Print the Instagram Postings Handout on cardstock and have students place their Instagram Family Trees on the wall. The cardstock holds up well while students go around and comment on their peers’ posts. - Do you have a student who might be embarrassed about sharing his or her family? Consider having them choose the Spanish royal family instead of their own. If you’d like to offer more families, consider having them use a famous singer, athlete, or actress from a Spanish speaking country. You may want to do some front work to make sure the chosen celebrity has at least 4 members in their family. - As for picture sizes, on the Instagram Postings Handouts you see that your students have some flexibility. There are two templates that are 4”x6”. There are some other smaller templates. I recommend that you ask students to bring pictures that can be cropped and resized and use one of the other sizes that I’ve included. You could also give students the Instagram Postings Handouts at the beginning, so that students can compare the pictures they have with the size of the posting they want to use. - It is up to you if students can draw pictures on the Instagram Postings Handouts. It is quite possible to allow students to draw their family members, but I personally believe the project will lose some of its value without real images. - Instead of using this paper-based project, consider actually using Instagram! Of course, you must check with your school to make sure this is allowed. o If you decide to do this digitally, I recommend you create a school related account for yourself. Students can then include you in the post! For example, my school friendly account is CMEspanol. Students tag me in the post and my account will notify me so I can look at the posts later. o Have students add #spanishfamilytree, #frenchfamilytree, or language appropriate tag. o Have students hashtag the family vocabulary they have learned. For example, “Mi #hermana se llama Aimee. Mi #hermana es de Michigan.” o Specify if you want other vocabulary hashtagged. Be careful though – it is too much if they hashtag every word they have ever learned in another language.
