From the Pastor’s Pen
“I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it.” Matthew 16:18b.
This passage of Scripture has been a source of great
encouragement to me over the past many years of ministry at
LLBC. It encourages me to know that there is nothing that
Satan or anyone else can do to defeat the church. God loves
His people and He is the protector of His Bride, the church.
He protects us and provides all that we need in order for us to
be successful for Him. In a sense we can do as that preacher
of old said “storm the gates of Hell with a water pistol singing
Blessed assurance Jesus is mine!” and there is nothing that
Satan can do to defeat us! We are the Bride of Christ, the Body
of Believers, the family of God…. Praise God! Not only does
He protect His church but He also builds His church. Yes!
What a comfort and encouragement to know that God is the
one who grows His church. We are privileged to be used by the
Master Builder as He builds His church. Paul wrote in
1 Corinthians chapter 1, that some plant and others water, but it
is God that brings about the growth. There is much wisdom in
these words. God brings the growth. It is not by our might or
our power but by His Spirit that His work is accomplished.
Church, today I want to remind each of us of the wonderful
privilege we have to cooperate with the King of the Universe
and to experience His hand of protection and provision,
knowing that the victory is sure. Stand strong brothers and
sisters, give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord! Keep the
faith!

God at Work in Lake Lure
April was once again an awesome month for life and ministry in Lake Lure. God
continues to use the family at LLBC to make a difference in the lives of many
people. What an awesome blessing to celebrate the baptism of Tia Puchala.
Congratulations Tia!
Sadly, we have had to say “see you later” to our dear sister in Christ, Virginia
Bily. The Lord saw fit to call Virginia home on April 27. I was blessed to be
able to fly to Chicago to minister to David and the family and officiate at the
funeral (celebration of life).
We kicked the month off with a community Sunrise Service, and a breakfast
catered by the ladies ministry at Cedar Creek Stables. This service was
followed by a communion service held in the church sanctuary.
Throughout the past couple of months the children and Youth have been going
through a Duck Dynasty Bible study. This study was concluded with a
“Redneck hoe-down,” at which we studied the Word, played games, ate
hotdogs and made s’mores. Thanks to all who made this event such a great
success.
On the weekend of April 17 we hosted The Bridge Baptist Church for a “Power
in Gospel Partnerships” event. This was a great time of worshipping together
with churches from all over the state and from other states, as we emphasized
the importance of churches working together for the cause of Christ. At this
service we also encouraged churches to give financially to The Bridge Baptist
Church as they seek to purchase a worship facility in which they can worship
and serve their community in Holden Beach NC.
The missions department have continued to lead and educate the church in
missions. On April 11 we took a group of 14 people to Calvary Baptist Church,
Winston Salem, for the NC Baptist State Convention Missions conference. This
was a great experience as we were both blessed to worship together, and were
exposed to various
missions both locally and abroad.
The men of the church continue to meet on Friday mornings for prayer, study
and fellowship. They also hosted their
monthly breakfast, which was followed by “Operation In as Much.” During this
event we had men go out into the community and do various small home repair
jobs and cut grass and clean yards. What a blessing it was to see the men
getting out and demonstrating the heart of Jesus!
The kids and ladies ministries put on a joint Mother/Daughter event at the
church. It was great to see these ladies pouring into the lives of their daughters.
Throughout this month I was blessed to speak in the chapel service of Trinity
Christian School, preach at the Sandy Run Baptist Association pastor’s conference, and lead the Green River Bi-vocational pastors conference. I praise God
for all the doors for ministry that He is opening for LLBC.
On Wednesday, April 29, LLBC met for their bi-annual business meeting. This

was a great time of celebrating the past and looking forward to the future ministry opportunities. It was decided at this meeting to go ahead with Phase 2A
once we have the needed $35 000 to bring it into the dry. We currently have
$23 000 toward this goal. The total cost for this Phase 2A will be approx. $55
000. Once again the church has remained faithful to their commitment to not
make debt for this expansion.
It was also decided on this meeting that we seek to hire a part time youth minister/leader. Please pray as we now seek the person whom God has equipped
and is preparing for this position.
In this month you were able to give $1100.00 to local and international
missions. You also gave $700.00 to support the Joel Colon family (Ukraine)
and the Roberson family (S. Asia). Therefore the total missions giving for April
was $1800.00.
As you can see God is at work in Lake Lure. Church, we are blessed and
privileged to play a role in all that He is doing. Praise God!
By His grace and for His glory,

Expect Opposition
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a
roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” —1 Peter 5:8
We don't know how long Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden before
temptation came. The Devil had heard God's warning to Adam: "You may freely
eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die" (Genesis 2:16–17). The
way the text in Genesis unfolds, it almost appears as though Satan came immediately with his temptation.
It reminds me of the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, where Jesus talked
about a sower who went out and scattered seed, and some seed fell on the
roadside, where the birds came and quickly ate it.
We all know what that is like. Have you ever dropped a French fry outside
McDonald's? Birds suddenly appear out of nowhere. Then there are the seagulls at the beach that fly off with your lunch or your children or your very small
dog.
Jesus said, "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his
heart" (verse 19). That is why we need to pray for people who have just come to
Christ, because the Devil will be there with temptation, with doubt, and with an
onslaught of other things.
This reminds us that whenever God is blessing, expect the Devil to be opposing—immediately. He isn't going to wait for a year. He isn't going to wait for a
month. He may not even wait for an hour.
You can be walking out of church when temptation suddenly comes. You think,
What is with that? The fact is that Satan wants to undermine what just happened in your life. He opposes immediately. He always will!

New Youth ministry Position
Praise God for the growth of the youth department. Currently we have anywhere
between 10 and 15 High Schoolers, and approx. 4 to 6 Middle Schoolers
attending on Wednesday evenings. In order to meet the ever changing and
growing needs of the youth ministry we have decided to go ahead a create a
paid, part-time youth minister/leader position. It was decided on the bi-annual
meeting that if we are to continue to grow and specifically draw the younger
families in our community that we need to staff the church for growth. Please
pray as we now actively pray and seek the person that God has in mind for this
very important ministry.

Ladies Ministry
“If I can speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love (That
reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for
and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
“Most of the things we devote our time and energy to are things that are currently passing away, things that will not last. We strive to make money, build
businesses, achieve great accomplishments, be popular, own buildings, cars,
and jewelry. We want to expand our minds and see the world, yet all of these
things are temporal. They will all come to an end. Only Love never comes to an
end. An act of love goes on and endures forever.
Thankfully, God allows us to have a lasting impact when He asks us to love
others. Henry Drummond says that “to love abundantly is to live abundantly,
and to love forever is to live forever.” In order to “love abundantly” and “live
forever”, I encourage you to first receive God’s love for you…then you can walk
in love toward everyone else.” (The Power of Being Thankful, Joyce Meyer)
Ladies, I am Thankful for You and Blessed by You! We have so many beautiful,
strong and amazing women in our congregation. I think it’s time to get us all
together! Mark your calendars…..May 22nd will be a Ladies Spring Sunset
Dinner. Details on time and place coming soon. A sign-up sheet will be placed
in the fellowship hall when details are announced.
Our ladies prayer and fellowship will continue in May! Be sure to join us on
May 28th from 9:30-11:00.
I am excited to announce our new Women’s Bible Study for the summer. This
will be a book study with a guide included. We will have a weekly email review
and, during the summer, a once a month prayer group and fellowship brunch.
The book is called
“Calm My Anxious Heart” by Linda Dillow. Our study will begin in June with our
first meeting on June 11th. More information will be coming your way with plenty of time to signup and get plugged in. This will be a wonderful summer read, a
great bible study, and a wonderful way to connect with your sisters.
June 5th the Ladies will have an opportunity to serve by providing a side dish,
drink, item, or volunteer assistance for our annual Summer Kick Off Church
Picnic! A sign-up sheet will be placed in the fellowship hall closer to date with
more information to follow. So much to look forward to and so many ways to
get involved.

The Heart of Worship
Shoe Box Corner
Over the last several months we have been looking deeper into our 6 New Year’s
resolutions for 2015. This month we look at giving more. I ran across a wonderful
article I thought I would share for this topic call “Our Giving Is An Act of Worship” by
Ron Kelley. Ron Kelley is the director of the Prestonwood Foundation in Dallas,
Texas, providing biblical guidance and training in the area of stewardship, personal
finances, and Kingdom Significance estate planning.
Perhaps the most powerful text in the Old Testament concerning giving can be found
in Malachi 3:8-10, where God accused the Israelites of robbing Him. God's chosen
people questioned this claim and asked, "How do we rob You?" God's response
was, "By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions." God then
went on to make a powerful challenge: "Test Me in this way. ... See if I will not open
the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure" (v.10).
That is a powerful promise from our gracious, giving God!
When it comes to the New Testament, the actual word tithe is no longer mentioned,
so does this mean the strong message of giving to God in the Old Testament is no
more? Nothing could be further from the truth! In light of what Christ has done for us
on the cross and the amazing grace we receive, our giving should be a reflection of
what our heart treasures.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:21). Our giving
should be viewed as a part of our worship to the Lord. If we are just giving to mark
off a line on our spiritual checklist, we are merely involved in charity and we are
missing out on the great joy of being a cheerful giver. This idea of our giving being a
part of our worship is expanded upon in 2 Corinthians 8-9 as the apostle Paul makes
the following points.
Those who follow Jesus should excel in the grace of giving.
Giving is an expression of the love one has for Jesus.
God loves willing and cheerful givers.
A willingness to be generous in giving is more important than the amount given.
Our giving will result in praise and thanksgiving to God.
Our giving should be a natural response to God's gracious gift to mankind.
In light of what Christ has done for us, why would we not want to give Him our best?
I am blessed to be able to speak to many groups on the subject of biblically based
giving. It has been my experience that once people hear this lesson, they respond in
one of three ways.
The first response is understanding — their giving is a joyful act of worship, and they
are greatly blessed to be part of God's sovereign plan by making kingdom-significant
investments. These people are filled with the joy of the Lord.
The second response is conviction. There are many reasons why a person cannot
give. Conviction for a Christian comes from the Holy Spirit, and it is actually a good
thing. God's love for us is so great. He wants us to turn in a different direction and
Hello! Have you been praying? Have you purchased some "odd"
gifts? Listen to the following story. It's an excerpt from the
Operation Christmas Child book, "A Story of Simple Gifts".
Sami (an OCC team leader) also told of a family who had
expressed interest in a children's Bible for their son.
When Sami went with the team to a Lebanese school, this little
boy opened his shoe box and found a copy of the Bible in the
Arabic language.
Can you imagine God directing a family in an English speaking
country to put an Arabic Bible in a shoe box (not knowing where it was
going)? Then out of five million boxes, it was packed, sent to a processing center, sealed and put onto a pallet, and then shipped in a container across the
ocean, ending up in Beirut, Lebanon (of all places), and eventually in the hands
of this boy.
Stories like this confirm that shoe boxes and tools in God's hand.
We pack them; God guides them, one by one.

LLBC Building Expansion—Phase 2A
We are going ahead with Phase 2A ( a large room added to the river side of the old
sanctuary for fellowship, Sunday school, youth etc).
We will only break ground once we have the needed $35 000 to complete the outside.
The total estimated cost is $55 000.00.
What we now need is: Much prayers, finances and commitments for volunteer labor.
Please consider how you can help make this phase of the building a reality.

know the stats of your sports
hero, and you can recite lyrics from your favorite songs. In short, you're a huge
fan. But are you treating Jesus the same as the other people you admire?
The truth is Jesus wants more than the church attendance, occasional prayer,
and the ability to recite Scripture - the fan response. He's looking for people who
are actually willing to sacrifice in order to follow him.
In this teen edition of Not a Fan, Kyle Idleman uses humor, personal stories, and
biblical truth as he challenges you to look at what it means to call yourself a

exhibit different actions or behaviors. It is wise for the believer to take heed when conviction comes over us.
The third response is irritation — people are upset that they had to sit through a message on money in a church environment. I can understand people being disillusioned,
because we all know how false teachers have taken advantage of good-hearted people. This problem dates back to the church in Ephesus as the apostle Paul instructed
Timothy to address this issue of false teaching on money; but, Paul encourages the
church to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as
a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life in
heaven (1 Tim. 6:18-19).

Men’s Ministry
This Little Light of Mine
Am I going to let it shine till Jesus comes? Or am I going to hide it? As I
thought about this little nursery song, I began thinking about this light that I am
to have. So I turned to the Bible and these are some things it had to say about
this Light.
Beginning in Gen. 1:3 we see God creating a concept He called light. Then He
created the Sun and the Stars and the reflected light of the moon.
In Ex.10:21-23 the Lord brought a plague of darkness upon the land, yet the
Israelites had light in the places where they lived. Then Moses leads them out
of Egypt and God puts a pillar of fire to lead them out and the pillar never left its
place. Ex. 14:20 the angel of the Lord came behind and brought darkness to
one side and light to the other. Ex. 25:31-40 depicts God’s instructions in making a pure gold lamp stand with 7 lamps and Ex 27:20 speaks of the clear olive
oil for the lamp and says it is to keep burning from evening till morning as an
everlasting ordinance. In Ps. 18:28, David sings, “You oh Lord, keep my lamp
burning. My God turns my darkness into light with your help I can advance a
troop with my God I can scale a wall.” Ps. 27:1 David says, “The Lord is my
light and my salvation, whom shall I fear.”
Do you think God wants His light to be in our life? How do we get it?
Ps 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.”
Verse 130 goes on to say “The entrance of thy words gives light.”
Isa. 42:5-6 “This is what God the Lord says, he who crated the heavens and
sketched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out…I will keep
you and make you to be a covenant for the people a light for the Gentiles, to
open the eyes that are blind, to free the captives from prison and to release
from the dungeon those who set in darkness.”
Mt.4:15 (Jesus refers to Is 9:1-2) “The people living in darkness have seen a
great light in those living in the land of the shadows of death a light has
dawned.” He then says in Mt. 5:14 “You are the light of the world let your light
shine.” Paul in Eph. 4:8 writes, “You were once in darkness but now you are
light in the Lord. Live as the children of the light for the fruit of the light consists
in all goodness, righteousness and truth and find out what pleases the Lord.”
I never thought a little nursery song could say so much. Have you seen the
Light?
Our men’s breakfast and Operation Inasmuch day was on April 25th, we shared
a little light with some people who needed a little help. The men did various
maintenance jobs, cut grass and cleaned yards for those who could not get out
and do it for themselves. Through this local mission we were able to bring glory
to God, as we let our lights shine for Him. Join us on May 30 for our regular
men’s breakfast and meeting. Don’t forget to join us on Friday mornings 7:30 for
a time of prayer and bible study.

glecting the all-important matter of devotion to the Master.
What happens? Martha ends up critical, impatient, exhausted, frazzled, and
frenzied. In other words, the way some of us find ourselves when we look in the
mirror!
Robert Murray M’Cheyne said it this way: “No amount of activity in the King’s
service will make up for neglect of the King Himself.” One of the greatest dangers we face each day is neglecting to cultivate intimacy with Christ.
The language used by the bride in the Song of Songs to describe her relationship with her beloved is the language of intimacy:
The king has brought me into his chambers....I sat down in his shade with great
delight, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting
house, And his banner over me was love....His left hand is under my head, And
his right hand embraces me....My beloved is mine, and I am his (2:3-6, 16).
I understand that this is a picture of intimacy in human marriage; but human
marriage is intended to be a picture of that eternal relationship we have with our
heavenly Bridegroom. I see here a description of the kind of intimacy we’re
intended to enjoy with the Lord Jesus.
But intimacy with Jesus doesn’t just happen. It has to be intentionally cultivated
and consistently, proactively pursued. We don’t drift into intimacy; if anything,
we’re prone to drift away from each other.
I confess that I often struggle to get a quiet place and a quiet heart to draw near
to the Lord. For me, the biggest intruders have to do with technology. It’s not
that technology itself is evil. It’s a tool. But I find that the more tools I have that
plug in to charge, the more difficult it is for me to have undistracted time with
the Lord!
There are days when I think, “Maybe I just need to get rid of it all—email, Twitter, Facebook, my smartphone ...” I’m not saying God is asking that of you, but
if that’s what it would take for you to be where you need to be in your relationship with Him, would you be willing to unplug? No price is too great to really
know Jesus and walk with Him.
Wouldn’t Satan love to keep us busy doing ministry but not maintaining a close
relationship with Jesus? That’s why we have to ruthlessly eliminate the unnecessary clutter that distracts us from devotion to Christ. And we need to invite
people to challenge us to deal with anything that could be encroaching on our
relationship with the Lord, because we tend to lose objectivity.
What about you? Do you have a vital, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus?
Are you nurturing your vineyard through daily time in His presence, in the Word
and in prayer?

areas already available but in the fall we will need to start a new junior youth
class on Wednesday nights. Sundays we need to add an additional class for
toddlers. We need to have three classes instead of the two we currently have
on Sunday. We have nursery but right now our toddlers and preschoolers are
in the same class and that makes teaching a challenge. Plus, we are being
blessed with babies and as the church grows we will need to add more child
care for nursery. This is for babies that are under one year of age. The need
varies from week to week but we need someone to help serve in this area,
especially on Wednesday nights. God is moving in a great way in the children’s
ministry and we need to be willing to serve where there is a need. God has
called the little children to Him and we are so blessed to see that coming to
fruition at Lake Lure Baptist. It is such an awesome opportunity to see children
accept the Lord as their Savior and grow in their walk with Him. It is never too
early or children too young to start leading them to Jesus. Don’t miss the blessing God has in store for you while serving. Please see me if you feel the Lord
leading you to serve in this great ministry.

Don’t Loose the
Intimacy
I’ve often pondered that verse in the opening paragraph of the Song of Songs*
where the bride says, “They made me the keeper of the vineyards, but my own
vineyard I have not kept” (1:6).
Does your heart resonate with that lament? I think it’s a picture of what it’s often
like for those active in ministry. We’re constantly tending the vineyards of others—counseling, teaching, encouraging, exhorting, serving, giving, praying for
others—while neglecting our own spiritual wellbeing.
I’m talking about the failure to cultivate and prioritize our own walk with the Lord
... taking shortcuts spiritually. I’ve been there so many times.
In my busyness in ministry, I sometimes realize a whole day has gone by, and I
haven’t spent any quality time with the Lord I’m trying to serve. The people
we’re ministering to may not detect any noticeable difference initially. But I’m
convinced we cannot stay faithful and fruitful in ministry over the long haul if
we’re trying to live on past experiences with God.
I’m talking about the danger of service without devotion. We all know and have
probably taught that classic passage in Luke 10. Two sisters—one of them is
sitting at the feet of Jesus; the other, Martha, is serving the Master, while ne-

Not a Casual Relationship
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight
your paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6).
There should be nothing casual about our relationship with God. This point is
clearly made and emphasized in one of the most well-known passages in the
Bible, Proverbs 3:5–6.
Notice these word choices in particular: trust God with “all your heart,” and
acknowledge Him in “all your ways.” Both phrases imply a hold-nothing-back
way of giving ourselves continually over to God.
We sometimes use this passage as a sort of medicine, partaking of it when we
are confused or unsure. While there is nothing wrong with this approach per se,
it does diminish the enlightenment we could get from it at all other times. It is
not only in seasons of difficulty that we need God to make our paths straight—
we need His guidance each moment of every day.
To “acknowledge” God does not mean to give Him a casual nod, indicating that
you know who He is. It means to know Him with an intimacy that is always
deepening. To paraphrase verse 6: In everything you do, get to know God
more and more, and He will always guide you.
“What are you learning about God through your current circumstances?”

Stepping out in Faith
WE ARE BUILDING AGAIN!
On the bi-annual meeting of LLBC the deacons, building committee and finance
committee made a joint motion that we step out in faith and begin Phase 2A of
the building Campaign. This phase would add a large room on the “river side”
of the old sanctuary that would help to facilitate fellowship, Sunday School and
Youth ministry. It would add approximately 900 sq feet to our existing facility. It
was decided by the members that we would only break ground on this phase
once we have enough funds to bring the building in the dry (ie. To finish the
outside completely). The cost of bringing it into the dry is approximately $35
000.00. We currently have $23 000 toward this project. It has been estimated
that this portion of the building (Phase 2A) will cost at total of $55 000.00 In
order for us to complete it at such a low cost demands that we have ample volunteer labor. Therefore we are in need of $12 000.00 to begin and then a further $20 000.00 in order to complete Phase 2A. It is once again our desire to
complete this phase of the building without entering into any debt.
Please pray about how God would have you get involved with this project. Your
prayers an d willingness to step out in faith is needed. Currently we need as
much volunteer labor and a further $32 000 to complete Phase 2A. God wants
to use you to help further His kingdom in Lake Lure. Are you wiling to take a
step in faith and get out of the comfort of the boat, and begin walking in faith?

Missions
Kids of the Kingdom
Missions - What is it and where does a love for missions begin?
We first start with the human condition as it relates to God. Our first parents, Adam
and Eve, sinned; they disobeyed God and therefore suffered the consequences of that
act of disobedience. That act resulted in death. Death was first the loss of unbroken
fellowship with God and subsequently physical death. The New Testament states it
this way. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
In the gospel of Matthew, chapter nineteen, a young man comes to Jesus and asks the
question, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” Jesus
answers by noting the observance of several of the commandments that are found in
Exodus chapter twenty. The young man responds that he has kept all of them and
asks what is he still lacking. Jesus responds by telling him to sell all that he has and
follow Him. This, the young man was unwilling to do for he owned much property.
The word translated “what do I lack” in Matthew 19:20, is the same word that we have
in Romans 3:23 noted above and translated as “fall short.” The young man realized
that he was lacking, he was falling short of a requirement in his relationship with God.
That requirement was the total surrender of his life to God as manifested by the surrender of his earthly riches.
Now, returning to our question, “Missions, what is it and where does a love for missions begin?” It begins with the recognition of our falling short of God’s requirement
and that is His glory. He is holy, perfect, and we are not. In Christ that deficit has
been met. When we receive the gift of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross on our behalf Jesus’ holiness is imputed to us. Jesus perfection, His holiness is accepted by the
Father on our behalf.
The love of missions is first a recognition that we individually and personally were lacking something in our relationship to God and that Jesus paid the price to bridge that
gap. In 2 Corinthians chapter five the apostle Paul is making a defense of his ministry
in relation to the Corinthians and he tells them that whether they think him insane or in
his right mind, what he does is for their benefit. His work and exertion on their behalf
is grounded in his understanding that if Christ died for all, it is because we were all
dead. It is this love of Christ, of which Paul has been a recipient, that constrains him,
moves him, impels him in the sharing of the gospel. A heart full of gratitude impels,
motivates Paul to suffer whatever hardships and misunderstandings are necessary in
order to tell others of the love of God as manifested in Christ.
What about me? Why should I be involved in missions? Why should my church be
involved in missions? We are committed to missions, the taking of the gospel message to the world, because we recognize that we had a lack, we fell short of the glory
of God and that was met in Christ. It is the love of Christ for us and our profound gratitude that now compels us take message to the world no matter what the cost.
As you read God’s Word in the weeks that follow, consider all that God has done for
you and then with a heart of gratitude, ask yourself, “What am I doing so that others
may know His love?” Let a heart of gratitude compel you.
Even though rain changed our plans, we still had a great time of fellowship with
mothers and daughters. Thank you to the Roosies, Redmon/Coyle, Rich, Logan/Shetley and Puchalas for attending. I challenged them to find an activity in
the craft book to continue to have time with each other after the event. Also to
make sure we are having family time especially with our daughters. They need
to know what a Proverbs 31 woman is like and we need to be that example.
What legacy are you leaving for your daughter? How are you connecting with
her? We need to make sure we are there for them and are communicating with
our daughters. They need to know we are always here for them. God has given us only a short time with our children. We need to take every opportunity we
are given to teach them God’s Word. We learned several ways to keep your
relationship open with your daughter. Having a mother/daughter devotion time,
start a journal to share with each other or find quiet time to talk every night with
your daughter. Dads don’t forget, this was a mother/daughter event but you are
a large influence to your daughter. You are an example of the Heavenly Father
to her and you need to make sure you are connected with your daughter too. It
is never too early or late to start. Connect together as a husband and wife and
find ways for the two of you to communicate and guide your daughters on the
path God has planned for them no matter what their age.
Mark your calendars for “Date Night” May 8th from 5-9:30pm. This will be the
last one until the fall. Make sure to take advantage of time with your better half.
Plus the kids LOVE a night to themselves. It is as much for them as the parents. Summer is a busy time so we won’t be having another event until July
27th. We will set up a lemonade stand at Cedar Creek Stables again from 103. This is a great way for the kids to help with the fundraising for God’s church.
It is as much their church as it is anyone’s and this is a great way for them to
show it and also for the adults to support them. I will need several volunteers to
help this be the success it was last year. They raised around $300 last year
with your help. People will be needed to help make lemonade and sweet treats
to sell. We also need people to help with manning the stand. The kids are
responsible for selling everything but will still need some adult supervision.
Please let me know if you are able to help with this great event. There is a Father/Son campout scheduled for July 31-Aug 1 at the church like last year. This
was a great event for dads and sons. More details will follow. Aug 28 will also
be a church wide pet show to help raise needed items for the Humane Society.
Don’t forget the trip to Dollywood in Sept. The children’s ministry is growing in
so many ways. Please join us for any and all events you are able. This is a
great time to impact the life of a child for God’s glory.
Please be in prayer for the children’s ministry. We are in need of more help on
both Sundays and Wednesdays as our church grows. Thank you to those who
have already offered to help. We not only need more members serving in the

The One You Really Need
What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the
Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding
is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength” (Isaiah 40:28–29, esv).
It’s hard enough to admit we need God; what’s even harder is to live like we need
Him. Successes in life can cripple us spiritually when we begin to view ourselves as
self-sufficient. When we rely on our money, talent, family, or hard work to fix everyday
problems, we don’t feel like we need God.
Ask the people of Israel about this brand of pride. They had just received news that
they were going to suffer incredible consequences as a discipline from God. Their
crime? They forgot who He was. They lost all sense of how great God is and how
much they needed Him. His presence demanded awe and they yawned. For multiple
generations, they had rebelliously, willfully, happily done their own thing—and God
said, in essence, “Enough!”
Facing doom, Isaiah’s audience cried out for the Lord. Isaiah answered with a moving
description of God’s awesome, unchanging nature. “Have you not known? Have you
not heard?” (Translation: Didn’t you get the memo?) “The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary.”
God is not like us. He’s everlasting; we have short, finite life spans. He never gets
tired; we range from drowsy to sleep deprived. He never feels overwhelmed; we are
drowning in demands. “His understanding is unsearchable”; our thought processes
are transparent and predictable.
God is so beyond us, and we need Him. The good news is He delivers exactly what
we’re desperate for in our weakest moments. “He gives power to the faint, and to him
who has no might he increases strength.” When your battery runs low, God offers
power. When you are weak, He dispenses His strength.
Yet some claim they don’t need the Lord—they have their own program. “I have my
act together. With a career plan and solid education, I’m heading in a good direction.
My future’s bright.” They may not say they don’t need God, but they live like it. If
that’s you, surrender your pride before He brings you low. Bow willingly before God
now. Don’t wait for Him to force you to your knees.
Like Isaiah’s original audience, you live in decadent days among people who disdain
and dilute God’s awesome character. Followers of Christ face a similar choice: flirt
with your perceived self-sufficiency until disaster comes, or admit your desperation
without Him.
When trouble comes, do you rely on yourself or depend on God? Do you take matters into your own hands or wait for God’s provision in His timing?
Everyone needs the Lord. The sooner you learn this, the more you experience His
power and strength.

Bible Reading: I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last. John 15:16
MEET DREW, the swimmer. Drew joined her first swim team in third grade and
never looked back. She won nearly every event she entered-freestyle, butterfly,
breast-stroke, and relays. In high school she won titles at state and junior national competi-tions. Two years into a brilliant college career, she qualified for
the Olympic team. Next summer Drew will compete in her first Olympics.
Meet Pete, the Christian. Pete is a talented individual, especially in theater. He
loves to sing, act, and perform. In high school he won the lead in several plays
and musicals. He was also a featured performer in his church’s drama ministry.
Everyone who knows Pete expects to see him on Broadway or in the movies
someday. He was offered a full scholarship to a prestigious acting school in
New York, but he turned it down to attend missionary training school. In six
months he will be traveling to the Philippines on an evangelistic drama team.
Two students, two totally different goals. For Drew, personal achievement is the
focus of life. Everything centers on excelling and winning. Pete is different. He
also has special skills, high goals, and notable achievements. But unlike Drew,
Pete’s ac-complishments don’t define Pete. He isn’t Pete the actor or Pete the
musician; he is Pete the Christian who acts and sings. To Pete, serving Christ is
more important than his personal goals. He sees his gifts and talents as instruments for serving Christ, and his choices confirm his beliefs.
No matter what skills and talents you possess, God’s first call on your life is to
use those skills and talents to “produce fruit that will last. ” In the Bible, fruit refers both to your inner character qualities and to the impact of those qualities on
the watching world. Pete’s first goal is to be the person Christ wants him to be
so his life will bring others to Christ. He knows that fame and fortune won’t last
forever, but people who trust Christ through the witness of his character and
message will.
So does that mean that a Christian can’t be an Olympic athlete or a Broadway
actor? Absolutely not. Just don’t let your identity be defined by these pursuits. If
you have trusted Christ, you are a Christian first, last, and always. Anything else
you do and anything else you achieve is temporary at best. Be filled with the
living Christ. Be focused on his purposes for your life. Then go do your best at
anything and every-thing he has gifted you to be.
REFLECT: Have you let your talents-rather than your faith in Christ define
your life? How might God want to reshape your priorities and goals?
PRAY: God, I put you first. Help me focus first on your purposes for my
life.
