Greeley Ave. WSP RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: • • • • Gateway/way finding signage at this key intersection. 4-Way pedestrian crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety. Provide bus shelters. Greeley Ave. WSP RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: • Creating a dynamic focal point the Town Residents will be proud of and Commuters will be drawn to. • Removing several parking spaces to provide pedestrian “bump outs” adjacent to triangle. • Raised colored pedestrian crosswalks to slow traffic and improve pedestrian safety. • Street trees and plantings to provide “inviting” atmosphere STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT Quaker Road / S. Greeley Avenue Recommend focal point at center of the triangle. Recommend bump-outs with crosswalks to triangle for Pedestrian safety. The curb extensions would be eliminated for the triangle reconfiguration as traffic circle concept STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT King Street / Greeley Avenue WSP RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: • • • • • • Gateway/way finding signage at this central intersection. Repurposing roadway “slip lane” to new pedestrian area. 4-Way pedestrian crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety. Providing information kiosk and bus shelters. Aesthetic hardscape treatment in center of intersection. Providing ornamental light bollards for aesthetics and safety. Repurposing wide roadway area to new pedestrian area. New pedestrian crosswalk to improve pedestrian safety. Community tie-in with Horace Greeley house. Providing ornamental street lighting aesthetics and safety. Full utility burial within limited zone of central Hamlet corridor. Town to cover cost of individual service replacement connections. Installing new taller poles to raise overhead utilities where not practical to relocate or bury. General feedback from residents in meetings and public forums. Discussions with Town staff of all levels. History surrounding the Town Nearby historic elements Streetscape Design Lighting STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT Existing • Approximately 47 existing streetlights within corridor. Predominantly utility polemounted. Costs • Philips Lumec - luminaires With a 17 foot pole $4,200 each HISTORIC LIGHTING OPTION • LED Light Pole • 17 foot mounting height • 70 foot spacing, alternating sides ` WSP RECOMMENDS THIS ORNAMENTAL LIGHT POLE • Taller Luminaire require less poles and on narrow streets to reduce costs 53 Lights x $4,200 = $222,600 STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT Streetscape Design 18 – Existing Standard Type (Green Benches) • in poor condition with faded color and rust • style is no longer in production 6 – Victor Stanley (some green some black) WE RECOMMEND Replacing Existing Green Benches • Costs $1,448 each ( Historic Style Option ) WE RECOMMEND Using Victor Stanley CBF-12 benches 33 benches x $1,448 = $47,784 STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENT Streetscape Design Objectives NEXT STEPS - WSP IS WORKING ON DEVELOPING : • • • • • • • • Street Trees and Tree Pits Hanging and Large Container Planters Trash Receptacles Brick Pavement Treatments Bollards Focal Elements Way finding Signs And Information Kiosks Provide complete costs.
