Entry Psalm Psalm 48
Leader : The Lord is great and is to be highly praised in the city of
our God, on his sacred hill.
People: Zion, the mountain of God, is high and beautiful;
the city of the great king brings joy to all the world.
God has shown that there is safety with him inside the fortresses
of the city.
The kings gathered together and came to attack Mount Zion.
But when they saw it, they were amazed; they were afraid and ran away.
There they were seized with fear and anguish, like a woman
about to bear a child, like ships tossing in a furious storm.
We have heard what God has done, and now we have seen it in the
city of our God, the Lord Almighty; he will keep the city safe for ever.
Inside your Temple, O God, we think of your constant love.
You are praised by people everywhere, and your fame extends
over all the earth.
You rule with justice; let the people of Zion be glad! You give right
judgements; let there be joy in the cities of Judah!
People of God, walk round Zion and count the towers;
Take notice of the walls and examine the fortresses, so that you

Prayer of the Day
Let us pray for strength in weakness.
Almighty and merciful God, your Son revealed the wonder of
your saving love in signs and miracles. Renew your people by
your loving kindness, and sustain us in all our weakness by
your mighty power. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ
our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

From Hanna Schulz’s Prayer Update
Language learning is progressing slowly, but it is progressing. I had many good
sessions of sitting with local women to do structured learning activities. During
these I would make recordings of words and phrases that I would then listen to
later. People get sick of repeating the same thing a dozen times, but my voice
recorder keeps playing them for me to listen to. I was also writing down many
things and building a collection of flash cards to help me memorise vocabulary.
While not doing formal language learning I was listening hard to everyday conversations and trying to identify words I knew. At this stage that is still very
hard. I was often frustrated that someone would ask me something, I would not
understand, but when they said it very very slowly, I knew every word in the
sentence. It will take me awhile to understand normal speed speech, but I am
building a foundation towards that goal. I praise God for all the things I was able
to learn, for the good times sitting with women and all the language data I now
have to work with. Please pray that I can continue my language learning
(through recording, flash cards and notes) successfully while I am in Ukarumpa
so that I return with my knowledge solidified rather than faded.
Over the coming weeks I plan to do a lot of writing about different observations
and reflections on village life and work. These will be posted on : blessingsandbubbles.blogspot.com.au hopefully one each Friday morning.
Thank you for praying for me and journeying with me. I am encouraged to know
that you are with me in spirit, even though you can't be with me in person.

Manse Renovations Update.
Over the past few weeks, you’re probably well aware that our builders have
been steadily working through the renovations, making excellent progress
despite some hurdles and challenges along the way.
After demolition was completed several issues were uncovered in regards to
the way the house was originally built. Unfortunately the original roof structure
was not built to comply with the required Australian standards, resulting in the
roof sagging over the years as well as the ceilings being installed incorrectly.
Modifications to the structure needed to be completed to make the roof
suitable for lining with new ceilings and so the remainder of the works could
continue.
As well as issues with the roof structure, the electrical wiring throughout the
house had also been installed incorrectly and not to the relevant standards.
In order for the scheduled works to continue as well as to comply with current
standards, the wiring to all new light and power circuits needed to be rewired
and a new sub board installed to accommodate the new circuits. Multiple
faults were located in areas of the house that were not scheduled to be
completed as part of the renovations, which needed to be rectified to comply.
Finally, the gutter to the carport was installed incorrectly resulting in water
running back into the roof space and rotting the timber rafters. This needed
to be rectified to secure the existing structure and to ensure damage didn’t
occur in the future.
The church council worked alongside the builders to find the most cost
effective solution to rectifying the issues whilst still complying with relevant
codes and completing the works to a high standard. Although contingencies
were allowed for in budgeting for the project, incorrect and non-compliant
works in the existing structure, were far beyond what was reasonable to expect
prior to commencing the renovations and were only able to be assessed once
demolition had been completed.
The works so far.
Demolition:
Stripping out of old kitchen and laundry cabinetry, removal of existing ceilings
and floor coverings that require replacing, removal of existing
timber/aluminium windows and new brickwork as per proposed design.

New works:
All gutters, fascia’s, downpipes and eaves linings removed and replaced with
new as well as new weatherboard cladding & barge boards to front facade.
New ceiling lining to back porch and carport. New internal ceilings, cornices
and lighting as well as new kitchen and laundry cabinetry. New aluminium
windows and sliding doors to living, dining & kitchen area. New laundry/kitchen dividing wall and replacing of existing damaged internal doors.
Plasterboard lining of existing face brick walls to living area.
Still to go for the builders works:
Final plastering to living area along with tiling to laundry and toilet floor, and
splash backs to laundry & kitchen. Plumbing fit off to toilet, kitchen and
laundry.
What next?:
Once the builders works are completed, the outside contractors works
(including new carpets, roof restoration, new blinds) and members works
(including internal/ external painting and laying of new laminated flooring)
will need to be completed. A schedule of works and possible dates for busy
bees will be created shortly to give members the opportunity to donate their
time towards completing the works.
