FROM THE SCHOOL COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Thank you to all of you who have so far contributed to the Jo
Regester Student Welfare Fund. As a School Council we have
been overwhelmed by the level of support we have received
so far.
I'm really pleased to say we have been able to use the Fund
this year to provide support and assistance to several families
in our community and will continue to be able to provide
assistance to families who are doing it tough.
The Jo Regester Student Welfare Fund is a great initiative and
recognises and remembers the contribution Jo made to our
school. Please remember donations can be made at any time
at the office. No amount is too small to make a difference.
Equally important to our community is funding for our school.
A couple of weeks ago we sent home a petition to be tabled in
State Parliament seeking the honouring of the previous
Governments commitment to us of $1.8m.
Well can you believe that we are already at the end of Term
1? The weeks just seem to have flown past.
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate our very own
Margaret Gill on 50 years of service to the Victorian Education
System. Marg has had such a wonderful influence on so many
children over the years and teaching has remained her
passion over such an amazing career. On Tuesday, we
celebrated Marg’s fantastic achievement and Neil Angus, our
local Member of Parliament, came
along to the morning tea and
presented Marg with a certificate
honouring her 50 years of service.
Margaret is now leaving on Long
Service Leave for the remainder of
the year and we wish her a wellearned break. I would also like to
wish Mrs Leeanne King and Mr Toby
Keen a wonderful extra long break as
they both take some Long Service
Leave for the first few weeks of Term 2.
The Year 6 students returned from their camp to Canberra,
very tired but full of stories about their week away. They
visited among many other things, the old and new Parliament
House, the National Gallery, War Memorial and the amazing
Questacon. It was marvellous to hear wonderful comments
from the children along the lines of how much they learnt
while away. A huge thank you to the staff who went on camp!
It is a big sacrifice to be away from their respective families
and their personal lives. As a community I know you will join
me in thanking our staff who each year are prepared to go on
school camps.
School Philosophy

promotes learning, personal growth and wellbeing for all students. We strive to develop adaptability and resilience

YEAR 6 CANBERRA CAMP
Students from our school have recently undertaken an
educational tour of the national capital. Students were given the
opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs
with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and
democracy. The Australian Government recognises the
importance of all young Australians being able to visit the
national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the
Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student
under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program
towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school
upon completion of the excursion.
CANTEEN NEWS
Well, here we are at the end of first term already and I’m sure
everyone is looking forward to a relaxing holiday. I’m very happy
to report that we had another successful Sushi Day on Monday,
with a large amount of orders placed. I would like to extend a
huge thankyou to the volunteer team who processed the orders
efficiently and distributed them on time, for all to enjoy their
sushi. Also, to all the volunteers who contributed to the
preparation last week, thank you. These special lunch days
would not be possible without your assistance, many thanks to
you all for the constant support. The new rosters will be
available before the end of term. Please keep in mind that if your
rostered days do not suit you, please let me know and I can
make the necessary changes. I would also like to remind parents
that if your children do not receive the correct lunch orders,
please encourage them to come straight back to canteen on that
day and their lunch will be rectified or replaced immediately.
Wishing you all a great holiday and a very Happy Easter. Looking
forward to seeing you all next term.

‘The Lemon Exchange’ is a school
community service for Orchard Grove
families - where those who have an
abundance of lemons donate some, and
those that may need a lemon or two can go
and collect a few.
The Junior School Council is organising a dress up day to raise
funds to support Very Special Kids. Very Special Kids is a
children’s charity that supports sick children and their families.
On the 27th of March (the last day of term), we ask that children
come to school dressed up as a superhero! They can come as
one of many familiar characters, or they can get creative and
invent their own fabulous superhero!
Please bring a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go to Very
Special Kids to help them with supporting sick children and their
families through the hardest time of their lives.
REGIONAL SWIMMING
We had a very successful Regional Swimming Meet with several
students achieving PBs.

mention and thank you to their parents for taking them to the
event.

UNIFORM SHOP
The next second hand uniform sale will be on Wednesday, 29th
April from 9.15 - 9.45am in the Community Room.
So... we need lots of generous lemon tree owners to again drop
off any spare lemons to the box located near the staffroom. You
can be sure that your lemons will find a good home and help
make something tasty even more delicious. Thank you.

SPANISH CORNER
Hola from Spain!
Hola everyone. I’m having a wonderful experience here in Vigo.
I’m speaking Spanish all day, every day. The course is giving me
lots of valuable ideas and materials to use in class. The photo
below shows the view from the bus on the way to the university.
