My classroom website is a resource for both students and parents alike. It contains updated links for
the current topics of study as well as information on tests, homework and assignments.
Course Objectives:
1. To explore and develop an understanding of the values and ethics in our world and society as
well as those we hold personally.
2. To explore and develop understanding of the diversity of cultures and the religious traditions,
beliefs and practices represented in our society and world.
3. To learn to use communication in ways that open up and encourage dialogue while showing
respect for all points of view.
**Since dialogue is so important to both competencies, getting involved in discussion
of the subject matter covered in each class is highly encouraged.
Term Evaluation: Each competency is weighted 50%
Competency 1) Reflects on Ethical Questions & Engages in Dialogue
 Gives detailed analysis of situations from an ethical point of view
 Demonstrates study in the references present in the points of view
 Shows evaluation of options or possible actions in order to recognize which ones contribute to
community life
Competency 2) Demonstrates an Understanding of the Phenomenon of Religion & Engages in
Dialogue.
 Gives detailed analysis of forms of religious expression
 Provides explanation of connections between forms of religious expression and elements of
the social and cultural environment.
 Demonstrates analysis of a range of ways of thinking, being and acting
Competency 1 & 2) Engages in Dialogue
 Demonstrates organization of thinking
 Interacts with others in a positive manner
 Develops a substantial point of view
Course Themes:
1. Freedom
2. Social Order
3. Quebec’s Religious Heritage (founders, influential figures and institutions, influences on values
and norms in Quebec society)
4. Representations of the divine and of mythical and supernatural beings
Materials:
The following supplies must be on hand at all times:
2 blue or black pens
A small binder
2 pencils
Loose leaf paper
A Hilroy exercise book ( for journal entries)
Student Agenda
Occasionally you will need:
Bristle Boards (2)
Old magazines and News papers
A glue stick
Coloured pencils and\or markers
Scissors
