Neuro Occupational Therapy Services Ttgt Chris Short Brain Injury Rehab OT BSc Psychology PGDip Brain Injury Rehabilitation MSc Occupational Therapy Professionally Qualified: MSc Occupational Therapy Member of: HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) BAOT (British Association of Occupational Therapists) Current Role: Chris joined NCMUK as an Occupational Therapist in March 2015. NCMUK is a national company which provides brain injury rehabilitation services for clients around the UK. Chris works with clients and their families in the community following brain injury. He creatively assesses and implements home based occupational therapy programmes to increase clients’ independence and improve their quality of life. Chris helps to motivate and encourage people to work towards their own goals in a variety of self-care, household, community, leisure, education and work related tasks. He understands the importance of keeping the client central to the goal setting process in order to maintain their interest and motivation. Therapy programmes are evaluated using outcome measures and measurable goals. Chris works closely with other professionals to ensure that his clients receive a co-ordinated approach to their therapy programme and is able to form excellent relationships with other professionals. Chris also works closely with his clients’ Support Workers by providing regular clinical supervision to build upon their knowledge and to teach them how to support their clients’ changing needs. Career Pathway: Chris began working with those affected by brain injury in 2005 as an Outreach Worker for Headway Rotherham. Headway is a charity that works to improve life after brain injury. During his time with Headway, Chris developed a passion for working with people affected by brain injury. His role was diverse in supporting Headway members to learn about their brain injury, signposting them to relevant services such as into rehabilitation pathways, supporting them to apply for more adequate housing, securing appropriate benefits and providing advocacy in appointments with professionals. Chris’ work with Headway provided him with invaluable experience of working with people in the community following brain injury whilst also gaining an understanding of the rehabilitation process and the benefit of working within an interdisciplinary team. Whilst working for Headway, Chris completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Brain Injury Rehabilitation at Swansea University which comprised of studying neuro-behavioural models and interventions. Following this Diploma and his experience of interdisciplinary working with Occupational Therapists, Chris decided to pursue a career in occupational therapy and subsequently completed an MSc at Sheffield Hallam University in 2012. Chris went on to build key occupational therapy skills whilst working as a Brain Injury Occupational Therapist with a number of complex clients at JS Parker between 2012 and 2015 prior to joining NCMUK in early 2015.
