Edgewood College Adjunct Instructor for CHES Certified Nursing Assistant Program 2015-2016 Academic Year Job Responsibilities: The Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation (CHES) is hiring a Primary Instructor to develop and teach in the Nursing Assistant program. The position includes course development, classroom instruction, and clinical instruction in the Nursing Assistant program. Initial responsibilities include collaboration with CHES staff to develop the course and prepare the application to Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services (DHS) in order to become an approved Certified Nurse Aide site. Once approved through DHS, responsibilities will shift to teaching. Instruction occurs both in the classroom and in a long-term care setting. Objectives are to develop students’ knowledge and skills followed by demonstration of competence of Nursing Assistant practices in a long-term care setting. Each course in the Nursing Assistant program will be120 hours. Courses will be offered during Spring/Summer and Winterim terms and structured as 3-week courses or 6-week courses. They may be scheduled as daytime or evening courses. The Primary Instructor is required to commit to at least one full course annually and may be required to teach during the day, evening, or weekend. Primary Duties Develop Nursing Assistant program curriculum in conjunction with CHES staff and in accordance with standards set forth by Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services (DHS).Assist with recruitment/identification of additional Primary Instructors for subsequent course offerings. Prepare for, deliver instruction, and perform other teaching-related activities. Communicate and plan effectively with clinical site staff. Collaborate with CHES center staff to prepare classroom/laboratory. Maintain course effectiveness; assist in course evaluations and integrate revisions as appropriate. Assess student performance and advise students to aid their success. Attend CHES center meetings as requested. Edgewood College Adjunct Instructor for CHES Certified Nursing Assistant Program 2015-2016 Academic Year Promote the Nursing Assistant program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students. Participate in program evaluation and follow-up. Maintain own certifications, licenses, and participate in professional development. Qualifications, Required Knowledge and Skills: Required: Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin. Must have at least two years (4,160 hours) of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse. Must have a minimum of one year (2,080 hours) of full time experience as a Registered Nurse in a long-term care setting. Must have completed a course in teaching adults or related coursework experience. Examples of related coursework are coursework on supervising nurse aides, completing a master’s program, or completing an American Heart Association instructor training course such as CPR, ACLS, PALS, or similar. Must meet Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services (DHS) standards as a primary instructor of nurse aide training programs as defined in DHS 129.06(1a, c-g). Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means. Must have knowledge of assessment of student success. Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds. While not required, preferred candidates will also have a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or Education. Prior experience teaching adults or teaching in a nursing assistant program is ideal.
