Most of us will experience some kind of automobile-related emergency in our lifetime. It could be a tire blowout, dead battery, or something more severe. Here is a list of things every car should have in it. 1) Filled spare tire or donut – a flat spare does you no good. 2) Working Jack – That you know how to use. 3) Jumper cables – Jumper cables can save you time you would have spent waiting for a tow truck or good Samaritan. If you are stuck at night in the snow on the side of the road, jumper cables can be the difference between getting home or not. 4) Flashlight – So you can see what you are doing. 5) Snow Scraper – If your windshield freezes while driving you can’t see anything. 6) Tire repair spray – This wonderful invention can seal small holes from the inside and fill your tire. 7) First aid kit – Accidents do happen. This should ideally be kept within easy reach of the driver’s seat, and should include a whistle, emergency blanket and pack of matches. 8) Extra cash – A small amount of cash hidden in your car can help with any number of sit- uations. 9) Road flares or other distress signal – Another piece of standard equipment that is no longer standard equipment. 10) Water and shelf stable food – every year people are forced to spend the night in their car. 11) Fire extinguisher – Internal combustion engines create a lot of heat. 12) Cell phone charger – or power pack 13) Auto escape tool – designed to cut seatbelts and break a window if trapped in a submerged car. Many different models exist, some can be attached to your visor or key chain. All these items can be purchased at your local automotive supplier and are inexpensive. Take an inventory of your car and make sure you have what you need. Having these 13 items in your car can turn an emergency into a minor inconvenience.
