Proud to offer local seniors “home” for 20 years
T
wenty years ago, a gallon of gas was $1.04, the Dow
Jones closed above 5,000 for the first time, the 55 milesper-hour speed limit was rescinded, and O.J. Simpson
was found innocent. And 1995 was also the first year
of operation for Ecumen Lakeview Commons, a unique
senior living community located in Maplewood, off
McKnight Road across from Beaver Lake.

For two decades, many have chosen
to call Lakeview Commons "home."
Excelling in providing assisted living
and memory care, the community
is perfect for those with higher care
needs who still want a private residence, access to exceptionally trained
care staff and an engaging lifestyle
with a person-centered approach.
"If you are considering living here,
chances are you will be leaving behind
another home you've had for many
years. We know how hard that transition can be for some people. We focus on getting to know each resident
individually so that they can become
part of our extended family," says Jen
Rasmussen, the Lakeview Commons
Life Enrichment Director for over 12
years.
A visit to Lakeview Commons says it
all. When you come through the front
door, you are likely to find residents
socializing in the lobby — discussing
current events, reading a book from
the library, playing cards or just chatting. This is a true community. Both
staff and residents genuinely enjoy
being with one another.
Glory Hill, Housing Manager, is
proud of the unique feeling of her
community. "The charm of Lakeview Commons is the life within. Yet,
the strength of our community is our
dedicated staff," Hill says. The trained
clinical staff can assist residents with
a variety of health care needs, including companion services, medication
management, dressing and grooming,
diabetes monitoring and much more,
thus Lakeview Commons can serve
people with a higher acuity than most
assisted livings.
"We also have the very popular Dakim brain fitness technology to keep
our residents’ minds sharp and to
help them remain intellectually independent as long as possible," she adds.
The Lakeview Commons team is
also expert at supporting those resi-
dents with memory loss. The staff has
a wealth of knowledge and expertise
in understanding issues around aging and changes in cognition. The
memory care program is a part of
the Ecumen Awakenings program, a
nationally-recognized award-winning
approach to improving the daily lives
of dementia residents through various alternative approaches.
Longevity of the staff is an important
ingredient in the success of Lakeview
Commons. To prove this point, Glen
Glancy has been in charge of the meal
prep and presentation for 12 years.
"We pride ourselves on our food and
dining experience. The restaurantstyle offerings include daily specials
at each of the three daily meals, plus
homemade salads, an a la carte 'sandwich board' with 15 sandwiches to
choose from and fresh-baked desserts," Glancy states. According to
him, the professional dining staff
takes great care in creating and serving food which residents and guests
thoroughly enjoy. The three meals a
day are included in the monthly rent
for both assisted living and memory
care.
So, if you or a loved one need daily
help yet are searching for the perfect
new place to call home, search no further. Ecumen Lakeview Commons has
the perfect blend of floor plans and
care packages, and its longevity of
20 years is a testament to its success.
"We have experienced and committed
staff, a great reputation among physicians and other clinical professionals, and beautiful mature woods and
grounds surrounding us!" Hill says.
