Don’t’ Wait To Discuss Drugs
Elementary school is not too early to discuss use and misuse of alcohol and drugs – both prescription and illegal. Research shows that elementary age kids often must face the decision whether or not to try them. Kids often think if a
drug is legal, it’s safe. It is important that they know over-the-counter drugs and alcohol can be just as dangerous as
illegal drugs. Together, read the warning labels, research side effects, and stress the importance of following directions. Keep children busy, help build positive self-esteem, and do not associate maturity with alcohol or drug use. But
the best thing is for parents to be positive role models by using drugs and alcohol responsibly.

Tips to Reduce Test Anxiety
Most students who take a test experience some anxiety or nervousness. But for some students, the feeling is
so intense that it affects their performance. Anxiety can cause difficulty in concentration and prevent students from recalling material that they have learned. A student who is experiencing test anxiety may do poorly
on an exam even if he or she knows the material better than a classmate who is able to control anxiety. However, there are things that students can do to prevent or reduce test anxiety.
*Being well prepared for the test is the best way to reduce test taking anxiety.
*Try to maintain a positive attitude while preparing for the test and during the test.
*Get a good night’s sleep before the test.
*Stay relaxed, if you begin to get nervous take a few deep breathes slowly to relax yourself and then get back
to work.
