and spiritual directors support CLA. As CLA has grown, the Jesuit Collaborative has partnered with other groups in offering CLA. Seattle University and the Loyola Institute for Spirituality in Orange County, California now offer CLA in their communities. We hope to expand the program so that more young adults can encounter the goals of CLA: growing closer to God through Ignatian spirituality; learning about the dynamic tools of Ignatian leadership; and using their gifts to increase faith and justice with their families, co‐ workers and communities. Position Summary: This is a full‐time position responsible for managing and leading the Contemplative Leaders in Action program throughout the Northeast and Maryland Provinces. Because of the nature of the work involved, it is possible that the job can be done remotely as long as within reasonably easy access to New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Travel is required Key Responsibilities: Management There are currently part‐time regional directors in five cities who report to the Director. The Director works collaboratively with the Regional Directors to ensure the successful implementation of the CLA program in each city. There is a Regional Advisory Committee in each program city that assists with this implementation. The Director collects monthly updates from the Regional Directors and facilitates monthly conference calls and an annual staff meeting/retreat so that best practices can be shared. There is a part‐time Assistant Director of CLA who assists the Director, in managing the program. Curriculum and Best Practices The Director is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving a guide for implementation of the program including the curriculum and best practices in areas such as facilitating monthly meetings, the application process, the mentoring program, and the capstone project. Strategic Plan CLA is currently approaching the third year of a three‐year strategic plan. The Director is responsible for implementing the goals of the plan: quality, growth, marketing and communications and financial sustainability. The Director will also be responsible for working with the Executive Director of the Jesuit Collaborative and the Chairs of the Regional Advisory Committees to develop a new strategic plan to guide CLA in upcoming years. Program Evaluations The Director will administer and review three participant surveys annually: at the beginning of the program; at the conclusion of year one and at the conclusion of year two. The Director will ask each Regional Director to complete an annual self‐evaluation and will review the evaluation with the Regional Director. Supervision of application process The Director provides general oversight and assistance with annual recruitment efforts including: • • • Distribution of invitation to CLA community to nominate candidates, Updating of flyers and other materials, Reaching out to Jesuit secondary schools, colleges, universities and Jesuit works such as JVC, ASN, AJCU and ISN The Director works with the staff of the Jesuit Collaborative to provide on‐line applications, registrations and tuition payment. Regional Advisory Committees The Director works closely with the Chair and other members of the Regional Advisory Committees to ensure the implementation of CLA’s strategic plan on the regional level. The Director facilitates bi‐monthly conference calls with the Regional Chairs to share best practices. Finances The Director works with the CFO of the Collaborative to develop an annual budget for CLA and works with the Regional Directors and the Regional Advisory Committees to ensure that the budget is met. Events The Director will work with the Advancement Director of the Collaborative, the Regional Director and the Chair of the Regional Advisory Committee to ensure the successful hosting of one to three regional CLA events annually such as a fall reception welcoming new participants, a fundraiser and a community mass. Alumni and Intercity Programs The Director works with the Regional Directors and the Regional Advisory Committees to identify opportunities for program alumni. These opportunities may include: 19th annotation retreats, participation in Jesuit ministries, assisting with CLA monthly meetings or retreats, and membership on Regional Advisory Committees. The Director will also work with a team of alumni to offer an Intercity Retreat. New Programs The Director will assist parties wishing to develop CLA programs in new cities. Within the Collaborative’s territory, the Director will meet with stakeholders to discuss necessities for successful implementation of the program, including the development of a Regional Advisory Committee, and will supervise the interviewing of candidates for the position of Regional Director. For those outside of the Collaborative’s geographic territory, this involves advising leaders and maintaining the integrity of the program. The Jesuit Collaborative The Director participates in weekly staff calls and occasional staff meetings of the Jesuit Collaborative and works to promote the mission and identity of the Jesuit Collaborative. Desired Qualifications and Skills: • • • • • • • • • • • • Have a lived experience of Ignatian mission and spirituality Have made or are willing to make the Spiritual Exercises Understanding of leadership development Ability to relate well to young adults, advisors and donors Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Leadership and team‐building skills Ability to travel Good judgment and decision making Understanding of budgets. Willingness to assist with fundraising. Willingness and ability to work independently and as a member of a team Flexibility, demonstrable ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines Minimum of 5 years prior experience in program management or similar position preferred • A bachelor’s degree is required, and advanced post‐graduate work is preferable.
