Development Director
Part-Time, Contracted Position
The Miners Foundry Cultural Center mission is to enhance, preserve and utilize the historic
Miners Foundry for cultural, social and educational purposes. It is a symbol of California’s rich
historical heritage, providing an educational and social bridge from our past to the present and
future.
The Development Director plays a lead role in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major
donors for major and annual gifts, and works closely with the Executive Director to create a
culture of donor stewardship and recognition and to achieve the Foundry’s development goals.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Board you will build create and implement a
strategic development plan. Priorities include, but are not limited to, generating a diverse base
of support from major donors, individuals, memberships, corporations, foundations and public
agencies. A successful candidate will have the experience necessary to raise funds in a variety of
ways as well as a track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual
donors and corporations.

Development Director
Overall Responsibilities




Develop a fund development plan with Executive Director and Board.
Complete annual budget forecasts with Executive Director, ensure current information
tracking and reporting systems support fundraising goals and activities.
Enlist, maintain and support the involvement of the Foundry’s Board of Directors, staff,
volunteers and donors in the Foundry’s fundraising.
Coordinate with the Operations Manager to ensure that pledges, gifts, grants and other
revenues are properly recorded in financial records, forecasts and budgets and that
grant budgets and reports align.
Memberships & Major Donors
Develop creative and engaging membership drives to take place twice annually. Identify and
solicit new members, increasing membership on an annual basis.
Work with marketing personnel to build messaging and materials for two annual membership
drives and two annual giving campaigns.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to steward major donors as part of
these campaigns.
Corporate Sponsorships

Maintain a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and
solicitation of individual, local corporate sponsorships.
Outreach





Plan and coordinate projects, activities and at least one major fundraising event to
achieve fundraising goals.
Work closely with the Executive Director and marketing personnel while overseeing the
production of case statements, brochures and sponsorship proposals required to
support development efforts.
Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the Foundry’s mission within the funding
community.
Prioritize donor stewardship: create systems to ensure that all donors are immediately
and appropriately thanked; receive regular communication from the Foundry; and
periodic complimentary invitations to events and receptions.
Complete annual budget forecasts with Executive Director. Develop and implement
information tracking and reporting systems to support fundraising goals and activities.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:








At least 3-5 years’ experience managing a complex, nonprofit development program
including annual and capital giving strategies.
Bachelor’s degree in fundraising, business, marketing, finance, resource development or
a related field.
Knowledge of private and non-profit sectors.
A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual
donors, corporate and foundation grants.
Demonstrated results in organizing and implementing the following activities: capital
campaign, major gifts, annual gifts, corporate and foundation giving, grants
administration, direct mail and special events and membership.
Excellent analytical skills to develop plans and budget for all fundraising activities.
Knowledge of donor database systems.
Ability to implement online marketing programs, social networking, and to use the
website and social media for fundraising and donor cultivation.





Outstanding interpersonal, communication, writing, editing, and public speaking skills.
Ability to gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including board and
staff members, donors and foundation, corporate and civic leaders.
An interest or experience in the cultural and historical organizations.
An entrepreneurial, flexible and resourceful spirit.
A positive outlook, sense of humor and passion for what we do!
This is a part-time contracted position. The contracted rate is competitive and dependent upon
the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
