It is not necessary to check in at the head table unless there is a problem with your registration.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As this playoff is a qualifier for the Provincial Championships (May 30 & 31, 2015), those
who are wishing to compete at the Provincials must qualify in the age division that he/she will be on that date.
For those who aspire to make the BC Team through placing in the Provincials and then hopefully attend the
Nationals (Jan 7-10, 2016 approx), you will need to qualify in this playoff in the age division that you will be on
that date.
Coaches and Senseis please make sure you understand this.

Incomplete registration forms (e.g. missing weights, age, etc.) may result in athlete(s) not being able to compete.
SAME DAY REGISTRATION: Juniors: $40.00 ~ Adults: $50.00
Same-day registration must be completed Saturday morning prior to 8:30 am.

EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS: All competitors are expected to present themselves for competition with blue
and red belts and gloves. SIKA does not supply these to the competitors.
FREE SPARRING REGULATIONS:
Kumite will be straight elimination for all divisions except black belt (14 yrs. & up).
Kumite will be first to 6 or 8, age dependant, for all divisions except black belt (14 yrs. & up).

KATA REGULATIONS:
Kata will be run using scorecards for all divisions except black belt (14 yrs. & up).
WEAPONS KATA:
Separate Junior and Adult Colored Belt and Black Belt divisions have been set up for registration. These may
be combined to accommodate registration numbers.
EQUIPMENT:
 All kumite competitors must wear a fitted mouth guard.
 All male kumite athletes must wear a groin protector.
 Chest & groin protectors are optional for female kumite competitors.
 All kumite competitors must wear vinyl or leather sparring mitts; cloth hand protectors are not permitted; no
foam-dipped gear permitted.
 Soft shin/instep guards are permitted, not mandatory, for all divisions except black belt (14 yrs & up)
Competitors who do not have these when called upon to compete will be given one minute to rectify the situation
or they will be disqualified.
SPECIAL NOTES:

PRINT CLEARLY or TYPE: If we can’t read the information, we can’t enter the athlete!
Weight must be recorded for all kumite competitors in kg.

SIKA reserves the right to combine, subdivide or cancel any event.
Errors on your registration form may mean that an athlete does not get to compete –
accurate! Don’t guess!


Athletes are required to confirm their events with the posted draw sheets and report any discrepancies
to the Head Table prior to competition.
As per KBC and NKA rules, Athletes at the Provincials may compete in only one kata, one Weapon and
one Kumite event (except Elite Weight/Open events, and Elite 18-20 yr. old competitors, who may
compete in the Elite Adult division as well.

Winter Games divisions are extra.

KOBUDO RULES
1.
These rules shall govern Kobudo competition at all Karate BC tournaments. At the time of drafting, these
tournaments include the Spring Provincials, Fall Provincials, Open Tournament and Northern/Winter Games.
2.
Other rules may be substituted for these rules at tournaments which are sanctioned by Karate BC, with the exception of Rule 5,
which is required to be followed at all tournaments sanctioned by Karate BC.
3.
As far as applicable, the Kata Rules of the World Karate Federation shall apply to Kobudo competition. These
include, for example, the provisions governing:
competition area
official dress
the judging panel
criteria for decision
4.
The weapons which can be used in kobudo competition are only those which were traditionally used in Okinawan
kobudo.
5.
No weapon which is a prohibited weapon pursuant to the Criminal Code may be used in competition at any Karate
BC tournament or any tournament sanctioned by Karate BC. This includes, for example, hard nunchaku (as
opposed to foam nunchaku) and any form of brass knuckle.
6.
There is no requirement that the kobudo kata performed be selected from a list of recognized kata.
7.
All officials who are recognized by Karate BC as qualified kata judges are automatically recognized as qualified
kobudo judges.
8.
These rules shall take effect immediately upon adoption by the Board of Karate BC. If the Officials Committee of
Karate BC adopts new Kobudo Rules prior to September 1, 2005, those rules shall automatically replace these rules,
as long as they contain a provision substantially similar to Rule 5.
Please note:
In the Elite divisions the Provincials is the first step in qualifying for the Nationals and the National Team.
So athletes wishing to
qualify for the Nationals and National Team need to compete in the divisions they will
be in as of the dates of those events.
Competitors in Elite divisions may register in more than one age category provided their birth dates allow it. For example; a competitor
who is 15 at the Provincials but would be 16 before the Junior Pan-Ams is allowed to compete in the 14/15 divisions and the 16/17 elite
divisions. Competitors are not allowed to compete in an intermediate division and an elite division in the same category. Competitors
cannot do intermediate kumite and elite kumite at the same Provincials. However, they could do intermediate kata and elite kumite or
vice versa.
