Mr Adair has recently been at Connolly PS and before that he was working at Warriependi PS. Mr Adair will be with us until the end of the year and we hope that he enjoys being at Roseworth as much as the rest of us do. You may have already seen Mr Adair out in the playground or in the classrooms getting to know our students and teachers. We look forward to working with Mr Adair and showing him all the great programs and activities we have at Roseworth. May I take this opportunity to thank the staff and parents who have been very supportive during my time as Principal since the beginning of the year. We have had a very busy start to the year, with many activities, shows and special events and I look forward to all the other fun things that are to come during the remainder of the year. SDD and PUBLIC HOLIDAY Term 2 is another 10 week term, which finishes on Friday 4th July, and includes a number of exciting events for our students, staff and parents. We do have a Public holiday on Monday 2nd June and a School Development Day the Friday before this on Friday 30th May - on both these days students will not be required to attend school. Staff will be involved in a Planning Day on the SDD and I’m sure we will all be looking forward to the long weekend coming up. BOOK FAIR and OPEN AFTERNOON Next week we will be having our annual BOOK FAIR. This is a great opportunity to purchase good quality books at reasonable prices and all purchases help our Library too. The Book Fair is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week and we are combining the Book Fair on Wednesday 28th May with our “Open Afternoon”. We are inviting parents/carers to come to school and have a picnic lunch and then visit classroom during the afternoon to be part of some Values Education games and activities with your children. The focus of the Open Afternoon will be Values Education and we would like to showcase some of the activities and strategies we are implementing in the classrooms on a regular basis. Please come along and join in the fun with our classes. Please invite Grandma and Grandpa too!!! STAFFING UPDATE E3 - Mrs Foreman finished up with us towards the end of Term 2 as she was expecting the birth of her first child. Miss Chantelle Edwards has capably taken over the class in E3 and will be there for the remainder of the year. Mrs Edwards has settled in well and the transition from teacher to teacher has been a very smooth one, thanks to the hard work of both teachers. W7 – Mrs Bennett will be going on Maternity Leave at the end of Week 5. We are still in the process of finalising a replacement teacher for the class and will advise parents as soon as we know who will be replacing Mrs Bennett. NAPLAN - WEEK 3 The NAPLAN Testing Program is for all students in Years 3, 5, & 7 in our school and tests were held during last week, as they were in all schools. We had tests on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday being used as a “Catch-Up” if students were sick/absent at all during the week. A big thank you to Mrs Roser who co-ordinated the NAPLAN Testing Program and to the teachers involved in administering the tests during the week. POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT IN OUR YEAR 6/7 CLASSES Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a framework / approach comprising of effective practices, interventions and systems change strategies for establishing a social culture needed to achieve academic and social success for all students. Our Yr 6/7 classrooms are trialling PBS and implementing this during the term. The Yr 6/7 teachers were involved in a one day Professional Development Workshop, with the CMS staff on site, last week. They have begun to work with the students and parents to implement this approach in the classrooms over the past couple of weeks. PBS builds on existing strengths, complementing and organising current programming and strategies and we look forward to the positive changes the implementation of PBS will bring. INTERSCHOOL SPORT We have again started our Interschool Sport Program for Term 2. We are competing in three sports - Netball, Soccer and Football and all students involved represented the school in a very capable and sensible manner so far. As always, we expect our students representing the school to be well behaved and have an appropriate level of attendance in order to be considered for selection in our teams. We play Hudson Park this Friday and the games are here at Roseworth. We welcome parents/carers who would like to support our teams to come along to watch the games on the oval (football), netball courts (netball) and Ferrara Park (soccer). The weekly interschool games culminate in a Winter Carnival at the end of term. This will be held at Dryandra PS on the Friday of Week 9 (27th June). AFL MULTICULTURAL GALA DAY Miss Collier and our Yr 6/7 teachers have organised for some of our students from Years 6/7 to participate in the AFL Multicultural Gala Day last Monday. This was an AFL - inclusive event aiming to welcome new players from all backgrounds and skill levels to Aussie Rules Football. It is a 9-a-side AFL tournament which had AFL skill stations and was supported by West Coast Eagles players. Throughout the day our students were involved in a round robin tournament under the exciting new AFL format known as AFL9s. Well done to Miss Collier for continually organising fantastic activities for our students. Thank you also to Mr Bennett and Miss Riley who accompanied the students to the Gala Day. RAPP We have 6 families attending our very successful Roseworth And Parents Program (RAPP) this semester. Our second night was last night and everyone involved has enjoyed the activities and sessions on offer at RAPP. Thanks to the Canteen staff for catering for the RAPP sessions and to the teaching staff and EA’s for assisting to run the program. OUR 2013 ANNUAL REPORT Our school has a website which has been designed to be informative and useful and we hope that you find it easy to navigate. There are class pages for your children and their teachers to upload events and activities going on in their classrooms and around the school which already have a wide variety of articles and photos for your view. The website can be found at www.roseworthps.wa.edu.au . Links to newsletters and school documents can also be found on the site as well as history of our school and other interesting and relevant information for existing, new and prospective families. Please enjoy the website and we will keep it updated with all of the news and events happening at our school. The school Annual Report for 2013 is on our school website so you might like to have a look at the 2013 highlights. We raised $270 and hope all the mothers who received gifts enjoyed them. Thank you to all who donated the merchandise and their time to the stall. We will be sending home cookie dough forms next week, this is a great fundraiser for our school. Last year we made the equivalent of six iPads in profit. Delivery will be in the last week of Term 2. Let’s try to make it even better this year! Uniforms: Uniform shop is only open on Tuesdays now from 8.30am till 9.30am. If you would like a uniform outside of this time you can either put an order in an envelope with cash and hand in to the office or see Jessica in the office or canteen. Canteen: Jane is working hard in the canteen to provide our children with healthy lunches and the winter menu is now available. The canteen is there to not only provide well priced nutritious lunches but to raise money for our school. Jane and the volunteers also provide catering for events such as RAPP. Without the support of the school community and Jane’s superior management skills the canteen cannot survive. Buying lunch once a week for your child can act as a great reward for a good week at school, or home and takes the pressure off the early morning rush to get to school. Next P&C Meeting: Thursday June 19th in the staff room at 2.00pm. School Banking: A big welcome to our new School Bankers. It is fantastic to hear some of the goals that students have for the money they are saving, some are even saving for their first car. It is exciting and certainly impressive to hear some of the goals being set. Some students have already received their bronze certificates and may have noticed that they are receiving a gold token with their certificate. The gold tokens are keepsakes and therefore not eligible to be used for redeeming rewards. It is 10 silver tokens that are eligible to redeem rewards. Well done to those consistent savers who have already received their bronze certificates. We have several more who are very close so keep on saving. Due to the long weekend where there is a Staff Development Day on Friday the 30th of May, School Banking will open on Thursday the 29th of May at the usual time instead for those wishing to bank. We are hoping one of our students is a winner in the fantastic competition running this term. Paula Green, School Banking Co-ordinator Thanks Roseworth P&C DID YOU KNOW?
