A Message from your Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term 2.
The children are enthusiastic and are settling well into routine.
Welcome to our new students and their families this term. Andrea and Bella Rose in
Prep, Emma in Grade 3 and Sophie Lee in Grade 4.
Staff spent the first day of Term being introduced to the KidsMatter and The CAFÉ
framework for literacy. The day was well organized and well run. Thank you to Mrs
Pratt, Mrs Davine and Mrs Alexander for presenting on the day. You can read more
about these initiatives in the Curriculum section of this newsletter.
This morning we had our annual ANZAC Ceremony at the monument. This ceremony
was organised and led by the school captains and Junior School Council, who did a
remarkable job. Well done to all students for showing maturity and being respectful
throughout the service.

Canteen
Your child may have already told you that we now have a new process for the sale of ice
creams through lunch orders.
Up until the start of this term, canteen staff have been keeping a list of ice creams paid
for with lunch orders and have been crossing them off as students appear at the canteen
to collect them. Over time, this process has become unmanageable, with this list continually growing due to students
not necessarily collecting ice creams on the day they are ordered.
To address this issue, we have introduced a token system, whereby tokens for icecreams are placed in the lunch bags
as orders are filled. The students then use these tokens to collect their icecreams during the lunch break.
Can parents please make sure that if their child wants to purchase an ice cream at recess, that they have
money separate to that placed in their lunch order. Otherwise they will not be able to collect their ice cream
until lunch time.
This process will not only reduce the workload of our very hardworking volunteers in the canteen, it will also help to
teach our students to be more responsible for their own belongings.
Thank you for your understanding.
Parents and Friends
Thank you to all the families and students who contributed and ran in our School Fun Run,. With your continued support we made a profit of $3200, to help towards our fire prevention facilities.
Congratulations again to A’mon and Isla Mondon who raised the highest amount with a total of $1020, well done.
Special thank you to Addie and John De Nittis (business Safeman Australia) for donating all of the t-shirts, and Angela (Bella’s mum) for donating the drinks for the fun run, and to those parents who helped in the canteen on the day,
Without you this wouldn’t have been possible.
Thank you to all who donated or assisted in the Easter raffle and making it another success, we managed to make
$744. These funds where used to purchase the Dictionaries/Thesauruses, for our Grade 5 Students, that were
handed out at last weeks school assembly.
Letters went home this week for our Trivia Night which is being held on the 15th May 2015, Please make sure you
purchase your tickets to this great event. There will be lots of Prizes, games, raffles and silent auctions, so get in
quick so you don’t miss out.
Your support and contributions are greatly appreciated.

tiqbiz
Thank you to the families who have registered for tiqbiz.
We still have 9 families yet to come on board, so we will be repeating this notice in each edition of the newsletter
until we have everyone registered.
It is extremely important that we have 100% commitment from families with regard to the
use of this app as it is now being used as our primary tool for communication with families
in the case of an emergency.
If you are yet to register for tiqbiz, please do so asap. If you are unsure how to do this, please either call or come
and see me in the office for assistance.
The tiqbiz app helps keep parents fully informed and up to date with news and events and is also very easy to use.
It can be used on any smartphone (including iPhone), iPad or computer and the instructions on how to set each of
these up are included on the next two pages of this newsletter.
Once you are using tiqbiz, you will have access to current and previous newsletters, the school
website, calendar and even the canteen menu, all from the School Inbox. You will also be able
to notify the school when your child is
absent, rather than having to send a note on their return.
If you have any trouble setting tiqbiz up on your device, please call the tiqbiz technical support team on
9800 1489 between 8.30am and 5.30pm weekdays. Their friendly staff are more than happy
to step you through the process.

News from the classrooms
Term 2 began with the Staff spending the day being introduced to KidsMatter and The Daily 5 and CAFÉ.
is an Australian mental health and wellbeing initiative for all educational settings.
KidsMatteris a whole school approach that focuses on nuturing our children’s mental health and wellbeing, in order for them to
be happy well balanced children. This is achieved by focusing on:

creating positive school and early childhood communities

teaching children skills for good social and emotional development

working together with families

recognising and getting help for children with mental health problems
KidsMatter is funded by the Australian Government and Beyondblue, and is a partnership between education and health sectors. It has been developed by experts - mental health professionals and education and childcare staff
Being mentally healthy is vital for learning and for leading a rewarding life.
The Daily 5 is a structure that helps children develop the daily habits of reading and fosters independence.
CAFÉ is an acronym for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expand Vocabulary. Together these pieces make up a good
reader.
More information about both will follow in future newsletters.

OSHClub
Dear Families,
We hope everyone had a great break and got some time to relax amongst the hectic home time that
is school holidays! We had a good rest here, so we’re keen to jump back into some great activities
for the kids over the coming weeks, so without further ado, here are some of the things we have
lined up for Term 2.
Sports and Outdoor Activities – The seasons have well and truly changed now and we are starting
to see the colder mornings and windy afternoons rolling through—but this won’t stop our outdoor
activities from going ahead. With the Footy season underway we’re keen to get back into some different Football Games and Activities as well as some little matches from time to time. We’ve still
seen no end in sight for the group’s great interest in Soccer, so we will be fostering development in
skills relating to that as much as we can and lastly, Obstacle courses and time trials have been
requested so we are going to make some fun activities out of those suggestions as well!
Homework and Readers – We had great involvement from the group last Term with their Homework and Readers and will be continuing to encourage the group to get as much of their work done
as they can in our allocated times here of a morning and afternoon. We are happy to help anyone
who wants to get their work finished before heading home and make sure we give the group as
much attention as they need while completing their work. Plus, it helps us make sure we’re on top of
our own reading and school aged work skills too, very important!
Arts and Crafts – We’ve already got cracking on some artwork for the Term, with Footy Posters
going up this week, as well as some great painting getting underway at Before School Care. We have
some mini canvases lined up for another group crayon melt for the kids to take home as well as a
Tie Dye session planned for the coming weeks. It’s gonna be fun, and a bit messy and we’re all looking forward to it!
Healthy Breakfasts and Afternoon Teas - With a new Term comes a whole lot of new suggestions
for food and snacks at the program, unfortunately we cannot cater to some of our funnier requests
for McDonald’s every day, but we will be doing our best to keep it interesting and far healthier
than that! We’ve had some great suggestions for different fruits and vegetables the kids like and
we’re ready to get some more cooking activities going with the group so they can put the fresh produce that they love so much to work, and make some interesting snacks for themselves to have of a
morning or afternoon.
We really pride ourselves here on providing a fun and supportive environment for the kids to play,
learn, relax and have fun in of a morning and afternoon and would really encourage everyone to
come check out what we have going on or just come in to see some friends before or after school.
If you have any questions about the program or are interested in having a look, come and visit us
out in the big blue room at the back of the school and myself or one of our great assistants will be
happy to have a chat with you about our fantastic program as well as provide any information you
might need about bookings, fees or just how the program works!
It’s great to be back for Term 2, so I’ll see you around the school!
