The SwimSafe scheme by Merlin Swimming Pools is designed to
give the pool owner the maximum benefit from their swimming pool

The scheme runs between May and October and offers the following:

SPRING COMMISSION
At the end of the winter you will need to commission your swimming pool
to prepare for the coming season.
There are no hard and fast rules as to when to do this, it is entirely up to you. The following
factors however, do need to be taken into consideration:
Once the weather starts to warm up the algae will start to grow. A winter cover is not a deterrent
and you will have to start treating the water chemically.

• Commissioning early means that you do not miss out on the first of the warm
swimming weather.
• Once commissioned, you do not need to start your heater until the weather is ready.
• Easter usually heralds the start of the season and children will be at home and
wanting to swim.
• As your Local SPATA Maintenance company, we will take away the worry of “doing it yourself” and ensure a professional eyes is cast over the whole system.
As a guideline, work comprises of:
• Remove winter cover from the swimming pool, clean it off, fold it and store away.
• Clean the coping stones to remove any mould or algae growth.
• If necessary re-assemble all the filtration and heating equipment in the plant room.
• Start the equipment and thoroughly test it. Heaters will not be left running unless specific
instructions have been received.
• De-Leaf swimming pool and vacuum or set the pool cleaner in operation.
• Check and adjust the chemical levels.
• Generally tidy and clean the swimming pool area and plant room.
Once the swimming pool has been commissioned it is a good idea to run the filter continually
for the first few days, backwashing daily, to thoroughly clean and make the water shine.
Thereafter you can revert to the normal regular weekly routine.

Remember if you have an appointment with us to check your pool water a week prior to
our engineers visit. If the pool water is green we advise you to add liquid chlorine, this
will kill the algae, clear the water and save you a second visit!
